Carol is Hank’s sister and has been urging us to visit since they moved here some four years ago. We had to come all the way across the country before I found a wireless system that would send my e-mails. Now I am trying my first travel blog and hope all goes well. Below are a few of the sights we have seen along the way. Hope all is well with friends and family we have left behind. Karen... read more

Our breakfast this morning, took us to Stumpertown Coffee Roasters. When we asked for the key to the bathroom, it came with own personal security system. A full size duck decoy was attached to the key. There is no sneaking out with that key. We then walked over to the Portland Farmer's market. The market was great. We found lots of interesting items for sale and interesting people buying them. We stumbled upon a great irish band, Circling Hounds. They were playing on the stage in the international food section of the market. We spent a lot of time looking at jewerly, clothes, and other market items. I purchased a beautiful fused glass pendant and a hat. After a few hours at the market, we decided to head over Keller Fountain. Keller fountain is a ... read more

We started today with a few prayers at the Sacred Heart Church, the local Catholic Church. We then headed to Tillamook Cheese Company for a tour and tasting. The cheese factory was not producing cheese, since it was Sunday, but we were able to see them packing the cheese and get to taste test some of their varieties. My favorite was the extra sharp cheddar. We also got ourselves some Tillamook Ice Cream, which was AWESOME! I had Udderly Chocolate Brown Cow in a waffle cone. It was choc ice cream with white chocolate swirls and choc chunks... After our dairy fix, we headed up the Oregon Coast to Twin Rocks. We skirted down a side street and got to a beach access path. At the end of the path, I saw the Pacific Ocean ... read more

I am not sure if we were really excited to sightsee today or if our motel was super scary, but we were up early and moving. I finally got a internet connection and was able to update the blog and send a few emails. After some time surfing, we headed to the grocery store to pick up some drinks and snacks. Next, we headed back to Hood River and headed to the post office to grab some postcard stamps. We asked the clerk for her recommendation for a place to eat breakfast, she said go see "Bette" at Bette's place. So a short walk later, we pulled up a stool at the counter and had a great breakfast. After breakfast we wandered thru the town and did a little window shopping before heading out. Our ... read more

Woke up well rested. Katrina & Josh’s friends were visiting on vacation. We all went to the science museum, OMSI, except for Elan & Eric who did not want to see the Body Works 3 exhibit. The rest of us had a good time and the exhibit was very interesting to see. Got home and had a snack then Elan & I hit the road. We decided to head west towards Tillamook. Drove slowly and enjoyed the scenery. We toured the Tillamook Creamery, had some ice cream, bought some cheese and then headed up the coast. Little towns along the way were very picturesque. The coast was absolutely beautiful. Some of the areas reminded me of the east coast when I drive up to Camp. We found a motel in one of the places. The ... read more

not sure what happened when I was putting all the lost blogs back up but this is the rest of the entry from UT to AK... Day Five, Monday, July 2, 2007 Back on the road again, traveling with my son again, he’s in the driver’s seat again… He says I had a chance to drive and I failed; guess I just could not go fast enough. Of course the fact that it was night and one could not see too far ahead has nothing to do with it? We are on our way north again toward Salt Lake City, UT. Going through desert with mountains around us. This car, Honda Civic, is quite nice for traveling in, lots of leg and headroom. We haven’t had too much construction on the road either or too much ... read more

As we continue preparations for our departure, we are sad to report the loss of a very important member of our family. As many of you know, "little baby" has been with us for over two years. Camille was very excited to bring "little baby" along with us on this grand adventure. This past Saturday, at approximately 3:45, "little baby" was attacked by a set of wild dogs. This happened while we strolled the streets of Bend, Oregon. As we were saying our goodbyes to my sister Jackie and her husband Alex, "little baby" suffered what I am sure was a hideous death. Thank goodness for Bambini of Bend. After discovering the grizzly remains of our "little baby" we immediately rushed off to sooth Camille's aching heart. While the attachment is not quite as strong as ... read more
