My contract at Children's Healthcare of Atlanata was extended last December 2013 until October 30, 2014. It has been an amazing time in my life that is coming to an end. This has been my home for 26 months. I will never forget it and have friends that will forever be a part of my life. I do not know where my next contract will be. This adventurous life can test you sometimes...all will work out as God wants it to. Ken and I spent the summer in Asheville, NC in the RV (I flew in and out of Asheville to Atlanta), enjoying the summer with our granddaughter Lola, our son Jason and his girlfriend Amy. Now we are headed to Asheville for one last weekend and then will begin our drive across the country in ... read more

We arrived in Asheville around 4pm and went straight to Rutledge Lake RV Park, the same place we spent the summer. It's a beautiful park, just some weird managment quirks that can be easily overlooked. We set up and I left to go to the grocery. Jason, Amy and Lola will come over at 5 for a little happy hour (and to catch up) before going out for dinner. I bought some cheese, crackers, olives, mozzarella balls, juice, beer and wine. I also bought a 'Birthday' balloon and a 'Southern Living' magazine for Amy. I bought her a subcription (and another one for myself!). It's so good to see everyone. We went to Pomodora's, a local Italian Restaurant a few miles away. We came here often last summer and has become a favorite. I asked for ... read more

The forecast for Thursday, October 31, 2013 called for steady showers for the better part of the day. My site at the Kentucky Horse Park Campground in Lexington KY was pretty level so I decided to get the Pilgrim hooked to the truck on Wednesday late afternoon. There’s normally thirty minutes, give or take, of outside tear-down work, and I’d rather not have to drive for six hours soaking wet. All that was left outside for Thursday morning was pick up my electrical cord and check my vehicle lights. The rain held off until I had been on I-75 for about fifteen minutes. It never rained exceptionally hard but was hard enough to necessitate the use of the windshield wipers for most of the drive. There are two things that will annihilate turning leaves – rain ... read more

After a work week in Atlanta, Ken picked me up at the Asheville airport. We kept our routine and went to Avenue M for dinner. We usually get the scallop special, but it came with grits this week (each week they have a different variety), so we got the roasted chicken dinner and split it. We both got a salad. There was a family of 5 (mom, dad, 3 boys) in a booth near us. I should be used to seeing kids at restaurants out of control, no manners but it still is disturbing to me. Is this part of the new generation? No discipline, no respect, no manners, do what you want. So sad to me. We enjoyed our dinner and headed back to the RV. It was cold. I love this fireplace in the ... read more

My flight doesn't leave until 5:40 from Asheville so we didn't have to set the alarm. I did get up before the girls and took my shower. Lola woke up and was upset that I wasn't still in bed so she could join me so I crawled in her bed to snuggle a bit. We are not sure if we will see the girls again before Christmas so I can feel the blues sneaking in. After breakfast we packed up and loaded the truck. I want to take some pictures for Christmas cards so we will look for a nice outdoor space on our way back to Bryson City. It's another beautiful day. We found a nice spot along the Tuckasegee River. We got some good pictures. It was time to say goodbye....hate this part. Ken ... read more

I slept in; still have a nasty cough and runny nose-but honestly I'd sleep in even if I was feeling great! When you get up at 5:30 each work day and work 10 hour days, sleeping in is such a treat! We had our breakfast then decided to go to Trader Joe's. We are moving to a campground in Cherokee, NC for the next 10 days. The town of Cherokee is very limited in stores so I want to get a few things in Asheville before we head out: apples, strawberries, lemons, garlic, onions, green beans, romaine, canned diced tomatoes, turkey breast slices, Swiss cheese, fresh ground turkey, fresh chicken breasts, frozen shrimp and cod. We go back to the campground and pack up. We will be back here in about 10 days. When we made ... read more

Geo: 35.5984, -82.5531Spent the day at the Biltmore Estate. This is the Vanderbilt's 179,000 sq. ft. estate. It was started in 1889 and completed in Dec, 1895. It is unbelievable. We we then did a little wine tasting at the estate, and then headed to the campground.Heading to the Smokey Mountains tomorrow. We will see how far we can get with the government shutdown......arrrrrr.... read more

We definitely slept in! After tea, coffee, toast and egg whites we took showers. Our goal was to go exploring but honestly we felt so sick we decided to take it easy and stay at the campground. We had dinner reservations at 'The Admiral' so we did venture out for that. I had an arugula salad, Ken had a baguette/butter and we shared Mahi, cauliflower and asparagus. After returning to the RV Ken went to join his friends for a drink, I just wanted to rest. This is a nasty cold or whatever it is! We watched some baseball and then went to bed. Saturday- our usual routine, but today we must get out for awhile! We head to the 'True Nature Country Fair' (a celebration of life in connection with the earth). I'm not sure ... read more

We woke up to the 7am alarm...sleepy girls. Pops brings Lola back in bed with us for more snuggles and a few snoozes on the alarm. It's chilly in the morning in the mountains, fall is in the air for sure. The leaves are starting to change. In a few weeks this place will be so colorful. Everyone got up and dressed. Ken and Lola cooked the bacon and eggs outside on the grill while I made oatmeal inside. After a hearty breakfast, I packed a lunch and we headed to 'Asheville Outdoor Center'. I always do my homework by researching places. Especially with the girls- I want it to be safe....and beautiful. This company offers canoeing, kayaking, tubing and paddle boarding. We are going kayaking. We arrived a half hour early per their request. You ... read more

We got up around 7:30. Ken had coffee and I had tea. He had whole wheat toast and I had egg whites; we both had orange juice. Ken put up strands of Halloween lights. We want it be festive for the girls. We made reservations to go kayaking on Saturday on the French Broad River. Bella is bringing a friend and we will need her mother to sign a release for kayaking. We make phone calls to arrange where we can meet her. She works at the Harrah casino in Cherokee- the same place April works. So we drove there and met her there so she could sign the release and April met us there too so she could sign the releases for Lola and Bella. Then we headed to the girls house, trying to beat ... read more
