Home for us is a 14-acre farm in the Appalachian mountains of Western North Carolina, in the United States. We live in a cove under a mountain at the end of a dirt road. On a summer day you don’t hear anything but the bugs bumping against your windows, and birds chirping, and children squealing. It’s very green at our house. It looks like the jungle, only not quite. Crazy children run around everywhere. Most of them are related to us in some way. We have two puppies. We talk about them a lot. Sometimes they smell like stinkle. When we leave them, we will all cry voraciously. Last night we went on a tour of our town in a purple bus. A man dressed in a nun’s habit accosted us on a 10-foot high bicycle. ... read more

Fjell? Bjørnen lot ... read more

I took the dogs for a walk down in Asheville's River Arts District. Coco and Spike like to go for walks with me in the River Arts District. In fact they like to go for walks anywhere I take them. So sunday we decided to go for a walk in Asheville's famous and notorious River Arts District. We arrived in Asheville in 2005, right after Hurricane Katrina and opened our gallery down there. At the end of 2006 we moved the gallery to Biltmore Village. I like taking the dogs down there on Sundays b/c it is usually pretty quiet. They opened a brewery down there in the Wedge building and I had wanted to check it out. I told Christin I was "taking the dogs for a walk", which she loves to hear b/c then ... read more

I decided to walk around and take some nice pictures around Biltmore Village. Things are realy looking nice around the village. went down the street to visit the Village Wayside folks. They just opened their restaurant. Well, we now have a bunch of great restaurants down here in the village, and the Village Wayside is the newest addition. People have been stopping into the gallery from all over the United states. One of our collectors sent us some photos last week of all the glass pieces, they had purchased from us, in their house. I really enjoyed seeing the photos. ... read more

I took my mountain bike out on a nice day to ride around downtown Asheville. I decided to take some pictures of things that caught my attention. Christin, my girlfriend, and our friend from New Orleans, Rachel, had dropped into a book exchange a couple of weeks ago that they were just raving about. It is called "Battery Park Book Exchange and Champagne Bar". We went over their last night. Christin picked out a red sparkling wine " S.S. Steele, Sarah Bubbles" and a big plate of different cheeses. We found a nice section near the 'Art' books with some comfortable leather couches and really enjoyed ourselves. We spoke with the owners, and realized that they also own the Jazzy Giraffe, down in Biltmore Village. I was very impressed with the decadent luxuriousness of the Book ... read more

Update: Biltmore Village, Asheville and Art in the Paris of the Appalachian Mountains Well, We made it back from our travels to Argentina and New Orleans last year. The construction was still going on in Biltmore Village for the rest of 2008, and as the construction died down we were visited by two Plagues: FIRST by the 'Great Gas Shortage' caused by a hurricane knocking out refineries in Texas, which shut down Western North Carolina for nearly a month during the peak of the Tourist season. THEN as we started to get gas back into the gas stations the 'Great Recession' hit. I guess when it rains it pours. It is early Summer of 2009 now The neighborhood is settling down. url= http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&client=firefox-a&channel=s&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&hs=Z... read more

New Zealand So I wanted to write a bit about my trip to NZ, mainly to pass along basic info on the trip to others, but also to put down some thoughts stuck in my head. I've had this itch....an itch to travel...an itch to get out completely alone and test my own sanity. Something about new people, places, and experiences has been pulling and pushing me to act on this "itch." With a couple of years of college under me the timing seams perfect. I'm burnt out on the usual and need a release. So the real question was, "where the hell to go?" I contemplated staying in the States, Asia, and Europe, but ultimately ended up with New Zealand. I have always seen pictures and heard stories about NZ and never really thought living ... read more

Recently took my first visit to the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina. The Biltmore was originally constructed in 1895 by George Washington Vanderbilt. The Estate at its height included 125,000 acres. Now it includes 8,000. Much of the previous land is now a part of Pisgah National Forest. It still includes the house, the stables, Deerpark, Lionel Crest, a winery, Riverbend Farm, gardens, guest homes, servant homes, trails, a village, gift shops, a gatehouse, a farmers' cottage, and wildlife. The house itself has 250 rooms spread amongst 4 floors. The basement houses an indoor swimming pool, a bowling alley, a gym, dressing rooms, kitchens, and pantries. There's an indoor winter garden, an intercom system, a grand staircase, bedrooms, a banquet room, a library, a music room, an organ, batchelors' quarters, a billiards room, a gun ... read more
