... read more

Welcome to the Marriage of Margaret (92) and Jesse (93) So My grandmother is getting married. My Family has a tendency to get married more than once. My dad's mom upped everyone's record to 5 marriages. She just kept outliving them all. So tomorrow is my grandma Margaret's marriage to Jesse. They've already been on TV, according to the local florist. A local newspaper reporter will also be in attendance. Now, there wasn't enough room to invite all the people from her apartment building, so she got them a GIANT wedding cake to eat at lunch time. On a more scandalous note, even when she was married to my grandpa Wilfred, they slept in separate twin beds. Well, ladies and gents, she gave those to two of her great grandchildren and put a QUEEN size bed ... read more

Doin' a little back-dating here ... while leaving ashevegas was a bit wild, I just wanted to take a moment and apologize to the people I didn't get to see, to the people I never saw at all, and to those I did but then left abrubtly. But don't worry kids, the karma came back and bit me - in the finger. In the car door. Which sucked. And ... continues to suck, but fortunately there seems to be considerable nerve damage so I'm not in any real pain. Nonetheless, my typing skills are carrying me through and there'll be plenty more bloggish prose to come - despite whether or not my middle finger is inevitably amputated (not to fret, I still have my other one and appropriate birds can still be flown). Meh ... not ... read more

The irony is not lost on me as I sit here, 2 -3 hrs from home, finally finding the campsite experience I sought the length of the summer. With wine in my hand, my husband on my right, my best friend on my left, and a fire at my feet; I sit before a beautiful flowing bold river which makes that special kind of music that only rushing water can. If you are wondering where I stuffed the kids, the cable here works and they got a bit of that and then it was to bed while we enjoyed the night, the water, and each other. The campgrounds only amenity is the river but it sits on a beautiful stretch of the French Broad River and that is enough for Ed and I. The kids are ... read more

On our way back from Myrtle Beach, Manny planned a stop in Asheville, North Carolina, a place we had repeatedly wanted to stop in over the years of driving between Florida and Ohio. Now the schedule and budget permitted for it to be done right, so we did it. Albemarle Inn Asheville's only Four Diamond AAA Bed & Breakfast, there were in fact fewer choices than we had expected in Asheville, seems as though the Biltmore Estate absorbed all of the lodging niceties for the area. We stayed in the Royal Hideaway, which even at mid-week rates was still our most expensive B&B yet. The location was right, the view okay, and the house well cared for and well-done. Highly recommended as a place to stay if in town, a little bit more of a mill ... read more

I am back in Florida. I've been back since May 3rd. I made it to Asheville NC, Wilkesboro NC, Johnson City TN and Nashville TN before I had to head back. My mom had a stroke. She is doing ok. She has been in a rehab facility since the 10th of May. Hopefully she will be well enough to go home soon. After Starr SC, I went to Asheville to see my cousins and my Aunt Mildred. I ended up spending all my time with my Aunt. She doesn’t drive, so I drove her around to do her errands and she took me to lunch each day. We had a great time together. One day we went to this fabulous fish house, Coach House, either in Black Mountain or very near it on old highway ... read more

We've finally made the big move down here to Asheville from Doylestown. We've been climbing, running, and just general frolicking. The website is also finished so check out more about my running around the world here. Oh, we've also been looking for jobs that don't suck the life from our souls. We moved here immediately following my race in Egypt - 150 mile/7 day run across the Sahara. The race contained epic bits but nothing too impossible. The daily temps were recorded at 140 degrees. During our first night out, some tentmates were joined by an interesting visitor, something called a camel spider. One person said it was called that because it kills camels. Yikes. Egyptians have, as a culture, be... read more

10 days until I leave for Argentina. Sitting in my grandparents kitchen waiting for a snow storm that is slow to come. I have purchased 8 books in the past days. Inspirational books. Books that will encourage me to keep on with this crazy journey. I am surrounding myself with a new set of friends. Hoarding like a squirrel.... read more

Leaving Atlanta, we drove through South Carolina where we were amazed by the fall colors and into North Carolina. We stayed in the small(ish) Appalachian town of Asheville on the edge of the Great Smoky Mountains. As it was tour leader Fitz's birthday, we spent most of the night in a Irish pub called "Jack of the Wood", enjoying a live bluegrass jam (lots of banjos, mandolins and guitars) and decent real ales.... read more
