Left Santa Fe bright and early in good spirits little did I know that this was going to be one of my “wundering what the heck I am doing days.” Lovely wide two lane highway to Espanola then I was on single lane road without a shoulder for miles on end. Still the road was quiet and the scenery was beautiful, so I plugged on, only getting nervous when a semi truck came in the opposite direction; this is when I suck in to make the motor home narrower! I was traveling along the side of the San Juan Mountains, then I started to climb first over San Antonio Peak at 10908’ then Ute Peak at a mere 10093 feet. I hadn’t had any cell phone signal from the time I got on the one ... read more

UntitledLyn C “Here the whistle blowing, All Aboard for Californiay on the Atcheson, Topeka and the Santa Fe“. Sang that over and over. On my way to Santa Fe, NM. Know I’m showing my age! I arrived in Santa Fe after a six hour drive from Deming, I enjoyed the drive which was mainly on Interstate 25. I had reserved a spot in Trailer Inn RV Resort, an older RV park with lots of trees (eeek) but they sent a guide with me and he very expertly backed me into a spot. What a difference from the past week’s peace and quiet -- I’m on a historic Route 66 and I can see a Harley Davidson dealership out of my bedroom window! Still it’s convenient and the city bus that will take me right down into ... read more

Day 24 – Wednesday – Santa Fe, New Mexico Mmmmm what a wonderful nice relaxing day. Just what we needed to revive our spirits :) We had a niiiice loooong sleep in this morning, before having a brunch at this cool little place where you selected exactly what sort of sandwich you wanted made. Must admit i've been feeling a little off color today - sore throat and blocked then runny nose (thanks John!) so the relaxing day was just what the doctor ordered. We had a bit of a look around the local shops before heading back to watch the soccer (football!) as John's team Liverpool was playing in the final against AC Milan. Unfortunately they lost 2-1 and our Aussie Harry Kewell did very little. Ah well. We then challenged J&J to a ... read more

Around The 2nd Oldest US Capital North America » United States » New Mexico » Santa Fe By Erin and EliMay 3rd 2007A few shots from around Santa Fe and our adobe abode near the Georgia O'Keefe Museum. We love this town for so many reasons, but amazing food, natural beauty, interesting friendly freaks from afar, lots of dogs, and Trader Joes top the list. Not to mention green chiles...everywhere. I wouldn't recommend eating the greenies all three meals if you want to sleep, but they are tasty. This is the only town that gets away with painting every structure brown and gets away wi... read more

We have been behind in blogging…the relaxation of the vacation has caught up to us and now we are completely and utterly ruined by laziness. Too much spa, too much wine, and definitely too much guacamole and green chiles have beat us into submission, demanding frequent siestas. Many deep sighs have melted us into the New Mexico landscape so completely that we may never be able to be productive or move again. We have had a few exciting moments though. The other morning we awoke at 4:00 AM to get ready for a Hot Air Balloon ride through some breathtaking canyons north of Santa Fe. Who know balloons flew modified contour in the canyons, but look at the pictures. Our fearless balloon captain, Johnny, picked us up and drove us to the balloon launching site ... read more

Well after many glorious days in Santa Fe, it's time to get to work on the ol' blog. Since we last posted, we've njoyed the outdoor pursuits of Northern New Mexico. One of the most beautiful high alpine forests we've seen is in Bandolier National Monument, home, some six hundred years ago to the Pueblo Indians. On an historical note, we found huge bear turds with animal hair in them which led to an intense debate about whether, when face to face with a bear, do you yell loudly to scare the bear or play dead in hopes the bear is a dumb bear. Apparently it depends on the type of bear you are faced with and the outside air temperature, but really, like I am going to go back to AP Bio and study ... read more

Symbols are cool. Symbols are imagination inspired for the writer, thoughtful movement for the philosopher, love on fire on a stallion rearing before a storm-subdued castle for the romantic novelist, The Highlander in the form of Spanish Sean Connery in front of a storm-subdued castle for the soon-to-be husband of the romantic novelist. Symbols are cool because they fire you up. There is one thing I can always think of and it will bring a small, satisfied smile to my face—not just to the lips and mouth, but my eyes perk up, my eyebrows rise knowingingly, the wardrobe door in my head creaks open and not only does C.S. Lewis peak his head out, but also Wallace Stegner, Cormac McCarthy, Willa Cather, Bruce Courtenay, yes, Nelson Demille, Robert Ludlum, Bill Bryson, Edward Abbey, Isaac Asimov, ... read more

Well, we are here, snugged into our little Santa Fe adobe abode. We are enjoying the people, guacamole, and our private hot tub...not all together, that would be very messy. Santa Fe is truly a gulp of fresh air and we are breathing in deeply and settling into relaxation mode. Ahhhhhh... Today we took a Salsa making class at the Santa Fe cooking school which was quite excellent (thanks Dad Tate and Mom Waugh) We are now completely overconfident in our culinary capabilities but our roasted tomato salsa was tops in the class, and Erin got to use our chef instructor, Rocky Durham's (real name, not kidding) knife because she couldn't handle the "big" knife. Rocky's knife is small. She felt special and inadequate at the same time. I think she blushed. We have also ... read more

18/04/07 - 19/04/07 Santa Fe and Taos Santa Fe was a beautiful change after Albuquerque - the buildings were all in apricot coloured adobe with narrow alleys of artisan shops surrounding a central plaza. In fact it was hard to buy anything except art and jewelry! In the center of the plaza stands an obelisk with inscriptions such as “To the heroes who have fallen in the various battles with savage Indians in the territory of New Mexico”. Regarding the monument text, the local authority put up a plaque that reads “Monument texts reflect the character of the times in which they are written and the temper of those who wrote them. This monument was dedicated in 1868 near the close of a period of intense strife which pitted northerner against southerner, Indian against white, Indian ... read more
