Hello everyone, apologies for the delay in blogging we are all still alive and well so here is an update on our activities over here in the US. So I think I left you anticipating our trip into Old Scottsdale. In brief it's not very old (Est. 1912) and there isn't very much there so we went to a massive shopping mall in Scottsdale where more shopping was done and dinner was eaten. The next morning after collecting the hire car we drove the 350 miles North to the Grand Canyon North Rim a longer drive than to the South Rim but it has 10% of the tourists. The scenery on the way up was spectacular and it only improved as we neared the Grand Canyon. We stopped at a view point where the bridge crossed ... read more

July 27, 2013 - Saturday Today we were a bit lazy in the morning and then at 1 pm we went over to the Hatfield Marine Science Center and watched the resident octopus being fed. Her name is Sashay and she’s fed only on Mon., Thurs., and Sat. She’s lovely and turns a deep shade of dark red when excited about her food coming. She’s fed fish and sometimes shrimp. And she eats it up quickly too. They octopus they have are only kept for about 5 months and then put back into the ocean. There are so few octopus that survive that they don’t want them to stay in the Center and not be able to reproduce. Of the approximately 100,000 babies born, only 1 or 2 survive! The female dies after her babies are ... read more

We had intended to go up to Mount Aleaska to ride the tram today, but a front came in and there were clouds everywhere most of the day. Instead we went to the local community market and then had lunch at Moose Tooth Pizza and Brewery. It truly was the best pizza of this whole trip. Then it was off to the commissary to do our grocery shopping. We have food in every nook and cranny in our rig. Food prices in Canada are crazy ($8.00 for a gal. of milk). Since we can't do much about the $6.60 a gal. gas prices, at least we hope to not have to buy many groceries during the three weeks we will be traveling down through Canada.... read more

July 27th, 2013 8:13 PDT Day 18 We got an earlier start today because our travel was to Henderson, NV., 346 miles. The first 50 miles were slow because there were many long hills to climb. It got real cold throughout the morning. Mae had two light jackets on and used one of my jackets to cover her legs, I endured with one light jacket and sweat pants, I was very cold. As we dropped in altitude the air got warmer, then came the sun. By the time we got to within 50 miles of Las Vegas, NV., it got hot (99 degrees), we decided to fold the top of front windshield down, the air felt good, drove this way to our motel. We drove through main drag in Las Vegas to see the buildings. It ... read more

27 July, 2013 It started raining Thursday night and rained all night Thursday, all day Friday and all of Friday night. But this morning was sunny and bright. Clouds moved in and out all day, but by late afternoon, most of the clouds were gone. Due to Friday’s rain, we mostly sat indoors, except when we went to the Walmart in Ellsworth to stock up on groceries. Friday morning I paid bills and took care of that chore. Friday night’s rains were more of the drizzly sort, but the trees would become loaded with rain and then the water would blow out of them onto the roof. It sounded like out-of-sync rain. Today we followed US 1 north, which up here is called the Coastal Highway. I guess it hasn’t been the Dixie Highway for many, ... read more

Security was no barrier to us (well to me) today, in fact a good laugh was had with the guard about my little fiasco yesterday!! Once IN the Library of Congress, we joined a tour led by a rather pro-USA, anti-EU feminist guide who denied Helena her moment of glory for answering a question correctly because of her "incorrect" pronunciation of aluminium..... might have had something to do with the British burning the ilbrary down in the past .... oops ;) Despite our differences, it was very a interesting visit and an amazing building!! Then once again trusting the information on the map, our lunchtime destination was "Tortilla Coast" where we enjoyed lime margheritas (our IDs were actually accepted this time) and delicious quesadillas. The yumminess made up for the fact that, as our social status ... read more

We didn't expect it to rain today so when it started we decided to go to the USF&W hatchery and to the National Wildlife Art Museum just outside of town. The hatchery is located next to the Elk Refuge and is responsible for releasing over 200,000 Cut Throat Trout each year in Idaho and Wyoming. Cool to see how little year old trout look. Then we headed to the museum which was much bigger than it appeared from the outside. An amazing collection of diverse work including one painting by N.C. Wyeth of bison in the mountains. This museum also encouraged visitors to try their hands at artwork. Sean made an origami bird, Drew sketched a Cut Throat Trout, and Dean modeled a Cut Throat Trout in clay. We also spent some time walking around town ... read more

Day Three: Pretty loud Kari-Oki (SP????) went on last night until exactly 10 PM. Rained most of the night last night. Rained (hard) until almost noon. Gena drove until 9:30. She noticed that I hadn’t mentioned the rain she drove thru in Montgomery on our first day - - now, it is mentioned along with the 3 hours through rain this morning. We got off at 6:30 this morning and made it to Matamoras, PA (where I-84 crosses the Delaware River into NY - - ~530 miles) Traffic on I-81 was pretty heavy but moving right along. Places in PA were pretty rough. Our Campground here Tri State Campground is pretty much a dump., but the only act in own and we did get a level pull through slot with water, electric, and WiFi. This is ... read more

We finallymade to first destination, Farmongton, CT. It was a long day, but really relaxing. First we had to make it out of NJ. That always seems to be our first goal when we ride. It is particularly difficult when you are going to New England. We had a ice relaxing ride from Trenton to Somerville where we picked up 287. A couple of years ago, on one of our first multiday trips, we did 287. It was terrifying There are times that 287 becomes a five lane highway. Well, I am happy to say that we are definitely feeling more seasoned. We did 287 today, and it wasnt bad. Our travels were, however, greatly extended when we decided to get off of rt. 84 because of heavy (think parking lot)traffic. We took an alternate route ... read more
