We left Magnetic Island yesterday after a great few days. We went kayaking in the sea which was ok - hard work and we gave in after 30 mins, but it was good to have a go at it. The last night was fun - everyone was there - including Michelle and Aaron who we knew from Sydney, Karen and Martain from Innisfail, and Tom and Pat, who Simone knew. The night was based around drinking, including lots of drinking games (Slap and some random card game) which ended up with most people taking clothes off for forfeits - luckily I kept wandering off to have a cigarette, so I never lost a round! Who says smoking doesn't pay?! Everyone was so drunk - I was merrily tipsy - that they all suffered severe hangovers the ... read more

Hello everyone, it's been a while since we have updated the blog because we have just been so busy. We are now in Oz but have to finish off our NZ story before we give you the update about here. We teased you a little with our adrenaline junkie story and it's safe to say I think sky diving is about as adrenaline packed as it gets. I bet most of you thought you would never read anything saying I went sky diving but I have the photos and dvd to prove it. Queenstown is the adventure capital of the world and if you are going to do anything mad this is the place to do it. If they haven't thought of it here it isn't worth doing. On our first morning we woke up to ... read more

606km The Long Way Round: Eight Flights, 21000km, Nine Days, and One Wedding Later Hi Matthew, you are cordially not invited to the wedding of your mum and dad. Saturday 27th October. Well, I certainly wasn't expecting that email from my dad, and it certainly made things complicated given that I received the news on the 18th. That gave me exactly nine days to. . . well, what can you do in nine days? After five minutes Marjie noticed that I was blankly staring at my computer screen with an expression of dumbfounded stupidity gracing my face and she promptly pulled me out of my trance. After explaining the email to her I tried to make a decision: should I fly home for the occasion. Of course I wanted to be there for my dad, but ... read more

Well we left Mission Beach a bit sad as it was a lovely place and we were just getting used to relaxing and sitting still!! Next stop Townsville and the nearby Magnetic Island. Townsville itself doesn't have a lot to it apart from the Reef HQ and a nice sea frontage. The Reef HQ was very interesting and it gave us chance to learn a little bit more about the reef and how it is affected by so many things. They even gave a very informative talk done by a diver inside the tank with the Sharks!! We were lucky to visit on a Saturday when they feed the predator tank! Watching Reef sharks, Giant Trevally, Rays, a Tawny Nurse Shark and even a turtle tucking into there food still wasn't enough to put us off ... read more

The sunshine is back again and rather pleasant it is too. Caught up with the boring household bits this morning (washing etc) and then drove out to look at the Ross River Dam. Discovered it is currently being modified and there is no access so only managed to see the spillway and wall. ... read more

This week we started our trip down the East Coast. This started in Cairns after spending half the day at Brisbane airport. It was here we heard a plane had almost been struck by lightening..not what you want to hear just before getting on one! Added to that it was raining, although it's not quite what we Welsh would call rain, bit like spitting really! Anyway, we arrived in Cairns slightly moody after our plane was delayed for an hour, during which time we were sitting on the plane with no refreshments! Fi was going mad and getting slightly stroppy about the lack of peanuts being handed out much to Jon's amusement! But they gave us a 'free' alcoholic drink to say sorry - we thought they were free anyway! We arrived at our new hostel ... read more
