Now this was the dark horse. Neither of us knew what to expect from this city, but we were both pleasantly surprised. Enough to say we stayed here for 9 nights!!! The weather was fantastic, along with the caravan park, and the 2 nearby villages/towns, which were very popular. Lots of lovely food and drink were consumed....to the point we had to remind ourself that we are on a budget as backpackers. It didn't stop and spoil Lorraines choice of Fillet Steak off the menu, rinsed down with 3 bottles of lovely Barossa Valley Chardonays (the Valleys werew 15 mins away) :) Not the stereotype backpackers I have to say!! None-the-less, a thoroughly enjoyable stay!!!... read more

Rental car agents looked at us like we were going to a distant planet when we told them that we wanted to go to Coober Pedy. Many Australians never venture into the Outback. We don't quite understand why, it is such a unique place. So, with extra water, food, good maps, and a full tank of petrol we were off to the Outback!! This road trip truly was a journey into the secret, the weird, the amazing, and back to the urban. In 6 short days we saw an incredible variety of landscape, wildlife, and culture. The Secret: Our first night on the road was spent in the town of Woomera. This town did not exist on any Australian map until the late 1980s. The town existed; it was just a big secret because it was ... read more

... read more

Introduction This bushwalk was in Onkaparinga Conservation Park on the southern side of Adelaide. It is a tough walking park as the river, over millions of years, has caused the valley to have very steep sides. There is often water here, even in the height of summer, which makes for good animal and bird spotting. So this park is one to visit with older children and only with appropriate footwear. We have visited this park a few times and it ranks high on Peter's favourite parks, but this particular walk was new to us. How to get there... From South road, heading South, take the expressway as far as Honey Pot road. Using a street directory, make your way East to Penney's Hill Road, then Upper Penney's Hill Road, which terminates on Piggott Range Road. The ... read more

Was wondering why we hadn't heard any feedback from my Swan Hill epistle and have found that I had saved it but not publised it to the web! Silly old Aunty Jo. As I have said before we are still learning to do this. I had wanted to add some more photos but it is so slow to download I lose patience. There must be an easier way and I will find it. Anyway we have had the most marvellous few days. After leaving Pinaroo we drove to Bordertown in SA losing all our fruit and vegies at the border. Happened on the way to Deniliquin also so now we will be watching borders carefully. Bordertown on the Dukes Hwy is very pretty and had a good chat to the lady at the tourist info. She ... read more

Hi folks. we have been in Adelaide for nearly a week now and we are, surprise, surprise, having a wonderful time. Just to get the Adelaide jokes out of the way; we arrived on 'Adelaide' flight; and 'Adelaide' odds against that happenning! Sorry. We spent the first couple of days getting our bearings - not too difficult in this wonderful city which is very compact and built on the American block system - and also looking for better, cheaper accommodation. This we did, finding a motel that reduced their rates to twenty quid a night when we asked for a discount if we stayed for seven days. We went to the beautiful beach suburb of Glenelg on Wednesday. We liked it so much we found yet another motel and booked in for the following week for ... read more

I arrived at the offices of Wayward Tours in Adelaide as a veteran. Having spent a whole 14 hours in South Australia's state capital it was time to acquaint myself with my latest group of 'rent-a-friends' and hit the road in the direction of the country's Red Centre. Some 8 hours previously, I'd been saying goodbye to the Great Ocean Road gang and truth be told I longed for their company as I couldn't be arsed with the rigmarole of having to go through the motions with this latest bunch of companions. Thankfully, however, that lazy attitude was soon quashed: I'm not sure if the phrase 'sausage-fest' has an opposite but there was a helluva lot more burds than lads and if for this shallow reason only, I headed north like one excited wee puppy. I ... read more
