We said our farewells to Giles and friends and looked forward (NOT) to a full day of driving to get to Arches National Park, stopping on the way to post a big box of crap home. We got to the park at about 6pm, made our tea then went on a short 2 mile walk to stretch our legs and to view rocks that were supposed to resemble courthouses, which we could see, a little. The campsite was full so we had to leave the park and drive a few miles to another campsite but we weren’t sorry, as it was a really beautiful spot right next to the Colorado River. Now that Steph has told you her version of events about the scary uphill drive I will tell you the truthful unexaggerated version. What she said was true!!! So with that day behind us we decided to keep our feet on terra firma for the next couple of days. Saturday started off as a bit of a cloudy cold day. For the first time since we have been here in the US we appeared to have got some bad weather. I walked to the campground info centre to check on the forecast and found that there was a 40% chance of rain today with storms the next day and a 60% chance of rain on that day. Sept. 28, 2010 - Moab, Utah and Arches National Park. We began the day with an easy drive to the Park entrance, then climbed to a high plateau and the marvellous views began. The attached pictures show only a part of what we saw, and it was ALL spectacular. The day turned out to be quite warm again at 32C, which converts to about 92F and we went through a lot of water. All the locals are talking about the heat wave which is gripping the entire southwest part of the US. We hiked in to several of the arches. Yellowstone National Park has to be one of the most remarkable places on earth. The thermal areas are dramatic, the wildlife is plentiful and the scenery to die for. We spent 3 full days there looking at scenery, wildlife and thermal hot spots. Yellowstone has it all and we were so lucky again with the weather. We headed south to Grand Teton National Park where we stayed a night before heading south. The scenery again was spectacular and we woke up to find moose wandering through the camp site. There was a huge male with his harem and babies, it was wonderful to see. We have now seen a variety of bears, wolves, elk, foxes, moose, coyote, chipmunks, squirrels and eagles.
