Keith took us around Surfers Paradise on Friday 8th to scout out possibly hostels for the weekend/ following week. This was primarily for the other three, due to the fact that I was going to spend the weekend with my family. After a long walk up and down the beach in the sunshine, observing all of the expensive apartments, we were treated to lunch, then we headed back to Mudgeeraba for our last night. Alex, Jonny and Zach booked Surfers Paradise Resort Hostel for Saturday and Sunday night. I woke up late on Saturday morning and the others had already been taken to the hostel, so I quickly packed up the rest of my clothes and helped pack up the car for the weekend. Taking rather a long time dismantling a stubborn cot for baby Blake, ... read more

For the first time in our trip, the group lost a member for a few days. Oli was invited to stay with his family as they went to a holiday home further down the coast. Sensibly, he took up the offer of luxury living for another few days. Myself, Zach and Alex were thrown back into the harsh reality of backpacking on Saturday 9th April. We booked ourselves into a hostel on the outskirts of Surfers Paradise. The staff were mainly English, sadly they were Northern and very loud! They bullied us into a club crawl that night and we dragged ourselves along after paying for tickets. To be brutally honest, none of us were in the mood and we went along for the free drinks. It was a pretty bad night out and we ended ... read more

After leaving Brisbane it was time to head down to the Gold Coast to meet up with our ‘travellers in crime’ Claire and James, we were both really excited about catching up with them and seeing the famous Gold Coast! We all met up in the plush surroundings of Surfers Paradise, Claire and James rocking up in their green camper or Sid as they like to call him. We decided to do what you should do on the Gold Coast - head to the beach! This was the first part of Australia where it was safe for us to go into the sea, so safe in the knowledge that no croc or stingray was about to take our life Paul dived in to enjoy the crazy waves. The Gold Coast waves are rapid and non-stop so ... read more

Today I sit on my balcony and watch the surf. The only thing that could make this any better is if you could see the sky. Here Iam 2 blocks from a beautiful beach and great surf and it hasnt stopped raining for over 5 days. Its quite a tragety. BUT..im am still so very happy to Finally have somewhere comfortable to stay and not have to stay in dirty, crowded, loud hostels. I have a room to myself, with and oceanview balcony, a washing machine and my very own closet! (funny how you miss the simple things) also I have FREE internet and a surfboard. PEEERRRRFEEECCT. Was waiting for the rain to stop, but decided to go out surfing today (im going to get wet anyhow) and it was so nice to be out in ... read more

So today we start the return journey back down the East Coast but not to quickly!! First port of call was Wet & Wild. Lets just say it was very very wet and I'm a little unsure on the wild part. Maybe they should change its name to Wet and Cold!! The sun was shining for most of the day but the wind made it feel all a little bit fresh! I now find it hard to believe that I LOVED these places when I was a kid and now well I don't!! We had fun on the slides and were in the park for a good few hours. They have got some massive slides there but Mum and I saw to many friction burns and we chickened out of them. What made it for me ... read more

Louise's Section Yay, it's me that gets to write first again and I have had some beer and now onto the vino so sorry if this makes no sense. We have now made it to Coolangatta (South Gold Coast). It's hot and there are beaches everywhere. I am continuously strolling along beaches and collecting shells and stones like a small child ready to make a nice bathroom decoration on my arrival home. Even Chris has started taking part and enjoying finding 'the special shell'. As much as I am liking the Gold Coast since arriving this morning I am not so impressed with the huge amount of mahusive cockroaches in the amenities block near our van. I think someone has tried to kill them as there are loads of dead ones but ewwwwww!!! Needless to stay ... read more

Hi all, Had a great few days rest in Surfers Paradise over the past couple of days staying in our luxury hotel (seeing as we are the worst backpackers in the world!) In fact, we've not really got much news as we've not really done anything! We got here on Tuesday morning after a horrible train journey through the night and then a short Greyhound coach trip to Surfers, and headed straight for the beach. Explored the area and the hotel, and went for a nice dip in the hotel pool and the hot tub before a game of tennis. On Wednesday we headed for the beach again, had a swim in the 8ft waves, it was great fun but James didn't appreciate them nearly drowning him! Next up was the surf lesson - James sat ... read more
