Glacier Lakes Motorcycle Club and the
AMA sponsored the 2010 Titanic Grand Tour and it was one of the most fun things I have ever done on a motorcycle or should I say motorcycles. I started the tour riding my 2007 Honda Shadow Spirit VT750DC and after a really bad wreck in North Carolina I ended the tour on a 2007 Suzuki V-Strom DL650.
The tour started on April 15, 2010 with 173 riders hopeful riders. The goal I set for my first ever tour was to finish in the top forth of the pack. I had quite an ambitious goal.
One of the first things I did was sit down at the at the kitchen table with maps of South Carolina, North Carolina and Georgia. Next I grabbed up my two son, Harper and Spencer, and we started searching for all the towns that ended in “Ton” and “Burg”. I could not believe the number of towns that we found on the maps. We then set out planning routes that would have us visiting the greatest number of towns on any given day. The kids wanted to ride with me so they both picked out one or more of the
routes that they wanted to ride with me.
During the first two thirds of the tour I was on quite a roll racking up “Ton's”and “Burg's”, that is until I went for a weekend trip with my friend Jim. We were out chasing towns on the back roads of North Carolina when I had a pickup truck pull out in-front of me causing my bike and I to go sliding across the asphalt. Thank goodness our wives were not far away with the car shopping. Jim called them and got me a ride back to the weekend cabin, as my bike road off on the back of a flatbed.
It took a while, mostly because of the battle I had to with my insurance company, but I found the perfect replacement bike. I lost lots of time and was only able to get one more town with the new bike. Before I knew it, September 15 was here along with the close of the tour.
All of my fun can be discovered on my blog; see the below links for a quick guide to my adventures courtesy of the Titanic Grand Tour.

Not only did I get a top third finish but I also won a HP 3.2 MP digital camera and data cable. To top it all off, the people from Glacier Lakes not only sent me a finishers t-shirt but they also included a t-shirt for each of my kids.
I can't wait to see what next years tour has in store for me and my family!
