Yesterday was a long 380 mile drive to New Jersey, near to the RV depot in Middletown NJ. More than double the furthest we had gone in any one day before but we settled down to it and, nine hours later, arrived at Allaire State Campsite. A bit of a pit really and a sorry end to our trip, albeit the evening was spent packing and sorting out. Up bright and early this morning for the hand back to Road Bears RV. It felt quite strange handing back what has been home for the last three weeks. It has been an utterly amazing experience, exceeding every expectation. Thank you my wonderful husband for planning, paying, driving, putting up with me generally and making it such a fun, fabulous trip. Our flight is being called as I ... read more

Geo: 40.7357, -74.1724Other passengers on my flight from Richmond were visibly worried when the captain announced that there was a maintenance glitch on our flight. I knew we'd take off soon. After all, I had a 5-hour layover ahead of my in Newark. Significant delays only come when you have a tight connection. When I saw all of the people moving sidewalks here, I thought about a YouTube music video I saw recently produced by a guy when he was (mostly) alone all night in an airport terminal. I wondered if anyone would notice or care if I did something similar in the middle of the day. I decided I would just stick with writing as my expressive medium of choice. The aluminum security gates in front of Crumb seem to suggest that at least the EWR ... read more

The days before our flight were the longest nerve racking, exciting days of my life. I was about to embark on a journey only few people take, I was about to step way out of my comfort zone. Of course me being a male I waited till the day before my flight left to pack, but surprisingly I didn't forget anything important! Finally the day came February 21st. The parents and I got up early to head to Newark, New Jersey where I would begin the first leg of my journey into the unknown. Now I don't know if you ever been to Newark or New Jersey in general, but it’s an interesting place in itself. To sum up the drive and time spent in Newark I'll tell you a short experience I won’t forget... We ... read more

We are big fans of The Sopranos so we didnt think it twice while we were in New York, we rented a car and went to see some of the locations filmed around New Jersey. Well after all that stress and packing I am off! On the way up I kept thinking about one of the most popular questions i have been asked. WHY? Why now at 31 am I choosing to do this? The easy answer is why not? But there is of course a better answer. First of all throughout my twenties I thought about how lucky I was to have studied abroad in college. Sure it was alot of fun but I don't think I got as much out of it as i should have. It was more about new drinks like snakebites and studying as the nerd I was. Now I have had some time out in the world and think I could gain very much from this experience, People lately have called me brave. I don't ... read more

And so there we have it. Today is the day I leave. I made a huge thank you to all the people I met on my trip. They made it much more enriching for me. The world worth experiencing is with the people you meet. In my case, some I already knew from the internet. But I can sure say it was a privilege to meet others as well. I left my hostel at 11am after a shower. It took me quite some time to get to Newark airport, but that was fine; I allowed myself plenty of time. It’s better to arrive early and wait for ages, than to miss your flight. I took advantage of my greyhound bus pass for the final time. I basically got a free transfer to Newark, a half-hour ride ... read more

This east coast road trip has taken us 1,665 miles into adventure after adventure. I can barely believe it is already over and I am sitting at the Newark, NJ airport waiting for my flight to London. I had an amazing time with Alex. Even though I had come to help drive, Alex insisted on driving the entire way the first day. I didn't mind not driving, it was nice to be able to really soak in the scenery. The first night of the road trip, we stayed at her friend Hal's place. They know each other from when they both worked at Barnes and Nobles in Florida. Hal is starting grad school at UNC at Chapel Hill and was able to give us a bit of a tour of the campus. Chapel Hill is a ... read more
