While I sit as patiently as possible at the airport, I realize that I have done pretty much all that I can do to prepare for this trip. I've read books on India, studied Hindi, researched provinces I will be visiting, and brainstormed ideas to help with my placement. However, from what I have heard and read, nothing can really prepare you for India. I have a feeling that all of my current expectations will be thrown out as soon as I land. After reading and talking with people who have travelled to India, I am embarking with thoughts of landing into a mess of people and an overwhelming smell. I'm taking a 14 hour overnight flight which lands in Delhi Saturday at 8:15 pm local time (10:45 am Atlantic). Sunday we have orientation all day ... read more

A wonderful and old history, amazing culture lit, art and music a love of soccer, and even good food and drinks! what more could you ask for? This time I am off to Sweden with a lovely splash of Denmark! Every time i have told someone i am going to sweden they give me ... read more

Monkey has really been on my case about Norway, ever since last year's cruise. The nagging became completely unbearable once we got back from the Transatlantic in April. He wants to see more whales, and he's still upset he didn't get to see a puffin last year in Iceland. So, I gave in and booked us on a slightly shorter version of last summer's "Lands of Fire and Ice" cruise on board Queen Elizabeth 2. OK, I'm also happy to be going. The cruise itself is incredibly relaxing. we always meet lots great people, and monkey really enjoys when people make a fuss over him. So, here we are, sitting in the Continental President's Club at Newark New Jersey's Liberty Airport, waiting for the 777 that will fly us to London Heathrow this evening. About an ... read more

I watched a movie called “European Vacation”, when I was a kid in India. It is the comedy of a fat American family with boisterous kids who do their best to catch the flavor of Europe, but just don't know how to be good tourists. They have difficulty adapting to new cultures and cannot drive small European cars nor speak local language. After a number of encounters and adventures, they manage to successfully complete their trip. That movie showed Europe in its entirety and made such a mark on me that I vowed to visit Europe when I was older. I have always dreamt of the perfect European vacation. To spend considerable time in each place and get soaked in the history, art, literature, architechture and culture that most of the great European cities offer; as ... read more

So........................................... Here we still are. Actually we got on the plane (after runin through the airport because we were at athe lounge and they called last call for boarding). So much for the First Class lounge notifyiing us to board!! So after we ran through the airport and were half dead, we got on our plane. Veyr nice. We had our little night kits and had a glass of champagne. Kat took here xanax, Rob took his. Then they say there is a problem with the flight. So after two hours we are back in the Terminal enjoying a delicious McDonald's dinner (who wanted steak or lobster). Now they are "waiting on a spare plane." Do you have a spare?????? More to come.... read more

It is Newark, everybody. It is the 64th largest city in the US according to Wikipedia. More than half of the city population is African American. Latino or Hispanic origins accounts for a close to 30%. In 1996, Money magazine named Newark was the "most dangerous city in the Nation" but things have changed dramatically due to efforts of local government to revitalize the city. New commercial developments have arisen in the downtown areas. Here are few scenes around the city. A piece of advice about street meter parking in Newark. If you have a car and plan to park along the street, you have to identify the parking pace on the pole (letter A, B, or C, or D) and go back or forth to other pole nearby with a meter, and hit the button ... read more

World Trade Center hedder.
