You know the tune and the words, sung by the Chairman of the Board: Start spreading the newsI'm leaving todayI want to be a part of itNew York, New YorkThese vagabond shoesThey are longing to strayRight through the very heart of itNew York, New YorkI want to wake up in a cityThat never sleepsAnd find I'm king of the hillTop of the heapThese small town bluesThey are melting awayI'll make a brand new start of itIn old New YorkIf I can make it there... read more

Midtown Manhattan's legendary train terminal is not only one of the most-frequented landmarks of NYC, but also a cultural hotspot of sorts. With close to a hundred eateries and retail stores in its precincts, this 20th-century terminal ensures visitors always have something to do apart from catching their next train. Exhibitions, holiday fairs, the celebrated Grand Central food market, bars, restaurants, shops, and the spectacular view of the terminal's central hall await travelers who stroll into the terminal. From their website: This historic world-famous landmark in Midtown Manhattan is not simply a transportation hub — it’s also a shopping, dining, and cultural destination all under one magnificent roof. Opened to the public in February 1913, Grand Central Terminal is a story of great engineering, survival, and rebirth. In 1978, architect Philip Johnson and First Lady Jacqueline ... read more

Hey there everyone, Scout here! Figured we should do an update on the Epic Cross Country TAPS briefing adventure. It is a really very simple reason that we slowed down for a few weeks. FRENCHY DROVE THE TIRES OFF THE RV! …LITERALLY! So, we took a chill pill and hung around North Dakota. I understand that she must do “house things”; you know, mowing, pulling weeds, paying bills and the mundane responsibilities of owning a house. She spent an entire afternoon doing those mandatory events and then we were off on a “staycation”! Summertime in North Dakota is so much better than the winter. Since I have short legs, there is a noticeable difference in potty breaks with 4 feet of snow versus the lush green grass of the summer. For me, being home means I ... read more

Miraculously, David’s foot feels good today – still red and a bit swollen, and frankly tender on the top side, but he was able to put his snorkel bootie on, and also his flippers. So we were back in business. Off we went to Two Step again, which is 45 mins to the south. It was amazing, and we stayed out in the water 2 hours and 40 mins. In fact, we chatted to a couple who had been in and out already, and said, well goodbye because you won’t see us again. (And later, when another couple was in this spot, they said – we wondered if you’d gotten lost because the previous people told us they’d met you.) Because the tide was reasonably high, we went in the same way we’d gotten out the ... read more

So here we are again….Karen and Ed with Terry and I. We decided this year we would revisit some of the New England states and cross the border into Montreal. This year we planned our trip to spend more time in less destinations. Everywhere we go we spend two or three nights. At the time I planned this I didn’t know Terry was going to be injured and have limited mobility so this actually works out perfect for him. It has been a little challenging having to get a walker or wheelchair in and out of the cargo carrier but we couldn’t have made the trip without them. The other big difference is I’m doing the driving as Terry isn’t permitted to drive. His knee injury is on his right leg. He is used to driving, ... read more

Has it been a decade already? Billy Joel, the man with two first names, and known as "The Piano Man" is closing his residency at MSG in 2024. The award-winning artist said he never expected his residency at the venue to last this long. He began performing at the New York arena back in 2014, becoming the Garden's first-ever music franchise. Over the years he has been joined by other big-name artists such as Bruce Springsteen, Miley Cyrus, Elton John, John Mayer and more. "I'm kind of flabbergasted that it lasted as long as it did. My team tells me that we could continue to sell tickets, but ten years, 150 shows – all right already!," the singer said in a press conference. "To our audience, I want to thank them for coming to our shows ... read more

Most any trip to New York City must involve the famous Yankee Stadium in the Bronx. Having been to Yankee Stadium a few years ago, I am taking my friends from Atlanta to the game on Sunday. My last trip to NYC was probably not long after 9-11. Why is Yankee Stadium so famous? I would guess it is the legacy of the great Yankee players over the years: Ruth Gehrig, Dimaggio, Mantle, Berra, Jeter, Rivera, and now Aaron Judge from Fresno State. It may also be famous since it is, after all, the Big Apple. The original Yankee Stadium (built for $2.4 million) was the home of the Yankees from 1923 to 2008. It is often referred to as the "House that Ruth Built." It was the first stadium in North America with three tiers. ... read more

Day 7 Out of our nice accommodation in Harpers Ferry we rode into Shepherdstown for gas then we were on mainly mainly seal for 150 miles. However this was a great winding sealed route alongside a babbling brook and some trees starting to lose their leaves. Good colours, some fast sections and then slow switchbacks kept us alert (and awake). Later in the day the route led us onto around 15 miles of a fantastic forest track. This had everything rocks, woopdies, (jumps if you hit at speed you gain air), some rocky stream and puddle crossings. A great way to finish the day. Our destination was a tiny town called Brandywine and shortly after our arrival there was a huge thunderstorm & torrential rain. The restaurant here was only open for takeaway pizza as they ... read more

Well, evidently David doesn’t like me to have all the excitement with being bitten by a triggerfish. The day started well – we attended the 8:30 service at New Hope again, and the music and prayers and sermon were all wonderful, and we were warmly welcomed as before. We’d taken our swim suits, knowing that the winds always rise by the afternoon so we wanted to get in asap. Drove north about 45 mins from the church, changed in the restrooms, hauled our stuff the ¾ mile across the hot lava trail, and found that the winds were so high there were white caps in the bay! Oh poo. We contemplated what to do, and decided that we should at least enjoy a very early lunch by sharing one of those tender-as-butter calamari steaks as it ... read more

Surprise, surprise I was right..........jet lag did its' usual thing and Mandy & I were both, pretty much, wide awake at 5.00 am on day 2, but fortunately, the good news was that the bed was very comfortable and we had both slept really well. The sun was peaking through the clouds as it came up over the sea, when Mandy and I arrived in the lobby for breakfast around 7.00 am, but by the time Steve and Lily had joined us, about 20 minutes later, Mr Sun had disappeared behind a very gloomy looking sky, a sky that rather matched the look on Steve and Lily's faces when they arrived to join us. It was clear that Lily was struggling to walk and they explained that she had suffered a muscle spasm of some sort ... read more
