R: when we arrived at Bryce canyon it was snowing pretty heavily. The lady at the last motel did warn us we were going higher. We had about 2 daylight hours left to experience Bryce canyon in the snow. We headed straight for the Sunrise point, the first of the viewpoints into the canyon. The first view was incredible - thousands of rock formations all sticking up out of the canyon of varying different sizes, all made out of bright orange rock. (Early readers will remember me referring to Hoodoos in Canada). The orange of the rock combined with the green of the fir trees and white of the snow is truely a sight to behold. The space and expanse is huge in the canyon - you can see for miles - that's when the clouds ... read more

Moab is a crazy place. The last few days will not soon be forgotten. The landscape here is something which has to be experienced. Photos do not do it justice; the scale of everything is hard to grasp and it makes taking photos even harder too. Massive landscapes, towering towers, reaching arches, and everything else here causes massive shadows to fall in weird places which are definitely nice for escaping the heat, but often lead to hordes of people trying to all be at the right place at the right time to get "the" photo. I like taking photos, but I'm not that guy. In the past few days I've done a dozen hikes ranging from 8 km to 2 km and have seen more natural arches than I can shake a stick at. The most ... read more

If you have followed my blogs over the past years you will know that Beeny the Rabbit comes along with me... and perhaps you have seen a photo of the trusty rucksack with a little mouse dangling .. He was given to me by my dear friend Marilyn. Well sad to say but on Monday he must have decided that enough was enough and he was ready to retire from all this dangling and travelling and he escaped somehow whilst in Bryce Canyon - I have a theory that he was enticed away by those squirrels and is now happily frolicking in the trees .. I am glad he is wearing a little anorak as it gets snowy up there in winter. So goodbye mouse , you have been a good friend and I am happy ... read more

Today we spent the day in Bryce Canyon, Utah. It was a PERFECT day in every way - blue skies, interesting clouds, not too hazy, and awesome views from the ridge of the canyon. The word for the day was definitely W-O-W!! As people walked up to each lookout, the first word out of their mouth was WOW! There is no place quite like Bryce Canyon. Hoodoos (odd-shaped pillars of rock left standing from the forces of erosion) and the red colors in the rock make this a very unique place to visit. One can learn much more about this place just by going on the internet, so I will leave it for you to follow through if at all interested. Bryce Canyon was one of my father's favorite places. I remember him taking time-lapse pictures ... read more

From a letter written approximately June 9th I just hit the two month mark last week, probably longer by the time this gets posted. The last week has been a series of miraculous events, kind people, and fantastic views. I've been weaving my way up Northern Arizona and Southern Utah, the "Arizona strip" as it is called. I've meandered through the Grand Canyon and the Canyonlands, hitting Bryce Canyon and Escalante and am about to go through Capitol Reef. Bryce Canyon with its mysterious pink and orange hoodoo ampitheater was certainly my favorite. Looking down into the canyon among the bulbous spires and columns I encountered many sinister faces staring back, faces and characters made of stone, animated in the late rays of sunshine. Later I learned that the hoodoos of Bryce Canyon are evil people ... read more

Photos from this day at Bryce Canyon and a few from Zion Staying at Ruby's Inn is nearly as close as camping right inside Bryce Canyon National Park, and waking up early after traveling 2 time zones west is much easier, so we arrived at Bryce Point in plenty of time for first light. This morning it was only Matt & I. Ray felt a recent cold bug trying to regain strength so he told us last night that he'd skip the first session, and we'd meet him for breakfast. Early mornings are a great time in the parks. There are no lines getting in because most people are still sleeping, including the rangers who'd be checking for passes at the gate and trying not to slow traffic while remaining helpful and treating each visitor as ... read more

Photos from this day in Bryce Canyon National Park Most of our stuff we packed the night before, and had sitting by the door when we got up. It was Day 2 of this special visit to Zion/Bryce with my son Matt, and good friend Ray Listanski. We planned on leaving early, but not so early as to make sunrise in Bryce Canyon, which was a bit over an hour away. Besides, I wanted these guys to experience breakfast at The Thunderbird Restaurant in Mount Carmel. The plan was to checkout as soon as the front desk opened at 7, and be on our way. We walked in at a polite 7:04, and I was happy to see an old friend, Kevin McLaws going through some papers behind the desk. He has a way of ... read more

!! Enjoy Steph... read more

On our way to Glendale RV Park We're up early for the drive to Glendale, our base for visiting Zion and Bryce Canyon NP's. We're greeted though by the sound of thunder, a few lightening streaks, hail and snow and rain, interspersed with a bit of sunshine. 4 seasons in one! First we have to call Cruise America as the generator packed in last night (not one of Pete or C’s favourite machines because of the noise it made. But then again, needs must!) . After doing all the diagnostics they ask, they agree it's broken and we'll need to get to a service centre to get it repaired. None are on our route though, so we decide to revisit our plans so we always have electric hook ups at RV sites we stay at and ... read more
