This weekend we went to Camp Lakeside at Benbow Lake for the church campout. It was the first time we got our own campsite and used our tent for the first time. It was a relaxing weekend--pretty much the same as it is every year. Sometimes it's just nice to get away from the city for a little while and be able to actually see the stars at night. ... read more

Hi Guys Just a quick one today I'm afraid, rather short on time. Just to let you all know that we're in the lovely Friends House in the University area of town (no more island life for us). Yesterday saw another mighty physical effort as we cycled all round Vashon Island on the bikes with no gears or breaks (love thoes downhills, Boo to thoes uphills). Plus we managed to miss a right turn (I don't know how we managed considering there are three right turns on the whole road!) and cycled an extra 5 miles of super hilly crountry. Ftrom there it was back to Seattle propper to stay at the Friend's House. Unfortunately we only had a tourist map which showed the University district where the house was located to be a mere couple ... read more

As promised, my artists impression (using the medium of 'Paint') of Vashon Island. Just like being there eh? Hello again. Writing this one from the nice t'internet cafe in downtown seattle. Have spent the night over on the Vashon Island Youth Hostel, which was about as far away from Pender Lodge in terms of hostels as it is possible to get. The Vashon Island is an old ranch with wagons and teepees you can sleep in. We were in the barn, which was huge with multi layer beds, winner. Travelling down from Vancouver yesterday was fine on the super vibrating greyhound bus (it was hard to read it was shaking so much) and as it was raining hard the whole way we were quite relieved to be travelling. Although we did get a bit of hastle ... read more

Dear all, Here's my first entry which will try to span the trip from Vancouver to Seattle without repeating what John has already posted. It's been incredibly tiring spanning such a huge section of the globe so I must admit my old carcass has had a hard time adapting to the new environment. I guess the cliche is to begin talking about the phenomenal size of everything, from pick up trucks that could comfortably serve as buses in Europe to the size of the drinks and food you can get. It's hilarious how big it all is and how insignificant it can make you feel. Another thing that's worth noting is the sheer quantity of Starbucks that there are here, it's as recurring as McDOnalds (which means there is one on every block, and at times ... read more

Only one week left until I leave! The excited/nervous/overwhelmed sensation is definitely setting in... (The above statement is absolutely true, but I also wanted to check to make sure this blog thing actually works - so don't worry, future entries will be MUCH more interesting :) ... read more

Hello! I'm getting ready for a trip to Tanzania later this month. Going to try really hard to climb Kilimanjaro, and then setting out to go on safari and explore the cities and towns along the countryside. Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar are definite destinations, but I'm open to advice from fellow travelers! Not sure what to expect, but looking forward to the sights, sounds, and adventures just waiting to be discovered!... read more

Put a smile on my face. I'm home, I have a job. I have family and friends within my life, there when needed, when lonely or drained, when sucked like a Pixie Stick of all the juices that would otherwise bring a sweet flavor to life. And then the memories, the floods and torrents of the moments in the past that brought me to where I am today. I know I haven't lost them, or slipped on that large, wild banana peel placed before me by the callings of everyday life. I am here, present, but distant in thoughts where I see the future lilting in the dreams I once yearned for. I am here, yet I am not, mesmerized by the smiles and the laughs, the strange enriched situations where the others and I are ... read more

It was surely the trip each way that livened and set this trip up to be the way it was. Curious, unexpected, misguided but most importantly fun! Up shit creek without any decent radio stations, Leace’s CD collection came into play and with house music blaring like it would back home, on hopped the unlikely family and off we were, um, which way??!!! Don’t really know, didn’t really care! After bullshitting our way through US immigration, nearly running over an immigration officer and deciding not to employ any road diesels along the way, our next task was trying to make sense out of the plain, simple folk at the Green Tortoise hostel (I thought this place was alright, but in hindsight I agree with my friends, absolute shit - cept for the boardroom, good things happen ... read more
