One of Katie’s co-workers, Danielle, escorted us to her home in the Barossa Valley. This included a stop at her family vineyard just inside the town of Lydoch. Our first stop included grape picking and taste testing right off of the vine along with wine tasting straight out of the barrel. Other wine tasting spots and travel included Grant Burge, Saltram Winery Jacobs Creek, Tanunda and Angaston. ... read more

Ben Folds puts on such an incredible live show, well worth the wait; fortunately, I did get to see most of it before feeling the effects of the mickey that was slipped into my drink. My first footy game, Adelaide Crowes vs. Pt. Adelaide Power, it is now no mystery why Aussies are obsessed with this game.... read more

The Warren Conservation park was brilliant. The park is just outside of Williamstown in South Australia. It was a well marked secluded trail that goes around a valley then to the top of a hill where a fire tower provides excellent views to the sea and to the north - brialliant. Then you descend into the gully and find some interesting rocks (like shark tooth) and an absolutely enormous spider!! I would recommend this walk to anyone - it was great. What a wild weekend we had. The IIclipsal automobile race, which is similar to the Indy 500, was taking place just near our flat. I knew the streets would be crowded but I didn’t expect the people to get so out of hand. For the sake of decency I will not share all of our weekend events and the behaviors of intoxicated Aussies but I will say that I have never seen such delinquency. A tame example includes Friday night. The three of us (Amber, Kameron and myself) were sitting in our lounge (living area) having a conversation when Amber shouts “Oh my God!” with a stricken face. I look across to our balcony and a man is standing outside our wide open screen door staring in at us. This happened at 8 p.m. on the ... read more

So...I arrived at the Thebarton Theatre not sure what to expect and found a treasure of a venue only a ten minute bus ride from my flat. The theatre was built in 1926 and regardless of many years of renovation, I could picture early Aussie theatre goers and high society piling into the place for a big night on the town. The place actually really reminded me of The El Rey in L.A. Opening for Gomez was Paul Dempsey, the lead singer of Something For Kate, a Melbourne band I have yet to give a listen to. I only caught a few of Dempsey's tunes but was very impressed with him. Perceptive lyrical twists, aching vocals, a dirty guitar backed by a masculine melody, mmm. I will be keeping an eye out for a solo album and/or ... read more
