Unfortunately, as we headed north into the high altitudes of the White Mountains the weather turned dull. We were also disappointed to find that high winds had blown most of the leaves from the trees so the foliage views were not as good as further south. This did not stop us from enjoying our drive up the lake and taking a mountain walking trail through the forest for a couple of pleasant hours. Four of us did a week-end hiking trip in the Presidential Range of the White Mountains. The highest and most famous peak is Mount Washington, which we did not hike. Our lead has hiked it three times already, so we decided instead to hike Mounts Webster and Jackson on Saturday, and Mounts Jefferson, Adams and Madison on Sunday. The last three mountains are especially beautiful. The beginning of the hike was in a forest, but around an altitude of 4000 feet the vegetation becomes parse and there is an excellent view to the surrounding mountains and valleys throughout. The mountaintops are all rocks, and there was scrambling on rocks to reach the peaks. We were extremely lucky with the weather, as it was very mild for September and the peaks were not obstructed by clouds. ... read more

Wow! Can't believe my last entry was back in January. Sooo much has happened since then. I settled in well to life in good old live free or die state of New Hampshire at the Sargent Center for Outdoor Education. It is the same place I worked last summer and is on the border of Hancock and Peterborough ("a very good town to live in!). I have been working as a school program instructor from January to June teaching lessons such as wildlife ecology, wetland ecology, geology, astronomy, night walks, ropes courses, pioneering, forestry to name a few! I am now working at Adventure Camp as the Trek and Camp Program Director for the summer. Although I have been working extrememly long hours I have managed a few outings during my stay here. It's funny that we tend to appreciate where we are more, when we know we are leaving, or have left and come back. I've spent my last few days in NH trying to visit those spots and see those sights that have come to be my favorites, or that have been 'spots of refuge' for me in the last 2 years. So, yes.... I know this incredible tree is dead, but there is something beautiful in a dead tree. You can see all the detail that the leaves or flowers have been hiding for so many years. Enjoy the grand summer that New England offers. Now, taking off across land and much water towards a New Zealand destination, I realize that because of a time change, Saturday, July 8th will not exist for me...crazy. eh, who ... read more

Ok so its been a few days since I have written about my travels... But in those few days I havent done a whole hell of alot! I went shooting the other day with Kirk, we shot everything from Sniper Rifles to pistols... Shootin the AR15 was great, like always... Keisha, my stepsister, and I are going to Hanover (where Dartmouth is) to pick up my step brother and go to some Art museums... Trina (my stepmom), her mother and sister are coming in today and we are having a "Step" family BBQ on Sunday... Im going cayaking, hiking and fishing with Tim the Aussie, Keisha's husband, on Monday. Then Im going shooting again on Wednesday with Kirk but this time with the semi/full auto weapons...
