On Wednesday Gavin and Lynda's brother Greg took one car and Lynda and I went in hers to her brother-in-laws funeral in Nowra which is northeast of Albury closer to the coast. It was a 5 hour drive thru some incredibly beautiful country. Lynda and I went separately so that we could go on from there to visit more friends and family that she wanted me to meet and also to show me more of this beautful area. As much as I have traveled to different countries it still amazes me how much the landscapes resemble areas in our country. Lynda's aunt lives very close to the beach in Kianga and has a spectacular view. Because of the awful storms that Australia has been having we haven't even got to get our feet wet at the ... read more

Well the camera I was loaned, went on the fritz on the way to Newcastle. We took it to a camera shop and the sensor is gone so it won't take pictures. The camera man said they had some recalls on these so it is probably under warranty and that it will have to be sent to the factory for warranty which could be 6 to 8 weeks. Lynda took pictures with her phone and Gavin hasn't had the time to see if we can get them on the blog.soooooooooo On the way to Newcastle I was very surprised to see a full sized submarine in a park along the road. Many of the men who served aboard her were from that little town and when they found out it was to be decommissioned they bought ... read more

WE are off to Newcastle so that I get to see more country as well as meet friends of Lynda's that can't make it to her party. We will be gone for 2 days and hopefully I will have some good pictures to show you of what I have seen and also of Lynda so you will know who I am talking about. The weather is great because there has been no humidity. As we go to Newcastle it will be a little cooler and we might see some light showers. Newcastle is on the coast so we will be able to go to the beach.... read more

We ( Lynda, Gavin and I) welcomed the new year in with a party with their friends from their airplane club. They were very friendly and fun. We watched the city fireworks from their front veranda. Each area of the city had a display and we could see 3 of them. WE srarted in the house so we could see the ones from Sydney on the TV. Yesterday, Lynda and I drove around the area and she showed me the areas around the 3 community centers that she manages. Then we drove out to a community called Beechworth that has been preserved as it was established in the early 1800's. It is very reminescent of some of the old communities like Capistrano in California. The buildings are of stucco. Instead of curbing and gutters along the ... read more

HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM AUSTRALIA I arrived in Albury at 11:30 on 12/30 after losing a day crossing the International Date line. The trip was uneventful in the sense it went without a hitch. Albury is roughly 19 hours ahead of us in the Pacific time zonei I had some very nice seat mates, one from London and one from southern Idaho. The one from London sat next to me in the waiting area and I didn't talk to him as I was visiting with a couple from Minnesota who after I got my seat assignment were sitting across the aisle from me, they were headed for Christchurch, New Zealand to visit there son who lives there. I am so glad I don't have to travel half way round the world to wisit my only son ... read more

Sunday morning came and we had decided it was time to get on the road although it would be easy to stay longer in such a wonderful spot. We took our time getting everything ready, there’s quite a lot of preparation to be done - everything has to be found a secure home so it won’t escape when we’re travelling along. The roof has to go down, the electric cable disconnected and put away and the car hitched up correctly including the electrics for the lights, indicators etc. Graham has a pretty good sense of how he should reverse the car up to the caravan but I needed to guide him a bit which I just about managed OK(!). Come 11.30 and we were all ready. We said our goodbyes to the fantastic Reeves family and ... read more

The trouble with packing isn't what to pack and what to leave behind. Its not forgetting your toothbrush or some other important item. Neither is it not being able to take what you want, such as your favorite jacket or your boyfriend. For me particularly as a first time traveler the trouble with packing is that you are forced to face the coming reality. The fears, doubts and insecurities in traveling across the world and being lonely hit you head on as you place your possessions in your rucksack. And its scary. And its exhilarating. And its very nerve racking. But as my good friend says, "be nervous excited, not nervous scared." The best things comes from these emotions. So i have 3 days to go and i have decided to pack my toiletry bag ... read more

Merry Christmas to everyone who reads this and a Happy New Year. My Christmas is being spent with my family in Australia in my home town of Albury. Nothing much has changed over the years, except that it may get busier and busier. Joy. Christmas brings a lot of memories of Christmases in the past with traditions that go on. Christmas morning always starts with the opening of gifts we have for each other. Always enjoyable. We always have lunch with family and friends of the family and for dinner we get together with the extended family and celebrate with a lovely meal out in the backyard. Boxing Day is spent resting from Christmas and eating left over food while watching the Boxing Day Cricket Test Match. Enjoy your Christmas and be safe...... read more
