Spent the day at Bryce Canyon National Park in Utah. Another geologic jewel, arguably the finest. For the first three hours I drove the scenic route throughout the park and stopped at about 18 observation points; each one trying to outdo the others in terms of the view. At all view points, you see the venerable hoodoos - limestone rock formations of all shapes, sizes, colours and contortions. Wonderful views, especially from Bryce and Inspiration Points. Saw Thor's hammer, the Queens Garden, the Wall of Windows ands many many more. There was even a natural arch in the mix. Following the drive, off on a short hike to Mossy Cave trail. My type of trail, short but picturesque, with hoodoos of course all along the route. A cute little waterfall at trails end. Tomorrow I tackle ... read more

It really was one of the best Thanksgivings ever. Wednesday night we arrived at our accommodations in Tropic, Utah. The cabin was perfect, with a king bed and little kitchen corner, and our own front porch (although we didn't get to use the porch, since it was cold and snowy outside). The whole town was closed, so for dinner we picnicked on a few goodies we packed for the road. After dinner we took a stroll through the neighborhood. There were few street lamps to light our way, but the stars were so bright we didn't event need flashlights. The Milky Way was so prominent; it truly was amazing. The next morning we woke up to see an untouched snowy covered landscape. Aside from a bus of Japanese tourists, we were the only ones in the ... read more

Have you ever done something unique, something so unusual that as you did it you knew it was a once in a lifetime experience? We got an early start to our morning in Zion, hopping on the shuttle at the Visitor Center to catch a ride to our trailhead under crystal clear skies. The buses were crowded, as plenty of other visitors were also intent on getting an early start to their day in the park. We rode to the last stop, disembarked and ambled pleasantly along a paved Riverside walk, an easy, level trail that flowed alongside the river. The morning air was crisp, and our group was relatively quiet as we drew closer to our destination – the beginning of The Narrows. This is quite possibly the only trail of its kind. The paved ... read more

Hi all, After a truly amazing couple of weeks in Hawaii, the mainland's certainly got a lot to live up to! We spent a night in an airport hotel in LA and then left the next morning for the start of our giant road trip. When we picked up our hire car, we were surprised to find that they just tell you to go into a big hangar, from where you can take your pick from any car in your category - they're all just sitting there with the keys in. So, after looking at several different makes and models we settled on a Chevrolet Impala (now christened Hawk after my golfing partner in Bali). It feels right to be driving a big American sedan, it's also got a giant boot which we'll be living out ... read more

I am totally amazed at God's creations. Bryce Canyon has rock formations that are beyond my imagination. The colors are vivid and brilliant. We spent two days driving through the mountains. I climbed in and out of that truck so many times to take pictures I lost count. My little dog Twyla got to the point she didn't want to go with me. Among the animals we saw, there were three little chipmunks that played and cut up so much I wondered where Alvin their keeper was keeping himself. We also saw a small family of deer that looked different from our Oklahoma deer. here was also another type of deer that had great big ears. I am wondering if they are Mule Deer. Folks, Utah is an amazing state. We have been from one end ... read more

A day to tidy up and get ready for tomorrow’s trip toSalt Lake City. No live streaming with GBC today so we praised the Lord and thanked Him for His many blessings while we did laundry and washed the trailer. Lots of hard work for the whole morning, but we are thankful that we have the health and strength to be able to do it. This afternoon we headed to a Soup and Pie Restaurant, not far from the campground. We had a nice lunch, oh yes, and some pie too! Then went to a Trading Post and looked around at all of the tourist stuff. Tonight we head to Bryce Canyon again and go to Sunset Point to, yes, watch the sunset – it should be awesome, especially with the moon as large as it ... read more

Exploring Bryce Canyon today!Pronghorn deer all over a meadow, no way to stop for a picture. Maybe later. Aah, the Hoodoos! Went to Bristle Cone Loop, walked the loop and saw all the Bristle Cone trees, cool looking trees. Next to Rainbow Point, 9100’ COOL! Aqua Canyon next, pretty; then Natural Bridge, awesome. Finally Bryce Point, really beautiful and we saw our first Stellar’s Jay. See pic. Also saw Violet Green swallows flying in and out of the cliffs at Bryce Point. Returned and had lunch at the Lodge, very, very nice! Our server was from Bath,Maine. All the Nat’l Park restaurants and some other jobs are kids (usually) from all over the world. We just happened to get a girl from the States. We were seated next to an open window and it got a ... read more

A travel day! Off toBryceCanyon,Utah. 74 degrees at8:15 a.m. Higher elevation (7800’) means lower temps. (70 degrees). Bye bye to the mesas and buttes and hello to mountains with snow and flashing signs warning of ‘frequent wildlife in the area’. Stop by the Sevier River for lunch, a real pretty spot, fast flowing and rafters coming in from a morning of adventure. Some beautiful scenery today, we are so blessed!... read more
