Can’t believe this is the last stop on our river cruise. Mind you we have been on the American Queen for three weeks now. Tomorrow, Sunday is a cruise day all the way back to Cincinnati. It will also be a washing and packing day as luggage have to be outside our cabin door at 11pm. An interesting stop was at Marshall University to have a look in their archives, old photos of steamboats, early days on the river, the Civil War and the Underground Railroad as well as the real railroad. Unusually, the archivist played rugby and was a huge fan of the All Blacks. She even went to see them play in Chicago a few years ago. We made the most of our last day just enjoying the river as it went by or ... read more

We were under the outer bands of a storm and it was a familiar feeling, having been through more than our share of hurricanes over the past 20 years. We drove through a number of rain bands on our trip across Alabama and Mississippi and into Louisiana, but by the time we got to Lafayette, the skies began to clear and the rest of the day was partly sunny. We spent a night in Houston after leaving Belize, then continued on to Colorado (Glen has gone bsck to where he lives on the west side of Canada). Our Colorado stop is mainly about visiting with Angela and her kids. They used to live in Roatan, and we've known them about 14 years. It was so great to have a few days to hang out together. We did a bit of shopping, went to the drive-in, and visited a little mountain town called Estes. Her parents had her over one night (they also used to live in Roatan and still own their place down there). It was a great visit with Ang and her family, hoping they come to see us in Canada sometime this yesr.... read more
