One building looks like it is flipping you the bird, and another looks like a penis This summer we decided to spend our vacation in Canada. But since we could save a lot of money on flight tickets by going to Newark in New Jersey instead of going directly to our destination, we ended up spending some time in the United States as well. We like the USA so we just saw it as a bonus to be able to spend some time in New York State in the beginning and in Pennsylvania in the end of the trip. We will get back to Pennsylvania and New York City in a later blog entry. In this we will write a little about two cities in New York State, namely Albany and Buffalo. When we woke up today we found there was finally no road workers in place out the front of the hotel and I was pleased Kerry had a great nights sleep. This hotel has been a great place to stay in Burlington, but today it is time to move on and we are traversing Route 100 south along the Mad River Valley which is a famous Vermont Scenic Byway, and yes the Mad River is the correct name ! First stop was the village of Wakefield to see the covered bridge where they have a live webcam we have been watching on You Tube for the last 5 years as the seasons roll by seeing the fall colours of the trees, the snow arriving, the river freezing and then the river melting where a cascade of ... read more

Albany - Part of road trip with https://www.heygo.com/aaronandpatrick? One of the first things you notice about the city is its architecture. The architecture of Albany, New York, embraces a variety of styles of from the early 18th century to the present. The city's roots date from the early 17th century and few buildings survive from that era or from the 18th and early 19th century. Albany's initial architecture incorporated many Dutch influences, followed soon after by those of the English. Over the past four centuries, Albany has grown from a small Dutch settlement into New York State's Capital City. The architecture was definitely a mix of modern with its stunning Empire State Plaza, and grand buildings like the Romanesque style city hall opened in 1883. So many beautiful bui... read more

"GèreMène" ... read more

Our excitement for our trip has been dulled by the news that our ship, Oceania’s Insignia, had a fire in their engine room which caused the death of 3 crew people on December 11th. This in turn caused the cancelation of the current cruise and another one scheduled before ours. Of course, the priority is for the families of the deceased and the return home of the passengers who had to be evacuated. We just don’t know at this point what our status is in relation to the planned cruise. We will wait and see…... read more

Geo: 42.6514, -73.7553 We are finishing Day 2 in Albany, NY. Gorgeous day. 77 and blueskies. Perfect. We started at Maid of the Mist. I was forewarned to start out early to miss the crowds and lines. We in fact missed the lines. The ride was amazing. I always wanted to go on the Maid of the Mist. It was really a breathtaking experience. We passed the American Falls first which are smaller but no less amazing. The boat then takes you right into the mist of the Horseshoe Falls. It is like being in a torrential rainstorm. Super fun and super cool. The kids loved it. They each have water cameras. There will be a lot of the same pix of Mist. Ha. Then we hiked over to the Cave of the Winds though there ... read more

Demain on prévoit passer les 7 autres ... read more

Today I am in Albany, New York. Albany is known mostly as the capitol of New York State, and not a conventional travel destination. It’s a place people pass through on the way somewhere else. Still, I’m in Albany for the day, and want to find something to do. As it turns out, Albany does have at least one thing worth seeing. It’s the large legacy of two men, architect Le Corbusier and former Governor Nelson Rockefeller. Le Corbusier and the International Style Le Corbusier was a Swiss architect who worked in France for four decades starting in the 1920s. Along with Walter Gropius and Lugwig Mies van der Rohe, he created the url=http://www.solarflarestudios.co... read more

July 6, 2010 Schenectady Yacht Club Schenectady, NY The journey goes on. The Marilsnick has been underway now for almost four months. Finally I am beginning to relax. With a familiar crew the adrenaline I put out during docking definitely has decreased. Yesterday was our last day on the Hudson River. The green banks floating by us for hours and hours were not boring but relaxing. A gentle breeze from the bow made the temperature, which was in the nineties tolerable. The trip from the marina in Rondout Creek to Coeymans was comfortable except for docking. I had to accomplish it by going against the stream, stern in and into a very narrow space. Fortunately I had good help.. In Coeymans, a village obviously founded by Dutch immigrants, a wonderful mechanic checked the Marilsnick’s electric system ... read more

We travelled in comfort from Wappinger Falls to Albany. Art and Gillian decided to drive us up so they could see our friend Ronnie who they hadn't seen in a long time. It was a nice drive up through Rheinbeck, where Chelsea Clinton just got married, and cross country to New York's state capital. They stayed with us for lunch before heading back home. During our stay in Albany we were also visited by a mutual friend, Hugo, who we had the pleasure of meeting up with in Istanbul last year. Oh, the life of the jet set!!!!!!!!! Ronnie was kind enough to let us stay with her for 10 days before she heads back to Argentina. It was wonderful having a base for such a long time and we often took day trips out together. ... read more
