This morning was a slow wake up with excitement to be building in yet another city that I love and means so much to me! We had breakfast upstairs where it was a bit cooler and of course had coffee! We then were ready to have our "butts in seats" of the cars at 7:30 like the leaders requested, however they were meeting and we got into the cars a few minutes later after a quick debrief about the local Habitat we would be working with today. Instead of building, we would be doing a demolition! Woot woot! We arrived at the house and from the outside looking in, it looked like it was in decent enough shape. The site supervisor Trevor have us some history on affordable housing in the area--housing becoming more and more ... read more

Sweat drips, sun burns, ready Like engine pistols, we pump Ride on, pump, we ride ************************************************* Sleeping in a bed? And well rested? Is that what this feels like? My how nice to be normal! Waking up in a bed and then having home cooked breakfast on the morning of riding my bike to one of my favorite cities—does life get much better than this?! Sarah and I got dressed and enjoyed eating an egg & sausage with apples casserole with Molly and it was so good we got the recipe! The coffee was also on point so we didn’t hesitate to go for seconds on both! In the haste to get out the door & fill my camelbak quickly, I ended up with a leak and got myself & the floor & pack all soaked ... read more

Friday morning when I went to break camp at Sunshine, I unfurled my extra long sewer hose, connected it to the sewer gate, and tried to connect it to the hole in the ground. No hole. WTF? I was on a site that had no sewer? I looked around and none of the sites had sewer holes. It seems a honey wagon comes around twice a week and empties your holding tanks. I would not be there. Not really a big deal, just inconvenient. I finished breaking camp and looked for the campground map I received at registration to direct me to the dump station. No map……right, I spilled my coffee on it and threw it away. Ok. Ask neighbor. One right turn and one left turn later, as directed, I ended up in the kiddie ... read more

Weather was perfect started around 15 degrees and increased to about 23. Not a cloud in the sky. Got up early around 7am and had small breakfast of Special K with berries, strawberry greek yoghurt a banana and OJ. Left around 8.30am and we headed off on route 526 and then route 17 on our way to Wilmington, North Carolina. Still not totally used to Mr. Tom Tom. It does give clear directions but I like to see the overview of the route being taken as this morning it seemed to be taking a slightly route different to the one I envisaged. Nothing major as we just used the Google Maps on Kerry’s new smart phone to show the route and make sure we did not get lost ! 292 km total driving today for around ... read more

Sunset in Wilmington

January 2 2014 to March 3 2014. The trip in pictures. It was kind of unusual not writing a blog this year. There were a number of reasons; it ended up being a good decision as this year I had mega trouble with getting a good wifi signal with any regularity. I am in Myrtle Beach now, I will be home in 2 days. I have a wonderful (free) wifi signal and have been sorting out my pictures. I post them in this blog with descriptions as best as I can. Enjoy. See you next year. Kat Out.... read more
