Wow that was pretty long and intense! The flight seemed to go on forever, i watched parts of films but I just couldnt get into them as I knew at the end of the flight I would have another long one. The crew were american with the token gay attendant tanned and primped. He was very nice though. There was so much to watch, they had tv shows, films, games, music i was literally spoilt for choice. I listened to a Belle & Sabastian album which i really liked and then watched that new Adam Sandler film with Jen Aniston. It was lame, i shouldve just watched Little Miss Sunshine, i am never dissappinted with that. The flight was ok, got fed and watered very well and I managed to make a good dent in my ... read more

Yesterday was an experience...We arrived at the airport in Louisville 2 hours prior to our 11:30 am flight, only to find out that our flight hadn't been payed for! We frantically tried to work it out, but ended missing the flight. Then we spent a number of hours figuring out how to get all four of us to Newark by 0700 this morning so we could make our flight to China. Through communication with a number of Army higher-ups and running around the airport, we finally got 3 different flights worked out to get us all into Newark. After making it through the long TSA security line, we received a call that our entire China group hadn't gotten the country clearance necessary to enter China! So our travel to China has been delayed (hopefully only until ... read more

Saturday, November 27, 2010 Morning Today began with an early rise of 6:45 where I quickly hopped out of bed to turn up the heat. Austin was a brisk 20 something degrees which is fitting considering where I am going is brutally cold. It could not be a more perfect day to fly, blue skies and not very windy to start. Final packing and a cup of coffee and out the door by 8AM. Saying goodbye to the babies was hard, and I hope they don’t forget who I am or that I am not coming home….that part makes me sad, but I know they are in good hands. Jon was a sweetheart and dropped me off and we hugged goodbye as well….now the journey begins. Afternoon/Evening Just landed in Newark….wow was that a turbulent landing! ... read more

Day 1 - Sunday January 17th 2010, 7:54pm EST: I’m currently in the air on my way to Australia! First stop, LA to then board my Qantas flight to Sydney! It’s pretty boring being on a plane alone, knowing you can’t sleep or the jet lag will end up killing you! So, I took out my little mini laptop and decided to begin the blogging process! Have you ever decided to do something and then once it comes time to actually do it you realize you’re actually crazy? I began to think that as I was walking to my gate…alone! Obviously I’m excited but it is a little overwhelming to think that in about a day I will be in Sydney…alone…trying to find a place to live and a job so that I can afford to ... read more

Greetings! I’m sitting in the Newark airport right now waiting to meet up with the rest of my group. Nothing super exciting has happened yet—I rolled out of bed around 5:30 and the parents took me to good ol’ PDX. On our way out, my mom convinced me that it was indeed a good idea to take the sweet blanket that my grandparents gave me for Christmas. (I was debating earlier about taking it and had decided not to because it’s large.) But in the end, we decided to throw it in, which resulted in my bag weighing in at 53.0 pounds, and therefore the loss of a sweater and an extra sweatshirt to wear on the plane. But all is well! I also sat next to a really interesting woman on the flight. I would ... read more

Yeah. I know. But it's the closest I've come to NY so I'm making the most of it. Was not expecting the muggy weather though...I had to peel off 3 layers. Yuck. 71 degrees and 70 percent humidity. We already checked out a few shops and the fast food that this airport has to offer, I'm killing time online while Warren is off drinking a beer somewhere. I'm going to try a Nathan's hotdog before I leave. I know the rest of our trip will be much more exciting than this but I definitely want to come back and see the REAL NYC!! Again, happy halloween everybody. I'll update our first day while some of you are nursing your party hangovers. LOL =) ... read more

Greetings from Newark, New Jersey! This morning I began my travels by traveling from Oklahoma City, OK to Newark, New Jersey. When I arrived at the airport I immediately met my roommate, Rebekah, and we caught a shuttle to the hotel. Upon arriving I met our Global Ministries leaders-Julia Brown Karimu, who will be accompanying us on the pilgrimage; Robert Shebeck, who only came to introduce us to Global Ministries and send us off; and Xialong Zhu. We spent the afternoon discussing Global Ministries (ministry of the UCC and DOC) and how we will bring our experiences back to our seminaries and congregations. The priority of Global Ministries is CRITICAL PRESENCE. Relying on the leading of God's spirit and responding in faith to the challenge of an ever changing world. Critical presence is "to be timely ... read more
