Home at last, well, Australia for the moment. Landed in Perth on time. Slept for nearly 7 hours and Chris for over 8 so feeling quite normal. Flight was obviously smooth as it didn't wake us up, only the steward when he asked if I wanted breakfast. Through customs then the Border Control. We declared that we had some woodwork and had been in dirty areas. Asked if our boots had been cleaned - Yes, no issues here, didn't even want to look at them. Then the wooden bits etc. Showed them what we had. Mainly interested in some woven baskets we had bought from the cultural village near he gorillas. Sorry, they are made from grass reeds and might contain seeds so either pay $100 to have them de-contaminated or give them up. OK, give ... read more

Flight was full, but no problems. Pippa slept pretty much all the way. Charlie watched a movie then after about an hour and a bit crashed for the rest of the flight. Chris C went to sleep early. I think I was out soon after. Woke up to the best sunrise I have seen. Colours were spectacular. Stephanie had woken a bit earlier so we were able to chat about the sunrise for a while. Breakfast was served as we flew over Adelaide. Finally down at Tulla with a super smooth landing. Can't fault Garudas service and pilots - both very effortless and smooth. Eventually have to wake Pippa up and change her into warmer clothes. Into terminal, through customs, bags out quickly and then quarantine. Declared wooden objects we had bought, no problems and onto ... read more

Early wake up call - 0415. We have an 0500 car booked for an 0810 flight. Last night we got a notice that there was an emergency fix required to a pipe associated with the hot water. Down between 0100 and 0400. Huh, at 0430 the water was still a tinge above tepid. Ok awake now. Meet the driver before 0500 Nd away we go. Traffic is very good at this time and we see Bangkok waking up. Interesting. Arrive at the airport in plenty of time. Express check in and our own security and customs counters - another perk. Into the lounge and we have about 1.75 hours to kill. Food and drinks then waiting, waiting. Wander down to the gate. Lots of people in wheelchairs so they get priority boarding then we get on. ... read more

Home at long last. So much nicer to go through customs and immigration in your home town. Easy pass through customs with the automated gates. Declared some stuff we bought in Budapest which the immigration said was no problems, then bags come off as I walk up to the carousel so all is good. Messages from Stephanie saying she is just arriving as well. Out we go and Stephanie is waiting. Nice to see her and we also know that Jessica and the kids are safely down as well. Out to the car and off to home. Arrive home and drag the bags inside for the last time on this trip. Phew, a breath of relief that we have survived 7 weeks of travel, our bags followed us in flight (and the buses, trains and ships) ... read more

Lost a day somewhere - bloody date line. Flight pretty good, if you consider sitting, lying, moving for 14.5 hours good. Had a feed when we got on the plane, watched a movie, then went to sleep. Much easier when you can stretch out, even better, at one stage I had my feet up on the bulkhead and was almost horizontal. Woke up and went for a walk, got some more water and snacks then back to watch another movie. Off to sleep again, then woken up with a sandwich and banana snack. More walks then more sleep, so all in all I reckon I might have had about 4 to 5 hours sleep - not bad for me on a plane. Woken up for breakfast, then we land pretty much on time. Off and into ... read more
