Also so ging es also am 12. Februar los nach Adelaide, um die Deutsche Tourgruppe, meine Mutter und Freund Harald und meinen guten alten Bekannten Andre (sorry hier gibt's auch kein Strich fuers e) zu treffen. ... read more

Drove early towards hills to the east. Couldn't get the view of Adelaide I knew was there. Two cyclists Went ahead and positioned themselves at intersections to wave me in the right direction. Got to top. Great aerial view of the whole urban area. It was 700 meters high and 13 degrees. Clouds low. Cyclists arrived. Rain eventually came. Went down to city plain and warmth. Found City Markets I had heard about. Bustling. Good sticker interest. Whole thing felt like Istanbul bazaar. Radio interview set for Monday 8:30 AM Radio Adelaide. Got email from Advertiser journo but no interview for story.... read more

Weather cool and partly cloudy. Sailed on 50 footer last night at CYCSA. Very nice. Spruiked today. Still no call from journo from "Advertiser". Did meet a guy from Adelaide radio who says he'll call tomorrow to set up interview. Don't want to leave Adelaide without media moment. Tomorrow St Patricks Day so there there should be a lot of republicans about. Looking like departure for Melbourne on Sunday.... read more

Hi everyone, Well here we are on the Eyre Peninsula at last. Have heard so much about this part of SA and it has been pretty good. After leaving the Barossa, we drove straight to a little place called Melrose in the foothills of the Flinders Ranges. The caravan park was delighful and right at the base of Mt Remarkable. Didn't do the climb because of time constraints - thats my excuse anyway. Rob had recommended we stay here and it was no further than following the beaten track and going to Port Pirie. Had a family of wallabies visit us as we were having sunset drinks. They were so tame the male walked straight between me and the table and even trod on my foot in his effort to find something yummee to eat. Next ... read more

Went to "Advertiser" to try for story. Called from front desk but not interested. Thought that strange for newspaper. Stood out front. Flurry of interest from journos. One wrote for "The Australian" Weekend Magazine! That's the top of the food chain. He had his photographer take some shots. Gave him my mobile number. The other journo wrote for the "Tizer". Otherwise the day was warm and sunny. Wandered streets. Still disoriented in new town. Its a pleasant place old Adelaide. Not booming like Perth. I can't help but think of those vast open spaces of the Nullarbor. Then here this busy little spot amid arid open spaces, a world of humans buzzing in their nest. Also got email from Albany WA "Albany Advertiser" saying she had done the story. Unfortunately I couldn't get the article but ... read more

The Clare and Barossa Valleys Quirky Facts No 5! If fatalities are used as an indicator, the deadliest animal in Australia, apart from the human, is the horse: in one year an average of 21 people die in riding-related accidents. The deadliest venomous animal is the introduced honeybee, responsible for up to 10 deaths a year. The deadliest snake (though not the most venomous) in Oz is the Brown Snake, believed to be responsible for 22 out of the 38 snake-bite fatalities recorded over the last 25 years. Male snakes (and lizards) have two penises which are stored, inside out, within sheaths at the base of the tail. Only one, usually the one on the appropriate side, is used at a time. Each species has a different design, with various ornaments, spines and hooks, the ... read more
