The last blog I left was last Tuesday so we have had a week of things to update you on. On the Tuesday night following surfing me and Alison went to a local pizzaria for tea. We shared a pizza between us which was nice and then headed over to the sports bar to meet the rest of the group. Everyone had some sort of sunburn from the surf trip either arms, feet or face. We had a good night where all of the group got to know each other before Matt got thrown out by the bouncers for having one too many!! On the Wednesday OzIntro re-arranged the jet boating trip for us so we were up bright and early for that. First of all though we met in the office to receive our bank ... read more

Thursday 31/1/2008. Decided to stop messin' around and head-off. Left Newcastle at 16:45. Headed south under the Harbour. South of Sydney the rain started, we set-up camp in the rain near Currarong. Beautiful spot. Friday, into Honeymoon Bay near Point Perpendicular on Jervis Bay - more rain. Put the boat in and fished, tried out the new boat wheels. Sunday arvo, headed up the Shoalhaven River to Grady's Riverside Retreat. Only two other campers there. Rained all night. Monday, put the raincoats on and boated on the river. Rained all day. Tuesady, packed-up in pouring rain. Headed off towards Nowra past rock falls and along flooded roads. Could not find a way back to Nowra that was not flooded. Found the SES who told us of a detour back to the highway. Wow, talk about high ... read more

We have finally made it back to Australia but not without a few last minute hiccoughs which I will fill you in with later. I do plan on finishing our African adventure with all of you as well but as internet access has been very limited lately, (easier to get an internet in Tamale than in Aus!!!!) it will have to wait just a little longer. since leaving Africa on the 8th December we have had a very memorable week in Dubai and a few weeks here in Australia trying to feel a little Christmassy while catching up with my not insignificant family and doing vast bits of travelling. Our arrival to Adelaide was glorious, the sun was shining, we were all really excited and it was hard to believe that I was touching Aussie soil ... read more

Dec 7. Left Canberra subdued. Thought I would get something. Spruiked Woden. Good response. Dry country to Cooma. Sheep bare hills. Good response. Very hot. Headed to Jindabyne. Ultra modern. Good response. Newspaper story due! Next week. Interview interesting. Gave stock answers. She asked for more. 'Sublimely expressive of who we are'. Will she print it? Big lake snowy scheme. Dec 8. Hazy sunrise. Victoria's burning. $16 park entry. Roadkill big wombat. I stopped to look. Dragged off road. The high country. Beautiful when you finally get there. Charlotte Pass 1835 meters. Flies like before the dung beetle. Severe nuisance. Dusty rocky track. Got a lift with rangers. Lots of crows. Attack flies. Circular 800+ meters to top. Fresh breezes. Walked half way back then another ride with with rangers. Sticker strike rate walkers/rangers 70%!! Dry ... read more

We set off down to melbourne yesterday, and have stopped off in Albury to break up the journey. Yet again, there is bugger all here - such a waste of time. We are trying to plan our time between melbourne and adelaide, and our crappy bus ticket takes us literally to melbourne and that is it before adelaide. We really want to go and explore the great ocean road, but as we have no transport and no money to hire a car or a van, looks like we will have to miss out on it. So, today, we are looking around some shops and then maybe go to the park. nothing to report. Some photos of Canberra yesterday amanda and Chris... read more

...December 26th continued... Driving, out the corner of my eyes, the salvation jane on the roadside blurs into a lush lavender hue, a peripheral expressionist painting. Brown Mountain (a truck coupling bay) Fog, mist, feeling the miniature rain drops on the car’s side. Struggling to see and steer around the wet windy roads, I'm slowing to less than 40km/hour and at only 9pm I need to stop for the night. the fog so thick tis hard to see anything other than immediately before the headlights. But eventually I find myself in a truck coupling bay, better safe than sorry I say. With many protective concerns and cautionary do’s & don’ts, I’m somewhat disconcerted when a car also pulls into the bay right behind me, sits for a while, open the doors and gets out, thereby becoming ... read more
