It is Sunday and it is raining, after several sunny days. This is a good time to put together a blog. We have been to many beautiful places, so I will try to show you several of the best. Spring has finally arrived in New Mexico and everything is bursting forth. 1. Beginning in Santa Fe, we have been to many art galleries along Canyon Road. We could only take pictures outside so here are several. And yes, I did buy some silver jewelry, but tried to keep it down. Jewelry is the ONLY thing I can buy now, because the car is loaded! We also did several hikes into the mountains above Santa Fe. 2. The Los Alamos area is on high mesas. We went last Monday, but the museum was closed. We are going ... read more

Jim and I have done the museums, shops and gallaries in Santa Fe. Jim did ride his bike today and we will do some back street riding, but mostly we are walking everywhere around town. Fortunately our casita is not far from the Plaza. This is not a good biking town due to narrow, busy streets. The mountains are beautiful and varied. Our neighbors in the casita next to ours were John and Martha Beechler from Michigan. We did become friends, having dinner and hiking with them last week. We went to Bandelier National Monument the ancestral village and cliff dwellings of the pueblo indians still in this area. Alas, John and Martha went home. We like Santa Fe, but it is time to get out of town! This week we continue to hike and travel ... read more

The cacti were just beginning to blossom when we left Arizona. Traveling across southern Arizona and New Mexico there were waves of wildflowers. But as we climbed from Green Valley's 2900 feet to Santa Fe's 7000 ft., late spring turned to very early spring. We continued on past Santa Fe and arrived in Taos at 7pm. We explored that town, Taos Pueblo and Taos Ski Valley. The snow base was estimated by 2 skiers to be either 60 or 100 inches deep even on April 2nd. The mountains there are 12 and 13,000 ft. high. Taos Ski Valley was to close on April 10th. The drive back to Santa Fe was breathtaking, traveling through Indian and Spanish towns in the center of the mountains . Our casita in Santa Fe is small but is very lovely ... read more

October 25, Monday This another driving day. We drove from Taos to Santa Fe to Pecos. We wanted to do a section of the Santa Fe Trail, so we were sort of backtracking here. We spent the night in Las Vegas, (not Nevada, Las Vegas) New Mexico. We found a nice little Spanish restaurant, got to a movie and that was it for the day. October 26, Tuesday New Mexico On the road again to Fort Union, then we spent the night in Raton, an old coal town that has sort of gone down the tubes. We rented a video at the Wal-Mart, got our pictures developed, picked up some more supplies. We even found a Carnegie Mellon Library! October 27, Wednesday Capulin Volcano, NM Drove a “Bob road” - all day. The first stop was ... read more

October 23, Saturday Be gentle with the earth DALAI LAMA After showers, breakfast, and working on the internet, we’re now on our way to Taos. Our stop at Chimayo and Truchas was interesting, but.... We found an RV park right on Highway 68, visited the Indian Drum Store, where they hand make drums, St. Francis of Assisi had a wonderful church in the town. A bike shop, The Gearing Up Shop in Taos a neatplace - just so many shops and galleries. We learned about the balloon rally in Taos, so we drove to Albright Field, where there were just four balloons lighting up at dusk. It was quite interesting, but it was also much ado about nothing. We went back to the campground and got to bed a little bit earlier, because we wanted to ... read more

After getting up at Bandolier Campground, we went up to the Visitor’s Center and decided to take a little bit of a hike out to the cliff dwelling and the kivas. Actually, we were getting a little tired of cliff dwellings and kivas, but this particular place was quite interesting and worth the extra effort. We climbed up ladders to see the homes and the petroglyphics and the kivas. The rock is known as swiss cheese because of the holes, and the paths and trails were very well maintained, so it wasn’t a very difficult hike. It was quite interesting and also a little bit different. On we go to Santa Fe. Continuing, Thursday, October 21, we got to the Visitor’s Center at Santa Fe and located an RV campground right on Cerrillos Boulevard, parked ... read more

October 17, Sunday Durango, CO We drove to Durango, stopped at the café, caught up with the Internet, and walked around Durango, Colorado’s Moab??? There were lots of outdoor shops along the San Juan River. Today was sort of a catch-up day, so we did our grocery shopping, stayed at a Mom & Pop campground and had a nice breakfast the next morning at Sonya’s. Bob got a call from a friend of his, Dan Mourer, who was out hunting in the west; but we weren’t able to connect. We just seemed to miss each other. October 18, Monday Farmington, NM After breakfast at Sonya’s, in Farmington, we managed to get our mail at the post office. Thank you, Cherie! Drove back to the Aztec and Salmon Ruins. The Aztec was a New Mexico Museum and ... read more

Flickr Set: Arizona / New Mexico I suppose I should write about my most favorite place in the Southwest, how I was enchanted by the spirits of Native Americans who once lived in New Mexico or all the adventure I found. But Im going to let the pictures do the talking, because trying to explain a solo road trip where I saw few people is best left unexplained!... read more

It is somewhere in Arizona. I think. Could be New Mexico. In the middle of the desert. A few worn down houses on the slope of a hill. No people are to be seen anywhere. It's a little depressing. Why would people choose to live here? But then again, the people residing are probably thinking "why would people care to live in a city?"... The town is small, very very small, and very very remotely located. I wonder if it's big enough to have a name. But I guess it does, since the Greyhound bus stops there. It would be a bit strange to have a bus stop "you know, there in the desert, by those houses". The place reminds me very much of the little town in the movie ”Tremors”. If this town was attacked ... read more
