31/10/08 Friday Day 78 Another cool little place to visit. There’s a jetty here that is the longest wooden jetty and oldest in the southern hemisphere and the second longest in the world. The longest is in South End in England. It’s a long walk to the end. And at the end is an underwater observatory. This shows all the fish and cultures that live on the pillars of the jetty underwater. The weather at last too has picked up and it’s now sunny and hot although there’s still a cool breeze hanging around. We did come here at a good time though. The Busselton Show is on. This is like a mixture of the ploughing match and puck fair. It’s got everything; tractors, cars, caravan equipment, planes, wine, chips, show jumping, palm readers, fun fair, ... read more

Hello for the final time! Well sadly our journey has reaches it's end! Soon South America will be just a blur and distant memory which is now bringing on the Post Holiday Blues. On a brighter note - I have been able to see my lovely friend Jess (LB) and Marty (Mr Hotpants - or should I say no pants at the wedding??!!) get married on the weekend. I have also finally seen my lovely cat who was so pleased to see us! And my girlfriends who I missed soo much!! Since I last wrote, we have explored Hong Kong. Whilst in Hong Kong, a typhoon was hanging around somewhere which was giving us unusually hot weather for that time of the year - almost unbearable. We endeavoured to eat Dim Sum (Yum Cha) every lunch ... read more

A cold morning so Bailey got Marg up to go for a p*ss around 5.30am. Our Chloe was sniffing under the car and something was there so she grabbed it and wouldn’t open her mouth, whatever it was it jumped. Marg couldn’t see anything in the dark but Chloe can sniff food out from any distance. We are leaving Perth today and in our stopover here we really didn’t do much here due to the weather being cold and raining, and car needing a service. We started to pack up and we had to pack up in pouring rain something that we haven’t done since leaving home back in July. Just after we coupled the van onto the car and doing a final check the rain stopped for about 10 mins. Great. We left Perth around ... read more

Extremely heavy rain woke Marg and Warwick up around 5.30 am, the Waeco was getting wet so we covered it with a plastic table clothe. So as the rain was easing off it was a good opportunity to take the dogs for a walk then back to bed. Up around 9.15am the weather is really crappy and cold so we had a cooked breakfast. Before breakfast Marg noticed that the Waeco was off so she turned it on but it was starting to defrost so it needed a clean inside. After cleaning the Waeco Warwick went for a walk to the office and we decided to increase our stay here from 2 nights to 4 nights as we are close to other attractions like Bunbury (50 k’s) and Margaret River (40 k’s). Accommodation cost $25/night. ... read more

This morning Warwick is taking the car to tyrepower for rotation and wheel alignment. While he is doing Marg is empting the wardrobe of clothes, sorting them out and ironing them. After lunch Marg was playing computer games while Warwick watched a DVD. Around 3pm we went to Midland shopping centre to get some fresh food and scripts, left the dogs at the van watching TV. When we got back Warwick to the dogs for a walk while Marg put the grocers away. For dinner we had oyster Kilpatrick with prawns’ salad meal, ... read more

We set off to do the drive around Margaret River and Augusta. The first stop was Yahava Koffee Works. When we parked the car there we walked over to the shop via a path beside a lagoon. In this large lagoon were 2 mechanical crocs that turned around where you walked along a path, 1 near the path and the other near the bridge in front of a water fall. As well as the Yahava Koffee Works (coffee factory) there was a whisky and spirits bar/display room (no sampling). Marg sampled some coffee and found them a bit bitter for her liking, but bought a bottle of coffee herb flavoured syrup, which you just add milk to using small cups. She decided to buy herself some cups, the ones she chose were thick and the sale ... read more

Wednesday 23rd July... Buselton & The Mandalay Resort - The Margaret River area Busselton is WA's Premier seaside resort town. The Resort was right by the beach (although funnily enough we didnt even go on it!). We had a chalet for each family. Ours had 2 bedrooms, kitchen and living area - with aircon/heater which immediately went on for our whole visit, so we were nice and toasty. The other major bonus was the dryer - which i ecstatically threw clothes into. Being off season the resort was very quiet which was nice really - plenty of room for the kids on the Giant Bouncing Pillow. We woke to the sound of torrential rain hounding down. A good start to the day. Somehow as you learn to do with kids, we whiled the morning away, devising ... read more

Day 224 (04.11.07) Our bus left Bunbury late morning and we made our way the short distance to Busselton. Busselton is famous for it's wooden boardwalk jetty that stretches almost 2km into the ocean. It's the longest jetty in the Southern hemisphere and is only beaten to the world title by the one in Southend-on-Sea. An amazing piece of trivia I'm sure will help you out in Trivial Pursuit one day. It was a beautiful day and having left our packs in the bus office we made our way down to another beautiful beach with the jetty as its impressive centrepiece. We walked out to the end of the jetty where we would visit the Busselton Underwater Observatory. A huge tank with windows has been sunk to the ocean floor (around 8m deep) and you're able ... read more

Apologies for not posting the final blog sooner. Since arriving in WA from Honolulu, we've been catching up with people and trying to sort out our new lives. CJ has been loving it - he's had so much attention from his new extended family, and he received his birthday and Christmas presents from last year all at once. He's been getting on really well with his cousin Lucy - it's like they've been mates all their lives. Hopefully it'll be a long time before Lucy realises CJ is 18 months younger and CJ realises Lucy is a girl. Perth has changed in lots of little ways, but overall it's still the same. On previous visits, I thought it looked so dry compared to England, but after travelling through the deserts of the US, it seems ... read more
