Wow. I am back in Albuquerque, New Mexico. I arrived back in the states one week ago today. And I got back to Albuquerque last Sunday. I'm still kind of in shock to be back. People had mentioned this to me... That there might be some culture shock upon returning--I didn't really think about it or believe that it would occur. But it is. So, I realized that I never fully explained what I was doing in Copan, Honduras. I guess it is a little late now, but I will try to explain. I am a student at UNM pursuing a BA in Anthropology and a minor in Latin American studies. Last year, I took a few art history classes on Pre-Columbian Art. My professor mentioned that she was looking for students to take to Copan ... read more

I am spending the week in an area north of Albuquerque, New Mexico. One of my favorite foods in this area is the green chile cheeseburger. People in this area make your basic cheeseburger and then smother the cheese with green chiles. I am not an expert on various chile peppers, but I love these green chiles. One of the hallmarks of New Mexico food is green chiles. I asked one of the locals here where I could find a good green chile cheeseburger (everyone here sells them - even McDonalds and Burger King). He pointed me to the Owl Cafe. This is a local chain that began in San Antonio, New Mexico (I don't know where that is). They just opened on here in Coralles. A friend and I went to lunch at the Owl ... read more

After battling heat and desolate highways, we find ourselves in Taos, New Mexico, more than 1,000 miles from our starting point. Getting through Arizona was a learning experience. For instance, did you know that Chinese buffets in Arizona include Cheetos as an entree? Or that AZ desperately needs to update their tourist motto from "Get your Kicks on Route 66"? Despite this, we got some kicks, too much sun, and a lot of flats. We spent as much of our AZ time as possible on 66- after being warned NOT to bike 4 days through "Indian Country"- or did they say "Injun"? anyway, a huge reservation with no services and non-biker friendly crowds- We hopped from the shadeless Mormon outpost of Jackrabbit (where we tried grape Gatorade for the first time- mmm) to the world's ... read more

I have been running around like a mad woman today. This morning I had my final for South American Archaeology. It went ok. I mean, after an hour and a half of writing, you get to the point where you don't care anymore. At 11:30 am, I no longer cared and turned that bitch in! Yeah! Had lunch with Bob today. It was our second goodbye eating event. I love Vietnamese food. Really, I love food in general. Bob leaves for London in less than two weeks! To get ready for our cross-country drive, Ben changed the oil in his pickup tonight. Yeah... The oil drain plug was stripped. He spent quite a bit of time looking for a new one. He finally found one, and finished up. Now we are trying to wash the oil ... read more

Took my last final today, Meteorology, ouch... Now I can devote all of my attention to my trip! I will be leaving Albuquerque on May 26th and will arrive in London on the 27th. I will be staying at the University of East London. Crashing at Mo's dorm. From there I have a week long trip to Ireland planned and then at the time of the summer solstice I will be camping at the Avebury Festival. Need to find a Red Goddess dress. What I will do with the rest of my stay, only time will tell... I have been to these places before: Visited Countries Map ... read more

I got my new credit card! I am now almost ready to go on vacation! Today Cat, Angie, and I went to Cafe O to have farewell Boba Tea. It was a new experience for me. I quite enjoyed it. The boba, of course, had to end up in my nose. Anyways, Cat leaves for CA on Friday to see a boy! Angie is getting ready to graduate and go far, far away to grad school. And I get to go play with pottery in Honduras. All in all, it should be a good summer for everyone. I am now on my way to the Student Health Center for my second Hep shot and Typhoid. Great fun! At least I can put it on my credit card....... read more
