The conversation as we are heading to arrivals at the Salt Lake City Airport goes like this... Me: "Did you send the family a photo of us?" Him: "No" Me: "hmmmm" Me: "Do you know what they look like?" Him: "No" Me: "hmmmm" Me:"How are the gonna find us? I hope they have a sign" Well we didn't have to worry about that one, coming down the escalators we see a lovely looking couple smiling at us. "You look just like your dad" They say to my husband. So after 30 years some people still have good memories..... Well you can't escape those genes unfortunately... (or in our case) fortunately - as we were easy to spot in the small crowd at the Airport. Maybe we just don't look American? Wonder if they said "Yeah... those ... read more

Day 5! Last day in Toronto! We spent it going to the zoo, which was actually a long bus ride out there. At least we saw polar bears! Later on we went out and had a night in the town with Dan and Dee, our hostel mates. We stayed up pretty late. I take an early flight out to New York City early in the morning while Tony will stay in Toronto a day by himself and then fly home. It’s been fun thus far!... read more

As we are heading off to the internet café to post this entry we received news of the terrible bombings in London. This is really disturbing news. We hope that you and all your loved ones are safe and unhurt. We also hear that the Olympics has been awarded to London, well done on that! Picking off from where we last left you, we met Carl’s parents in Anchorage, they had been to see the big trees in Yosemite California. The next morning we started with a good breakfast at Gwenie’s Great Alaskan Restaurant where they serve Reindeer sausage, grits, biscuits and coffee comes by the thermos. We were then all picked up by Great Alaskan Holidays in their red van to go and get what would be our mobile home for the next 12 days. Before ... read more

You can never step into the same river twice, for new waters are always flowing on to you.----------Heraclitus. July 7, 2005, Thursday. This is a driving day, and our first connect spot was Haines Junction, then on to Kluane. Again we got stuck on a dirt road at Destruction Bay. The water is a magnificent blue/green color, it has something to do with the crushed shells and the way the colors are absorbed by the sun, but it is beautiful. We took a couple of pictures as we waited for the “pilot car” to lead us through the construction area. Destruction Bay is one of several towns that grew out of the building of the Alaska Highway. It earned it name when a storm destroyed buildings and materials here. The Kluane Museum of Natural History ... read more

Location: Corry PAs Day one of the new week. We made a few mistakes, as prophesized. Including-but not limited to: Forgetting to cast a young Mowgli, forgetting to take down the names of our leads, forgetting to change Friday’s rehearsal time in the parent letter. But then you try and audition 61 kids, with one other person, on your second week out, for a show that you have week to put on and just see if you don’t forget a few things. All in all for our first week out by ourselves (last week we had a trainer who saved our lives) it went pretty well. We are currently n Corry, PA- a town on the smaller side (pop: ~6,000) about 30ish miles from Erie. It is a pre-registered event, so only 60 (well 61) kids ... read more

More on that title later. The Tillamook area seems almost out of place. The smell of cow manure hangs in the air...not enough for it to be a problem, but enough to make you think you're in Iowa. Given that Tillamook's claim to fame is their cheese, and you need milk to make cheese, and you need cows to make milk, and one of the byproducts of cows is manure, it all makes sense. We at breakfast in the room. We brought cereal and milk for those mornings where we werent' staying in a place that had complimentary breakfast. After that we headed to the nearby Tillamook Cheese Factory. If our kids could live on one food, it would be cheese, so there was no way we'd skip this place. The visitor center was really nice. ... read more
