Today we said our fond farewells to the beautiful city of Boston; we have seen and done so much and we are very sad to be moving on, but as the saying goes, 'Time waits for no Man' and we have an itinerary to follow! But as the Bee Gees sang in their massive number one of 1968, 'I feel I'm going back to Massachusetts' and hopefully we might well do some day. Before we leave, Steve and I had an important task to perform, namely to pick up our rental car from the airport. When we originally booked the car (through Rental Cars.Com), we could have collected the vehicle from downtown, but for some reason the price was significantly higher, so we went for an airport pick up and even doing so a few days ... read more

On my last trip to New York City, Carnegie Hall was closed for renovation. Carnegie is one of those places that belong on a Water Pail List, along with Royal Albert Hall (London), the Mariinsky Hall (St. Petersburg), and Red Rocks (Denver) for great music venues. The name Carnegie should ring a bell with you. Industrialist Andrew Carnegie built this venue, which soon became one of the most prestigious venues for classical and popular music in the world. Carnegie Hall was opened back in 1891, at 57th Street, and Seventh Avenue. It contains three performance venues: Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage, Zankel Hall, and Weill Recital Hall. The attached Rose Museum contains many musical artifacts. So, how does one find Carnegie Hall? Perhaps this joke tells all. The famous Jasha Heifitz was stopped on a New York street, ... read more

Here it is, the middle of September, a year since we left Lynden with an RV in tow, and I haven’t posted anything here since May, just after we finished becoming Texas residents. It’s time to get back and catch up to the story. Since leaving Livingston, Texas, we’ve visited friends and toured all over, with stops in Austin and Fort Worth, Texas, Colbert, Durant, and McAlester, Oklahoma, Joplin, Branson, and St Charles, Missouri, Santa Claus and Florence, Indiana, Knoxville, Tennessee, and Toccoa and Augusta, Georgia. Then, because we plan to spend winter back in Yuma, we started back west, with a stop in Greenville, South Carolina because that’s an area we’ve considered as a possibility for the day we decide to stop being full time in the RV. We continued westward through Knoxville again and ... read more

After a busy morning of last minute chores we left the lake and headed down to Salem, NH to pick up our Euros. All was uneventful until be reached the airport. While going through security Diane was pulled over and asked to take her shoes off so that they could be put through the x ray machine. Evidentially she looked like a possible shoe bomber. We then proceeded to our gate which felt like four miles away. We then realized that there were no places to eat in this section of the new terminal. After much walking back and forth we decided to order sandwiches which they delivered. $50.00 for two sandwiches seemed a little excessive, but when you’re hungry, your hungry. After devouring our sandwiches we headed to the restrooms. As I was hovering over ... read more

Today’s objective was to drive to our condo in Newport, Rhode Island. After breakfast, at a cute place called the Speckled Hen, we headed out to a Bakery that was known for their Whoopie pies. Terry and I both love Whoopie pies and didn’t think we should leave what is known as the home of the Whoopie pie without taking some with us. The story is that the kids and dads were so excited when they found the tasty cakes in their lunches that they shouted “WHOOPIE!” I had read the best Whoopie pie place was in the Bird in hand, baker and Café. I must admit, I was a little disappointed in their bakery. While they had plenty of Whoopie pies and shoofly pie, They had very little other baked goods. However, the Whoopie pies ... read more

From TravelAwaits: Anyone who’s been or dreams of going to the Big Apple is probably after at least one New York-style slice. New Yorkers Sue Davies and Regina Ang recommend the jumbo slices from Koronet in Manhattan and say “You can’t go wrong on Arthur Avenue” — aka Little Italy — in the Bronx. I had the best pizza of my life (served alongside a double-shot) at San Matteo Pizza & Espresso Bar on 2nd Avenue in Manhattan across the street from quaint Rupert Park. Of course, New York’s delis are just as famous as its pizza joints. You’ve probably heard of Katz’s, and if you’re up for the line, go for it. Davies and Ang also recommend Baz Bagels in Manhattan’s Little ... read more

From the 70s, I enjoyed the light, happy music of Neil Diamond. I have seen grown men dance like crazed teenagers in the aisles of his concerts. I have seen people who never sing, sing at the top of their lungs when "Sweet Caroline" is performed. We are in NYC to see the Broadway production of A Beautiful Noise: The story of the legendary Neil Diamond comes to life on stage in an uplifting new musical featuring all his hit songs, including “Sweet Caroline,” “America,” and “Cracklin’ Rosie.” From those exhilarating early days in New York to the sold-out spectacles that defined his career, A Beautiful Noise explores the life of a rock icon through the music that made him “a national treasure” (Los Angeles Times). Directed by Tony Award® winner Michael Mayer (Spring Awakening, Hedwig ... read more

Well, all good things have to come to an end. All bad things do too, but we won’t worry about that. Today was a magnificent THREE hour snorkel at Two-step, which really has such a wide-ranging variety of environments that even today we picked up two NEW FISH. Plus, with our new Scuba Fish Hawaii app, we’ve been realizing that some taken in the past need renaming. So we are concluding that we have found 20 new fish. (and because we found the parrots this afternoon, 10 new birds). After that 3 hours, we had a lovely hour chatting to friend Pam again, and a new friend who also was traveling alone. We all enjoyed the ice creams sold on the corner, and had a few rambutans for lunch. We “saved” a few families from killing ... read more

Day 9. Starting out with some navigational confusion, we headed for a few kms in the wrong direction on the freeway. Soon finding the real route we were immediately onto gravel forestry roads. Heavy mist & light rain were present to start our day but then gradually fined up, We rode past a lake at one point which had a large yacht on it so it must have been an extensive area of water to have justified such a big boat being there. Plenty of smaller boats and nearby there was a huge trailer park with dozens large Caravans and 5th wheelers all set up permanently many with decks, fences, flowers and fenced lawns. Obviously a popular recreational venue. Today's route, although great scenery was pretty ordinary riding, mainly on seal. Towards the end of the ... read more

From Fodor's: If you think New York is too crazy-busy, the High Line on Manhattan’s West Side provides the perfect antidote to crowded sidewalks, honking taxis, and the go-go-go mentality. At this masterful revival of an old, elevated freight rail line, a beautifully designed pathway wanders for 1.45 miles between Gansevoort Street and W. 30th Street amid trees, gardens, and flowering plants, enticing you to slow down and take it all in. Along the way, you’re treated to unique perspectives on the surrounding neighborhoods’ architecture—it passes through cool Chelsea and the glam Meatpacking District. Locals and visitors alike also enjoy a host of inspiring events, art exhibitions, performances, and docent-led tours. A couple of highlights along the route include: Chelsea Market: Most of the 22 buildings you see around... read more
