On the way to Medford, Oregon, we stopped at Oregon Coast Community College., I met with Jane, Director of Career and Technical Education. This college is located just past "Aquarium Bridge" near the famous Newport Aquariam. Many years ago we visited Willie the whale before he was shipped to Greenland. These was the last day of meandering down the highway looking at the beauty of the coast. We stopped wherever we felt that we wanted to, there was no hurry it was less then 200 miles and we had over 8 hours to get to the conference. Yesterday we made the trek north to Newport. We'd been there a couple of summers ago, but wanted to revisit the Rogue Brewery as well as take a closer look at the town. Got there about 3pm and had to go in the brewery to see if we could park in their lot overnight. Of course we had to sample a little something :) Then we drove the car down to the historic bay area. We picked up some oysters and some tuna right off the boat...as we walked up to the boat, there was a woman buying a tuna. As Glenn was checking out the situation, he asked me if I could eat 12 lbs of tuna (the weight of the fish the woman was purchasing)...she thought he was asking her, and she said she ... read more

Day 8 already! Another sunny day - we have really lucked out with the weather. Although, the coast was cool and windy all day - I finally had to plug in the heated vest! The day started with breakfast at Samoa Cookhouse on Samoa Island. We ate there last year as well and it is a very neat place - the actual cookhouse for the Samoa Logging Co. many years ago. It is a fixed price and you eat what they serve - today was french toast, scrambled eggs and sausage. Delicious and great atmosphere. We left Eureka around 9:00am and worked our way up the coast stopping in Crescent City, taking a detour through the Discovery Drive to see the Redwoods - this is a 15km stretch of narrow highway deep in the Redwood forest ... read more

Truth be told, ever since we came back from India in December, we have not been out traveling anywhere. I think using photographs and video's may be a cheat. It's harder to describe something when you know you can just relay on photos and videos but that's okay. I will do my best for you. My mother and I decided that the 28th would be a good day to go out to the Aquarium. Which is in Newport. Looking up the directions we discovered that there is a Toledo, OR. This is funny to me as most of my family comes from the East and specifically parts of Ohio. I've spent a lot of time there growing up. Though if you think about it there is also a Newport, CA in Orange County California.
