We've spent the last 3 days enjoying Myrtle Beach and the outlying areas. Our pools here at the Marina Grand Dunes are great so we have spent lots of time at the pools and at the beach body surfing. Yesterday we went to Ripley's Aquarium and today we went to Brookgreen Gardens and to Huntington Beach State Park (affiliated with Huntington Beach in California) and we saw alligators in the marsh there and we also body surfed on the beach. So glad the gators stayed in the marsh and did not join us on the beach...I always say "it's better to eat lunch than be lunch!" We had dinner tonight at Senor Frog here in Myrtle Beach---that's two Senor Frogs in one month---2 weeks ago in the Bahamas and now here. ... read more

Well it is december now, we have been at the bucksport marina in south carolina for almost a week waiting for motor parts after she bit the bullet. Things weren't good as the part is no longer available but we found a used one. it's just 40 miles away but we are on top of it. this is a short entry as the cpu is about to die. Anxious to get moving again as the rain finally stopped, 4 days later. Still it's better than snow...... read more

Durham was a ton of fun. I just finished a thick mug of North Caroline Honey tea and bought a whole line if Burt's Bees from the factory (they're made in Durham!) The kid's mmuseum was awesome. my little and baby cousins went ga-ga over the static electricity exhibit. The trail was tiring, I felt like we were going in circles with pine cones and acorns and maple leaves aurrounding me. The view though, was ASTOUNDING. it was pretty chilly and i felt a bit light-headed at the top mof Father Mountain in Watauga County, North Carolina. I sawvast spaces of green and farm land and teeny bustling cities though my eyes. Throngs of people were moving about, and i was watching them. It was scary, because you could fall off the bridge across to get ... read more

Somebody shoot me! Another slow and torturous day through residential areas! I can’t forget to mention the clammers and the fisherman in the skiffs. You have to slow down for each and every one of them. Some of them even fish in the channel. It’s gloomy outside and chilly due to the front but at least we are moving I guess. The landscape is beautiful. Walt and I compare it to a mix between a rugged Cape Cod and a soft islandy FL (which I guess would make sense since it’s about half way down) but the point is that’s it’s a good mix of the two areas…the best of both worlds! Our marina in Myrtle Beach is very nice (Great Dunes Resort Marina) but it’s a couple of miles from the beach so we’ll be ... read more

After being dropped off at the greyhound station by a friendly fellow travellor from the hostel we made our way to Myrtle Beach where we were picked up by our host Stevanna and her dogs. Other than the fine weather and nice beaches the rest of the town was quiet frankly one of the worst tacky tourist towns ever. We reckon it was designed to rob you of your money and sanity and to transport you to a place resembling a carnival from hell. The downtown experience came complete with an abundance of pitifully cheap T-shirts and souveneir shops, video game arcades and fake tattoo stalls manned by the predictable ensemble of colourful carni folk. Mick tried to restrain his laughter when Hayley was laying out on the sand (trying to forget her location) and was ... read more

Philadelphia was the only place we were going to on our round the world trip that we had already been to before. Our friends live just outside Philadelphia in a town called Plymouth Meeting, and as we were driving in, Elaine started to remember places she had been many times and it was all a kind of coming home feeling! We spent a long weekend in Plymouth Meeting, enjoying spending time with our friends talking about our adventures so far. It was great to be in a home again, and simple things like enjoying a home cooked meal and watching the baseball in the evenings were very much appreciated! On the Saturday, tropical storm Hanna, hit causing heavy rain and strong winds, there was even a tornado about 30 miles away (only a small one though), ... read more

Drove to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and saw 14 Mini-Golf courses on the way into town. Checked into a motel, had dinner, then walked for a night walk on the beach. There was no occasion, but people were hanging out and setting off fireworks all up the beach.... read more
