This evening we (meaning Sean, Emi, Richie, Lauren, Dad, Uncle Mo, Mo's friend Shelly, Emil, and Pop-pop) went to an Isotopes baseball game!!! It was pouring rain when we arrived and we had a rain delay for a while so the game didnt start until REALLY late! But during the delay we got to watch the Olympics opening ceremony on the big screen TVs around! We ate hotdogs, and cotten candy, and Dip-n-dots...it was great!... read more

Drove and Drove and Drove yesterday. TEXAS is a hugh state and I thought we would never get to New Mexico. Well, we got our first ticket......$175.......In Texas you must exit the travel lane next to a stopped emergency vehicle, even if it is an unmarked Tahoe and there is an 18 wheeler in the other lane. Mike did get out of the lane , but not fast enough. After we got our ticket he pulled someone else over who passed us. Oh well I had 3 tickets budgeted into our trip....I know how Mike likes to go fast. Well, I found a campground that was PERFECT...see my photo's. ... read more

Wow! Today went by really quickly too as I got up around 6:30am, crawled off my bed that I had sunk into during the night, and drug myself over to the KOA bathroom to put in my contacts and freshen up. I hit the road by 7:00am only to find that right when I hit I-30, a big accident had just occurred and traffic was pretty backed up for about 40 miles. It was bumper to bumper traffic, even after I stopped at a small gas station to fill up and grab a cup of coffee. Driving into downtown Dallas with cars constantly surrounding me was a bit of a nail-biter but at least it wasn't raining :). I even snapped a quick picture of downtown Dallas from the interstate as I listened to the local ... read more

We stayed in Durango to visit the Mesa Verde National Park. This is a pre-Columbian site where the pueblo people farmed the land (the mesa) on top and lived in their protected settlement below their farmed land. As usual the National Parks service did an exemplary job in explaining the site to the visitors.... read more

So here I am back in hot, dry, brown NEW MEXICO! Im whiter then my entire family...who have been beautifully tanned in Mexico this summer, and I am quieter...what? quieter? ha. ha. NOT! So Tom iska and Hanna aiti palenius picked me up from the Ahti house this morning and drove me to helsinki. We ate my last ruisleipa sandwhich, and pulla and TRIPPI in the airport, and stuffed eight bars of Fazer sininen into my already overstuffed suitcase! After escaping and tricking the "russian" woman working at check-in, and getting through security with my rotary blazer FULL of those crazy pins, I took my last picture with my cell phone of a real stuffed reindeer in stockmanns. I rolled my carry-on over to the one empty seat near my gate and sat down next to ... read more

Day 18 July 21 Colorado Springs to Ruidoso We drove to Ruidoso. Very uneventful except for a stop at a roadside park where I found a cell phone. I called the listing for Mom and mailed it to her so she could send it back to her son who was on his way to take his wife to a doctor in Mexico. It felt so good to get back to Ruidoso. They had a lot of rain so everything was very wet. For several days we just laid around except for a trip to Alamogordo to see Journey to the Center of the Earth in 3D. It was a lot of fun. We also went to The Annual Ruidoso Art Show and saw a lot of interesting works. Saturday, July 26, we drove to Dallas to ... read more

I just wanted to add something and kind of get used to this whole thing before I go. I am sooo excited that I sometimes think that this trip I am taking is going to be just another one of those that I take to California for a few weeks. I guess it still hasn't really sunk in yet. It has it moments too- I will feel almost overwhellmed and then I won't feel like I am going at all. Well the fact is that I am jubuliant about this whole thing and I am almost ready to go right this minute... Well, almost. I'm in my pajamas! Well I do hope that you enjoy my entries when I write them because you cared enough to read this. :)... read more

This was my first back packing trip! I was told I was not allowed to use the term "Death March", so I won't! Actually I had a great time and saw some beautiful country and wild life. The trip started about 1 mile North of the Cowles camp ground and ended at the camp ground. We hiked in on Friday and back out on Sunday. I'm sure it was an easy hike for my buddy Curtis but by the time we reached Stewart Lake, I was done! But, needless to say, it was well worth it. I can't wait to go back. Maybe next time, we'll go up to Lake Katherine. We couldn't have asked for better weather. The light, on again off again rain made the trip up as pleasant as you could want. Nice ... read more
