Coral Bay Wahooo! We found a little paradise and a well deserved rest from the 6 1/2 hour daily drives. Nice little place on the beach again, I (J) loved every minute of it and so did I(H) - 4 days sat next to the glorious Indian Ocean with excellent snorkeling right off the beach, what more could you ask for? Hannah decided that she would brave the sea waters after her last trip on the sea in Cairns and on her first trip snorkeling of the beach into the water, she saw a coral ray, turtle, baby giant clam, Gill from finding nemo and lots of big fish! Plus the coral was in such a better condition and far more colourful than what we saw on the east coast! With Hannah's confidence soaring backup, the ... read more

Zondag 19 november.

Oversized, soms toch echt heel breed.
Bordje met oesters, vers uit zee. Vooral lekkers voor Berna en Fred.

The leg to Coral Bay was a good demonstration of the deficiencies of Greyhound compared with Easyrider, with us arriving in Coral Bay at about 1AM. Elena had caught the same bus and I played her a selection of my Italo disco music, which she rubbished - a slur I won't forget in a hurry. Daniel had kindly waited up for us, though as it turned out we were in his dorm anyway hence would have woken him up regardless. He warned us that there was a drunken Canadian guy also in residence, who had had a big row with his girlfriend earlier in the evening. Sure enough, when we entered the room there was a sleepy-eyed, blank-expressioned chap sitting up in his bunk, grunting occasionally. An American girl (Lori - with a hypnotic southern accent) ... read more

Last time we chatted we were leaving Kalbarri if I recall. Thanks for the comments guys. The comment headed ‘Talks under water’ was from my EX-stepson Michael Stubbs. I did in fact have a cuppa tea and a good lie down after that last effort and hopefully all future blogs will be a bit shorter. Also in answer to Annie Gibson’s comment about my hair and the lack of product maybe I should have borrowed some from those Gibson toy boys when we were in the Barosssa? I did have a haircut the day after that photo was taken so I do look a little more stylish at the moment. Keep those comments coming. It is nice to know that someone is reading my ramblings and it is not all a waste of time. As I ... read more

We stayed in Coral Bay last night in a pretty good hostel…apparently it is really good to stay for a few days but we needed to get to Exmouth so we just stayed that night, had our BBQ which was pretty good. Then it was up really early to go snorkelling before we had to get the bus, Annelise decided bed was more appealing for her but this was my first time snorkelling so I was highly excited. Irene had no patience for my wish to stay close to the shore which worked out brilliantly as I realised how fantastic it is to be able to look at this underwater world so easily. You have to be so careful of the coral though as if you touch it you kill it plus it gives you the ... read more

Since I last wrote about Merve, the enormous Queensland Grouper fish, we have had a number of other encounters with big wildlife here. The first was a few days ago in Coral Bay. We did the manta ray trip where they send a spotter plane up and lead the boat to the mantas, and then you get to jump in and snorkel with them. The day we booked for the trip turned out to have a few minuses against it. First, there had been a coral spawning a couple of days before and the ocean's surface was a think gloopy red colour. It looked as if Jaws had had a field day! It was great for photos, until you tried to jump in to snorkel - visibility was reduced to about 2 feet!!! Second, it was ... read more

We're now in Coral Bay in the fra North West of Australia staying in a hostel called Ningaloo Reef which is bang on the beach and perfect for launching a snorkelling attack on the nearby waters. I have invested over $120 in snorkelling gear and today we have been snorkelling with Greenback and loggerhead turtles, snorkelling alongside them and watching them dive to the bottom, eat of the seabed and then surface for air - a truly amazing and memorable site. Sorry there are no pictures here of them as I don't have a digital camera that works under water - however we have bought disposable cameras and will get the pictures burnt onto cd where possible to be uploaded soon. We also snorkelled in a nearby breeding area for 2 meter reef sharks non dangerous ... read more

On the second to last day of our tour, we stopped at this placed called Coral Bay for a couple of hours. Most of the group did this glass bottom boat tour, but me and Lyndsey decided to explore this quaint little place and went on a walk on the beach. It ended up being a two hour walk and the most amazing place we had both ever seen! We didn't see a soul on our walk and it was so beautiful. Literally straight out of a travel magazine. The sand was white and the water crystal clear at the beginning and then several shades of blue as it got deeper. Absolutely perfect! Lynds and I decided then and there we had to come back. That's when the planning began..haha. We changed our flights and stayed ... read more

Well, as whale watching was cancelled this morning due to high winds (Exmouth is obviously the place for me to not do much!), time to put some photos from the Kimberley trip on line. I'm hopping on the bus to Coral Bay at lunchtime and will spend a couple of days there, before a bus ride down the coast over 3 days - arriving in Perth on Sunday evening. Looking forward to a week there - the Fremantle festival is on next weekend so that should be good.... read more
