Bonne Fete Mimi!! Tous en coeur, on chante : Bonne Fete a moi.... Bonne Fete a moi..... Bonne fete Bonne fete... Bonne Fete a moi !!!

We awoke to almost brilliant sunshine! WOOHOO!! The sun at last!! We checked out of the hostel and had a wander down the road to chinatown where there was a huge market that I'd been told I'd be able to find someone to unblopck my mobile at last. After a bit of a chase around here there and everywhere I did managed to find a guy who'd do it for me - yay! We then went out to enjoy Sydney while the sun was shining!! We went staright back to where Joe had showed us the day befoer, Circular Quays, where you catch the ferries and where the harbour bridge and opera house can be seen. We decided to first attempt to walk up to the top of the bridge to have a look out over ... read more

We flew back to Sydney on the 26th July to our new home in Newtown. Our house mates are fantastic. There's Flick who is a proper country Aussie girl! She's studying Physio and Sydney uni and plays rugby and cricket for them also. And Amanda who is from New York and out here for about a year to some more traveling before completing her masters in English Lit. Chris just loves the fact that the house is always filled with women! Its really strange that after so long of living out of a rucksack we have our own room yaaay! Chris has a really good temping job that he's enjoying in the City. I've been working for Amnesty International fundraising for the last few weeks all over Sydney and beyond but i'm now looking for a ... read more

We parked in Gladstone St opposite the Craigo Mills home to the Omeo dance studio started by Roslyn Crisp. We were after the best Turkish pizza in Sydney at Saray on Enmore Rd. “I thought she looked like spastic puppet pulling her own strings or like she was doing some kind of epileptic tai chi.” Brett searched for words to express how he hated Ros’ performance in a kind of conversational way. He knew that Paul was on his side as the beer was passed his way. “I don’t class that as dance, it was more like mime. I think of dance as having some sort of grace, but that was just ugly.” Though my response to Danse (1) was different, I could not disagree with the descriptions of Paul and Brett. I first came ... read more

In three days we will be leaving for our big adventure. We have left so many wonderful things behind- our first home together, fantastic jobs, very dear friends and most beloved families. We will miss them all so very much, as well as this beautiful city where we have always had everything at our fingertips. The culmination of years of daydreaming, saving and scheming begins in three days, when we will get onto a Qantas jet and start our long-awaited world trip. If all goes to plan we will try to record some of our experiences here, with the intention of keeping in touch with absent friends, and of producing a record of our trip that we can print out and keep for a very long time. ... read more

- I was back at work on boxing day(but on 2.5x pay, i wasn't complaining...much) and the next big thing to happen was of course New Years Eve. After much research, planning and conversations with all parties involved, I managed to find a place we could watch the fireworks that accomadted everyone's varying needs. Was feeling a little nervous on the day in case everyone thought it was pants when we got there but was happy to get the thumbs up from everyone. We arrived over on the north shore at about 4pm with our picnics and plenty of alcohol and found ourselves a spot with a pretty good view and a fair bit of space. The theme for the celebrations this year was 'Diamond in an emerald city' because they were celebrating 75 years of ... read more

Ok, I'll continue with the list of exciting and memorable things cos I have a fair bit to catch up on(I know, i'm slapping my wrist as i type)! -Shanna and I ventured off to the Hunter Valley for the day to check the validity of the claims that their wines were top notch (as you should all be aware, we would be connoiseurs by now if it was measured on consumption!).Some of Shanna's uni friends came along too as well as two other english girls and we all had a great time. It was a pretty similar story to the Barossa Valley - 4 vineyards and several wines at each.We decided to buy ourselves a bottle of bubbly at one to share on xmas day. We were also supposed to visit a cheese factory but ... read more

My first week in Sydney I was kept busy organising my new job, accomadation etc as well as doing some sight seeing on the rare occasions that it wasn't pouring down. The weather really does make a huge difference to people's moods and everyone in the hostel seemed permanently glum but the sun refused to shine. On the up side I managed to find the vets I was going to be working at and felt pretty confident after the few hours I spent there looking round etc that I wouldn't have a problem fitting in and was looking forward to getting stuck in to some more nursing. I also mangaed to solve the slight problem of being homeless at the end of the following week and got myself a room in a shared backpackers house. It ... read more

Melbourne Cup. We backed Geordieland. A french horse, and Frankie Dettori no less in the saddle. At 15/1 (we think - auzzie bookies have a different system to us) he was a longshot. We didn't see him finish. But being a national holiday and all, we did manage to sink a few schooners. We are in a new hostel in Southern Sydney. For a week. They have got Uno. And Scrabble. So it is good. We are in seperate dorms, to save up some dollar. Went to Bondi Beach today. Massive surfer beach, and cos it is not quite summer it was quiet. Got picsbut no USB port here, so no picstoday.Sorry. Possibly staying there next week. Otherwise we might do a relocation deal, where you pay a dollar a day for a campervan. Our friend ... read more

Warning: Boring update. Mostly only of interest to our parents and Laurel. Feel free to skip. I don't have much to update with today. We got up and headed straight to Bondi Beach, which is the same beach we went to on Thursday. It was INSANELY hot!!! And insanely busy. The occasions where I have witnessed so many people together in one place have been few and far between. All I can say is I'm glad I'm not a Bondi Beach lifeguard. There's quite the history to the Bondi Beach Lifesavers, actually. I think they might have been the first lifeguarding club in the world or something. It's a constant struggle for them to keep the swimmers and the surfers separated, happy, and safe but they do a pretty good job. You're supposed to stay between ... read more
