Scenic Byway 12, Utah’s All-American ?? Road ? omg!!! Ear popping jaw dropping...thru Dixie National Forest ? reaching the Summit - 9600 ft. If you ever get a chance, check out this road sometime...simply stunning. Karen is going to look up all the scenic byways in the U.S. ? We drove thru Boulder, Tree ? City USA. Crazy ? dramatic steep and narrow road...no shoulder or guard rails. Scary ? Many stops along the way, including the Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument. It is not a staircase per se...the name is a reference to the series of cliffs rising from south to north from the foot of the Kaibab Plateau (adjacent to the Grand Canyon) to the rim of Bryce Canyon. Speed limit 25 mph - definitely obey the speed limit on this road ?? It’s ... read more

We wanted to see the park in morning light and to also get ahead of the weekend crowds so first thing this morning we got going but this time we drove the car instead of taking the shuttle bus. The views are dramatic. Like the Grand Canyon, pictures don't capture the dimensions. The famous quote from Ebenezer Bryce, the first Mormon settler here, when asked how he would describe it said "Well, its a heluva place to lose a cow." This afternoon we took an ATV tour on Kate's recommendation. We followed trails out to the rim and through woods and fields. Its not really my kind of thing but to be honest we all had a blast. We saw a group of pronghorn antelope along the way. This evening we want to go back in ... read more

we are heading East, and I'm late on blogging, but it's only the beginning of a huge delay....impossible to drive, organize, work a little and play even more! We are starting our little Utah and Arizona visit by a stop in Zion than on to Bryce Canyon. I was back here with Leslie and Tiffany on the first days of January 2013! Yes, that was while we were living in Buenos Aires! Visiting all those landmarks early January means two things...first, thin crowds, second, freezing temperatures! We had none of those for our visit. We left Las Vegas at 6.15 in the morning....it was already pretty hot...but good surprise, Zion, our first stop, would not be as warm as Vegas! We are at a way higher altitude here! i paid the 80usd yearly fee for the ... read more

Rice Canyon is an amazing thing to see. Very beautiful canyon with unique hoodoo's . Very glad we were able to find time to stop by. Now unlike Zion though after only a few hours I do feel I got everything out of Bryce. You can drive up to near everything. There are hikes all over to see things closer but all of it is he hints you can see from above. Pretty much opposite to Zion you start st the good parts. This is great for photography because you can scout for a day gen go back to write places at perfect times. However other than the one awesome Canyon and hoodoos I think Zion just offers more things to see. That being said Bryce is still amazing and I think fact you can ... read more

After our great stay in Moab, had breaky at the local diner and headed out of Moab at around 9.00a.m. for the 4 1/2hr run down to Bryce Canyon, love driving through Utah so scenic, the scenery changes every few klms, it seemed like no time and we were arriving at Ruby's Inn in Bryce Canyon. Booked in and then decided to do a run into the Bryce Canyon National Park, it did not disappoint, stunning place! Took us 4-5 hrs to get around all the sites....but like all the other National Parks we have been you could spend days here hiking all the trails but we did get to see all the most important sites and did a few short walks. A lot cooler here in Bryce Canyon, altitude 9,100ft as opposed to Moab at ... read more

Thursday October 13 - Today we headed to Bryce Canyon National Park. We also had a shuttle bus in this park, but again, it made it easy to get around. We decided to do a combination hike from the possibilities, and it combined the Sunrise to Sunset hike with the Navajo and Peekaboo hikes, forming a large figure 8. I haven't mentioned it before, but the days were quite hot, around 85-90 degrees (30 C) which was both nice and a little difficult for hiking in such a sunny, dry climate. This hike walked us down into the canyon, walking among the hoodoos, the rock formations that are left behind as the sandstone breaks down over time. Very dramatic and cool. The hike took us several hours and was well worth it. Afterwards we checked out ... read more

Our stay in Eagle just kept extending. We were only going to visit for a few days but then it was well, there’s a free Gig on Wednesday in Avon, oh and on Thursday there is a band in the Park, and at the weekend there is a three day Guitar Festival, not to be missed and so on. This was all great the only problem being we were still in the car park that said “no overnight parking” Terry contacted the local authorities, explained the situation and we got a pass to stay until Tuesday. So on Saturday we happily set off to the Guitar Festival only once halfway there to receive a call from Terry’s son, Karl to say the police had changed their minds, we had to move. However they did suggest we ... read more

Today Mandy was fortunate enough to get to come along and now she is tired and has not moved from her spot since we came home. The drive alone on Highway 12 Scenic Byway to Bryce Canyon National Park was awesome! On the way we went through Red Canyon were we passed orange/red mountains that contained hoodoos. Then we drove through two arches that came out of the mountains, these were constructed by J.W. Humphry. Once in Bryce Canyon we drove the entire way to the end, 18 miles. The views at this point were nice, but the best views were near the entrance of the park. There were tons of crimson-colored hoodoos, which are odd-shaped pillars. At about the half way point there is a stop, Natural Bridge, with a natural bridge formed from beautiful ... read more

Last day in Yosemite we took a short hike in Nelder Grove and walked amongst the giant sequoias, oaks and firs, some you could walk through and others so tall it made my neck tire from looking up. The fur cones were as large and long as my shoes. The dogs loved it and so did we. We stopped for the night at Barstow at the KOA in the middle of the Mojave desert, the wind was whipping and there was basically nothing else around except sand and a few fellow campers stopping on the way to wherever they were going. Monday and Tuesday we spent a little time wandering our way back down on the strip in Vegas and enjoyed the craziness of it all. This was a bit of city life before heading to ... read more
