Saturday October 15 - After Goblin Valley we drove on to Arches National Park. A popular park on a Saturday is not ideal, but it wasn't so bad. We stopped at the visitor's center first, to see if we could get tickets to join the ranger-led tour of Fiery Furnace the next day, since you can only buy them in person in October, but no luck. They were sold out for a week. I had been hoping to do that hike, but it was ok. There was plenty to do. We decided to walk to Delicate Arch with the time we had left that day. Delicate Arch is THE arch that everyone has seen pictures of, the one on the Utah license plate and quarter. You can see it from a distance from two viewpoints, but ... read more

Today we were lucky enough to visit Arches National Park in Utah. It is amazing the work God has created in this park from soft red sandstone deposits. The park offers 23 miles of paved driving area that begins with switchback inclines up into the park. Most of the formations you are unable to see from the parking areas, some are a short walk while others take a little more time and a lot of drinking water. Bringing our doggy, Mandy, to this park would have held us back since they are only aloud in parking and paved areas. This is the largest concentration of natural sandstone arches with over 2,000 cataloged natural arches in the park. Nate and Daisy's favorite arch was Sand Dune Arch, the walk into the arch was through soft red/orange sand ... read more

Today's drive started off real easy on US-89 and then onto I-70 E, that was till we reached a part of I-70 with 6 miles of 6% grade and curvy roads, but again God watched over us and we made into Moab, UT. The steep grade was rough on Nate pulling the trailer, but the mountains were amazing the one mountain appeared as if it erupted from the earth and fell over like a whale breaching the water. You will have to view the photos but I do not think they will show what we saw in person. We are staying at OK RV Park ($22/night passport) and it is better than ok, the Wi-Fi is great, it has cable, shade (high tomorrow 103), level sites... cannot ask for much more. Tomorrow we will go visit ... read more

Greetings All This is a blog from my latest trip to Utah. We spend 8 days hiking, biking and Camping through the national parks. Arches NP is one of the most beautiful and unusual place I have ever been. There are not just a couple of Arches, there are hundreds of them with some great hikes that allow you to escape the crowds. Its one of my favourite National Parks in America. The views are incredible and you literally stumble upon stunning arches around every corner.... read more

Devils Garden Trail, 7.5 miles, most difficult hike in Arches National Park, some areas may involve steep drop offs, difficult climbs and some water crossing. This was the warning on the guide map. We were in need of a good walk and didn’t think much of the distance. We drove through the park sun shining, to the end of the road and came to the parking area for Devils Garden Trail, there are warning signs encouraging you to take plenty of water, etc. We were prepared, camelbacks full of water, first aid and walking sticks. The hike started of very easy along a gravel pathway, huge canyon rocks towering around and beautiful views of the rock formations the first arch we came to was impressive, gentle slopes continued up and down and then we came to ... read more

R : We set off for the national parks... via Walmart. Amazingly, the Americans seem to be able to control themselves the day before Thanksgiving in a way that you don't see Brits behaving sensibly in a supermarket in the UK Before Christmas. Loaded with supplies we headed south. It's about 250 miles from SLC which took just over 3 hours. The road takes you up over a mountain range where there was a bit of snow on the top. We have been nervously watching the weather for the last week as a winter storm was threatened, but it amounted to nothing... We arrived at Arches national park with about 40 miles worth of fuel left in the tank, which kind of limited our fun a bit. The park is about 300 square km, but you ... read more

I hope it doesn't get too boring seeing more pictures of Arches but it's a few years since I was here and I am still awed by the grandeur and for Suzanne this is her first time here. Over the past couple of years the number of visitors to Arches has greatly increased and they are having some probless with the traffic in the park ... It is really too vast for a shuttle system they say but they are working on solutions. Anyway it was a surprise to find a long queue of cars just waiting to get into the park but after about 15 mins we were in and once we got driving around we were lucky to find a parking space at each of the points where we wanted to take a hike. ... read more

We had an amazing day at Arches National Park. We were surprised at how many people were there, but again, we had a beautiful day. It didn't feel hot until we started hiking to see one of the arches, most are not visible from the road. The surprise was the trip away from Moab to Denver along the Colorado River on Highway 128 Scenic Byway--one of the most beautiful stretches of road we had ever seen. For a few miles we had a motorcycle with a GO-PRO on his helmet in front of us. He was standing up the entire time to get a smoother video. He was followed by a truck, which was behind us with some other various equipment. If you ever see a beautiful video along the Colorado River on Hwy 128, then ... read more

"The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge. There is no speech or language where their voice is not heard. Their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world" Psalm 19:1-4 Water and ice, extreme temperatures, and underground salt movement are responsible for the sculptured rock scenery of Arches National Park. Over 2,000 arches have been cataloged, ranging in size from a 3ft. opening to the longest, Landscape arch, measuring 306ft. base to base. Beside all the arches, towering ... read more
