I've been on the road nearly every day... Must have driven about 3,000 miles already, mostly following Interstate 40, a road that goes through several States from Tennessee to the Californian border, lately singing "I'm on the way to Amarillo..." Crossing the northern tip of Texas I spent a day in the flat Amarillo in order to get that song out of my head. I got invited to a food exhibition there, how nice! I ate well and for free but was surprised a couple of hours later by someone asking me the reason why I was taking pictures of houses in a neighbourhood I found quite charming. I was totally unaware that is apparently a 'rough area'. As It seems, rough areas may look extremely different in different parts of the world... I was told ... read more

Ever since we returned from visiting Mike's Grandparents (Ron and Dolores) in Arizona during February of 2005, we had casually discussed meeting them in New Mexico and staying in the Santa Fe area. I was extremely interested in visiting Santa Fe due to it's fascinating historical background and also because it's one of the oldest cities in the United States. Those closest to me know the huge history buff I am; it always intrigues me and I thoroughly enjoy learning as much as I possibly can about the world that occurred before my time! So, during January of 2008, we finally decided to go. We bought our plane tickets, reserved the condo in Santa Fe, and the planning began for a trip that would occur from Thursday, April 24th to Tuesday, April 29th. Day 1 (Thursday, ... read more

This is such a powerful time of year! I hope you're all embracing the coming changes and growth as much as I am... I have a feeling it's going to be a fruitful year! We have been settling into life here... School has been SO intense for me! But in all the right ways, it is exactly what I'd been hoping for. My class is a group of 8 beautiful, diverse women, aging from 23 to 63! I wanted to share with you some pictures from an equinox bonfire we went to. It was south of town, out where the land is expansive and mountains lay along the horizons. The friends who hosted the gathering are a wonderful couple who live in a converted school bus-which is so beautifully put together! Peace and Blessings! ... read more

Posted by Onaxthiel: The Days Inn off Coors Rd. is located amidst a cluster of other hotels near I-40. There are noticeably few expensive motels in the cluster, but the Days Inn provided us with an internet connection, and was much nicer than most of the places we stay at. Under normal circumstances, the extra few dollars of cost would have bothered us, but Albuquerque was a special case. In this town we had decided to drop a pile of money that we generally would have refused to consider parting with, except perhaps at gunpoint. Even then, only if we were pretty sure the trigger man was quite desperate. This morning we were scheduled to spend $320 to go on a hot air balloon ride over the city of Albuquerque. Since usually this would pay for ... read more

It can snow here too Got about 6-8 inches in less than 12 hours. It was mostly melted by the end of the day I took the photos. I thought it was fun with all the statues, made for some interesting shots. Hope you're all doing well -bye for now! -Mike and Brit ... read more

Come visit, it's purty here Hello one and all and all the rest of you. Not much to say in this entry -just wanted to send out some new pictures. Brit started school on monday and she's already real tired but extremely excited. I've got to start cooking dinner more often - gotta feed my gal! We've been exploring the area a bit more - hikin', bikin' and ramblin' around. I broke down and bought another bike (only 20 bucks). It's a small project - an old one speed without a brand name on it. My uncle Mike gave me an idea for the next blog. Theres a guy in town who sells a bunch of old vintage bikes. He just locks them up to various posts around town with his phone number written on ... read more

Happy Picture Time !!! My cousin Marcie and her partner Michelle took us on other amazing hike. This one was six miles round trip and left us recovering for days afterward. (Like four days later I couldn't figure out why I was dragging ass - sore, tired, grumpy - and then it dawned on me; hiking 6 miles in snowshoes at 11,000 feet will affect you for awhile. So all of these pictures were taken on the Aspen Vista trail which is about 13 miles northeast of downtown Santa Fe. The drive up there was insane. Twists and turns, cliff edges, slick spots, and up and up and up. Being Michigan Flatlanders, all Brit and I could do was stare out the window with mouths agape. The snow was quite deep. I got some sort ... read more

Hittin' the Trails Our first excursion in New Mexico... This awesome landscape is nestled 40 minutes outside of Santa Fe. Kasha-Katuwe means white cliffs in the language of the nearby Cochiti Pueblo. The tent rocks have been formed by water and wind over the ages. You can check out the layers of rock on the way up, and then get a panoramic view of the surrounding tundra from the top. Even though its winter and only about 40*, its so toasty in the sun, when you're 7000 feet closer! Along the trail you can seek out little translucent brown/black stones called Apache Tears. They're beautiful, but have a sad story. They are supposed to be the tears of Apache widows, mourning the losses in a massacre of their warrior husbands. As their tears hit the ground, ... read more

Hawaii: sand, sun and not much fun So sometimes things don't work out how we imagine they might... Nine months in paradise turned into two weeks of scooping horse poo and getting eaten alive by mosquitos. The farm we were depending on was dissappointing to say the least. And Hawaii as a whole didn't mesh with our perogatives. For such a lush and beautiful place, it is saddening how much its taken for granted and mis-used. So, about a month into our journey, we find ourselves in Santa Fe, NM. And already the universe has been ultimately more open to us. We've been here only a week and we already have a place to live, a job, and a handful of promising opportunities. Mike got a job at the local co-op today (woo-hoo!) and I'm ... read more
