The truck was packed with not an inch to spare and made it to Myrtle Beach in good time to get Ernie to the kennel and to our timeshare on the ocean. Flowers and green grass and warmer weather and no more SNOW. Played "The Witch" - beatiful course in the Low Country with boardwalk paths between the holes. Loved our tuna at bonefish and raw oysters at Rockefellers - food we can't get in NH. Had a thunderstorm over the ocean with lightning flashes and thunder. Happy hour on the patio watching the waves come in. Off to get the camper on Thur.... read more

09-24-10 I left the house as the sun was coming up over the lake in my back yard. The seat to my new V-Strom was still damp with the morning due and I was excited. Less than twelve hours earlier I had Big Boy Motorcycles installed new Shinko 705 dual purpose tires on the bike and was anxious to get them scuffed in. I headed toward the cost on Hwy. 378 to once again pull my bike into Jeff’s Garage for some serious wrenching done by myself and friends. The three hour ride too Myrtle Beach, SC was uneventful and a little boring. It had been a while since I had ridden without my XM radio or my GPS and my helmet was unusually quite. The ride to the beach was easy and you would think ... read more

I named the baby turtle MOSES!!! He’s so precious check out the picture of the little man!!! My mother, father, and I went out for a walk around the golf course at Brunswick Plantation this morning… and I found myself laughing about the conversation we were having at one point….this is EXACTLY how it went… with no pauses….. and if you know my family at all, you probably won’t be surprised one bit. ME: “Dad….did you know that in Texas, they say a Texas pledge after the Pledge of Allegiance in schools, and they put their hands out like this?” (holding my hands out in front of me cupping them together like I am catching water) DAD: “No I didn’t know that, that’s good, good for them. Did you know when the Constitution is printed there ... read more

The winds changed direction and off through the ocean inlet we went. Nice sunny day, our aim Beaufort North Carolina. In the entrance channel we were approached by a coast guard boat complete with a manned machine gun on it's bow. He wanted us to move over as far as possible since there was a submarine coming out astern of us. Well we are not inclined to argue with either guns or submarines. We got all the way out of the channel. Good thing too, these things throw an enormous wake. At Mark's word I turned Witchcraft to meet the huge waves the sub had created, and back into the channel we went. Sail up motor off and we settled into our northerly direction. The winds were flukey and not exactly as advertised as regards direction. ... read more

I have been running 10 or 11 hours a day since Fernandina beach. I bailed out to this marina because of thunderstorms tomorrow. There are only a few good anchorages I could have gotten to today and they are pretty small. I didn't want to be anchored close to other boats in 30 kt winds. I hope to leave early Monday morning and get to Wrightsville Beach, NC before dark. My brother is going to meet me there and run until where ever we are on Sat. This is the first marina I have been in since Fernandina. It was great to take a real shower. I think I was beginning to get a little gamey. I treated myself to a nice meal and few beers at the yacht club. Met a few people and traded ... read more

For the past few months I have been planning a number of major upgrades to the Shadow. I have been taking small steps towards turning this once calm little around town bike into a real Long Distance rider. The steps I have taken this weekend, with the help of friends, has gotten this LD Shadow a little closer to a comfortable long distance rider. I ordered a 3 gal. racing fuel cell from Jaz to replace the little 1.6 gal. milk jug aux. tank that I mounted on the rear luggage rack last year. I also ordered a set of Hyper Lights from Cycle Gadgets . I went with the upgraded version that also acts as running lights. The last thing I hoped to get done this weekend was to clean up the rat’s nest of ... read more
