Woke up a little groggy this morning, packed up the campsite and had breakfast. I had a strange fruity sugar drink for breakfast which tasted disgusting. It didn’t go down very well at all, soon after I was throwing up into the bush. The rest if the group were in the van ready to go while I hurled my guts up after drinking this terrible stuff. I jumped in the van feeling much better and we headed off for Myrtle Beach. Another day of driving today we arrived at the campsite in the early evening and set up our tents. As always for some unknown reason Ben put his tent up on the other side of the campsite, away from everyone else. We started preparing for dinner until two strange looking guys drove up in their ... read more

Another vacation has ended for us, and we're making the inevitably grueling drive home. When you're on the road headed for a weekend away, the drive seems less taxing. You're going toward something, you have an enjoyable goal, and you're fresh with excitement and energy. But when the fun is over and it's time to hit the road for home, the feeling is entirely different. Every mile seems to take an hour, every driver is exponentially more annoying, and even road food doesn't taste nearly as good and you find yourself thinking about the normal food at home. Lucky for me, we're driving through the Bible belt of South Carolina. I noticed this area on the way down, but knew to look for it this time. There's a church at every mile marker and either the ... read more

Today I learned what Myrtle Beach is actually about. Relaxation and cheese! We woke up around noon to a slightly overcast day, and Jerry of course assumed automatically that since it was so late, we will make it nowhere. I'm still trying to figure out if that was a ploy to get me up and moving, or if he really thought I was going to lie in bed all day. I was determined not to waste another vacation in another city to my own inability to get up and moving. I was showered and ready to go in a flash, and dragged poor Jerry out the door. Food was, of course, the first stop of the day, and a vacation to a tourist town isn't complete without a trip to the Hard Rock. We have one ... read more

This morning began in a panic. After lazily rolling over and cuddling up with my nice warm husband, snuggling further under the covers, Jerry decided to look at the time. We slept all the way through checkout! In a flurry of toothbrushes and suitcases, we ran at top speed to get out the door. Luckily they didn't actually care that we kept the room for 15 extra minutes, and we headed down the road. Today was interesting in Myrtle Beach. We rather willingly got sucked into a timeshare presentation for some free show tickets, and ended up actually buying one! Aren't we posh, with our fancy shmancy timeshare? Let's be honest: not even the largest timeshare they offered would have come close to how much we actually travel. So we bought the smallest one that lets ... read more

Left around 8:30 in the morning and headed South. I was surprised at all the duck hunting that takes place in this section of the country. The sand dune like beaches also amazed me. The beach banks are really high. It also came to my attention that surfing is king in this area of the country. In Mirlo Beach the sand is piled up like snow is piled up in Colorado. I bet the cats love this area. A lot of this area is dependent on tide somewhat. This is true for all coastal regions. There are huge wildlife preserves in this area. The fishing poles are mounted on the front of trucks. I talked to some locals and they mentioned people are surfcasting near Cape Hatteras lighthouse. So I decided to walk out there and ... read more

Just got back from spending a few days in the North Myrtle Beach, SC area. Specifically, we rented a cottage at Cherry Grove Beach. It was a great place, complete with hot tub and ping pong table, and was just a short walk from the beach. The weather was spectacular. The first day was warm, humid, and a little hazy. The following days were nice with less humid conditions, comfortable temperatures, and a little breeze. The beach was especially nice. We were at the north end of Cherry Grove. The timing of the low tides in the early afternoon allowed us access to an area that provided great views of the adjacent tidal marsh and undeveloped island to the north. Check out the beach video above! An interesting thing was noted while we were there. In ... read more
