Hi, Everyone Well, there is one week left before I am a Caribbeaner... AAAHHHH!!!! To keep you all posted, I have moved out of my apartment in Boston and am back home in NH. I, without a doubt, will be missing Boston, but it is nice to spend a few days at home before I leave. I only hope my Jeep holds out for another week.... So this is basically the last move before Dominica. Having said that, I have a new American number where you can all contact me free of charge - it's 617.326.7675 This number is actually through a program called Skype which allows me to talk to people over the internet. You can call me on your cell/landline (there will be charges if you call out of area code on a landline!) ... read more

My parents and I journeyed to my sister's house in Nashua, New Hampshire in September, 1987. We spent time in Massachusetts. The trip marked my first experience in New England. From Nashua, the ride down to Boston is a short one. We wasted no time getting to the suburbs of Lexington and Concord. This is where the American Revolution began in 1775. We drove by Lexington Green and proceeded along the battle route to the Minute Man statue and the North Bridge, famous for "the shot heard 'round the world." The resistance here caused the inevitable break with England. "We are standing at the heart of American history," I thought. Thoreau's cabin on Walden Pond was nearby. In Boston, we took in the Old North Church and Paul Revere's home. Two lanterns hanging in the church ... read more

Dear all, Sorry this has been a long time coming! We've kinda been away from civilisation for a while.... Anyhoo, so far so good - New York was nuts, completley crazy but lots of fun! An M&M shop with four floors...only in America! Thanksgiving parade was pretty cool and was a beautiful warm day to watch too. Couldn't go up the Empire State building though because there was no visibilty... doh! Then headed into Vermont after picking the car up, picture will follow when we have more time and can find a proper internet cafe (in a library at the moment!). Vermont gorgeous and we had snow... woo hoo! Francis got a bit cold when we made him stand in the snow to have his picture taken, in fact he's still grumpy about it! Maine was ... read more

Obfuscator writes: We left our campsite at Acadia at about 7:30 AM, and sadly the Ranger was already there to take our money. We drove to Bar Harbor one more time to take a look around in a nice sunny day, and visit the post office, before getting underway for New Hampshire once again. We drove a different way this time, to avoid going through the pothole ridden Hwy 1. This route took us past Bangor, and south to Augusta, where we stopped to take a look at the Maine State Capitol. The Maine State House is pretty from the exterior. It's not as pretty as Wisconsin's, but nicer than many we've seen. A nice lady at the front desk told us all the cool things to see inside, and so we spent about an hour ... read more

Obfuscator writes: Since we were perfectly legally camping, we wasted no time in leaving our legitimate site in the morning. (Onaxthiel adds: Yup. I woke him up at dawn for stand-to, so we'd be ready for the French and Indian attacks.) Our gear got stashed in its traditional place in the backseat, and we headed back toward some of the places we had been unable to take in the night before, namely the Falls of Lana and Silver Lake. Silver Lake was only a .6 mile hike from the parking lot, so we figured, “Why not?” It turned out to be a rather pretty lake, if somewhat unimpressive. We did find a neat spillway, or something on one end of the Lake. Nearby, we saw a sign that said that the Falls of Lana were another ... read more

Danforth Bay RV Resort in Freedom was a great place to spend a few days in October. Our campsite overlooked a peaceful lake surrounded with brilliant fall foliage. We attempted to drive up Mt. Washington, home of the “World’s Worst Weather,” according to conventional wisdom and L.L. Bean TV commercials. Alas, our first attempt failed; the road was closed halfway up due to 70 mph winds and blowing snow. We were successful the second day, as we rode the Cog Railroad instead. With steady clicks, the cog engine pushed us slowly up the mountain. Near the top, we spied a few hikers on the Appalachian Trail. The scenery had changed from fall foliage and pines to only rime ice and rocks above the tree line. Rime ice, we learned, is actually frozen fog. It takes shape ... read more

Updated: Trips - activities 26th October. NB: I'm probably going to update it whenever I remember things - there's so much, trying to keep it short _______________________________________ Ok, so here it is - this site's server crashed early August and they lost everything I had uploaded - which i got pissed about. Recently checked and its all back so it's all good. I was in the Owls cabin which are the eldest (15-16) - my co-counselors were Terry and Laura who were married and had an adjoining cabin. Terry has been at camp for 20 years on and off over the years. It was Laura's first time to camp so whenever we needed advice we would just ask Terry which was handy. There is a book written about Kabeyun called Cabin Pressure by Josh Wolk. Names ... read more

Dear Friends & Family to the west of us (that's a lot of territory!), although we are now in the beautiful White Mts. of New Hampshire, I must take you all back a few days...been busy, no wi-fi, no electricity, and looking at new vistas . From Niagara (not Viagra) Falls we drove on the NY Thruway 90 (our 1st toll road) to arrive in Syracuse, NY in time for Donna Cappellano's crosscountry meet. First we took a lovely hike on a tow path at Weedport. Try to imagine the commerce of the time needing canals to transport goods to factories by mules. I kept looking for Sal. Donna and her team emerged from the bus and she invited us to walk the course with them as a warm up (for them) and a good stretch ... read more

The majestic White Mountains always are awe inspiring MY family always take a summer family camping trip and this year we decided to venture into the White Mountain National Forest in New Hampshire. We stayed in the Crawford Notch area and the views were nothing short of amazing, we were able to visit waterfalls, mountains, gorges and swim in the Saco river. I have never been so high up at night so the view of the star blew me away the clarity was unlike anything I have every seen. My kids found out plenty about the local wild life, we had many visits from chipmunks, squirrels and mice. We also learned that when you get caught in a severe rain storm in the mountains you had better find cover in a hurry. Next year we are ... read more

We’ve been in Boston for 3 months now and after exploring a lot of places near Boston and Rhode Island, we were itching to head further north. The Labor Day weekend was just the opportunity we were waiting for. So we decided to drive up to the White Mountains Region in New Hampshire. Its a little over 2 hrs away from Boston, and for a first-timer we highly recommend spending at least 2 days ( we still have a lot of places to see in the region which we’ve chalked up for next time) From Boston, you basically get on to I-93 and keep going straight for 135 miles (or 217 km). It could have been an incredibly monotonous journey save for the fact that New Hampshire really is a lush green and beautiful state. Franconia ... read more
