Note the ‘que’ in parque. You might think it exudes elegance. Up and out of Branson at 8:30 Saturday morning. We had a 270 or so mile trip to St. Louis, one of our longest days, over roads we were not sure were not flooded (sorry, something about double negatives there.) I find the MODot web site very poor, and the app that you must download to use the website on your iPhone is even worse. Very frustrating. Google maps wasn’t much better for showing us closed roads. Son, Tim, suggested WAZE and the problem with that, if there are no cars driving on the road there is no data for that road and the app doesn’t show the roads closed. We drove by the seat of our pants. The condition of the US and Interstate ... read more

Weather watching has become a way of life on our Quest trip. That storm in Little Rock and the resulting floods up and down the Mississippi have made us very aware of rising water. ARDot and MODot iphone apps have become my new best friends. Another weather system was approaching quickly and we had to make it to Branson for our next reservation before it hit. The Branson campground told us we could come in the one day early we needed. Up early, I was very anxious to get on the road knowing what was waiting ahead. Again, on US 65, a really nice road in most parts, but it has some crazy turns and hills. We crossed the Buffalo River and saw the sign to the campground we were scheduled to stay at there and ... read more

We have another incredible cruise vacation planned this year and we want to invite you to join us (at least in spirit) by reading a blog that we will publish. We briefly visited South America back in 2012 with a one-day visit in Columbia, but on this year’s trip we will explore much more of this continent and then some islands of the Caribbean which we haven’t seen previously. This will be our longest vacation in terms of “cruise days”. We will enjoy 33 days by sailing from Valparaiso Chile, cruise around Cape Horn at the southern tip of South America, on to Buenos Aires and Rio de Janeiro and many other places, and finally back to Florida through the Caribbean. Before the cruise we will also spend a couple of days exploring Santiago Chile. For ... read more

Geo: 37.209, -93.2916We are home. We are both sick. I was getting a cold and sore throat the last day - burning up in the hotel room with the windows cracked while Kamie was freezing. I got worse once we got home but now, I'm just coughing and trying to breathe. Yesterday, Kamie was burning-up and sick. He said his whole body ached, including his balls. I'm glad he felt the need to share. We had a good vacation. I've always wanted to see London so this was a dream come true destination for me - the Queen's residence was jaw-dropping, Harrod's was very much what I imagined it to be (loved it and would have spent all day there if Kamie wasn't with me), the British food was heavy and wonderful for the cold days, and ... read more

Geo: 38.6276, -90.199Not too much happened today.... we spent a lot of time telling Simon goodbye....the cat could care less we were leaving and so we drove to St. Louis, got to our hotel in time to walk next door and grab sandwiches from Denny's to go....watched the Cubs win the World Series! Actually, Kamie watched until it was tied at 6-6 and then he gave up on them and started snoring. I barely made it but the minute they won (almost midnight), I hit the remote and was out immediately.....our alarm was set for 3:30am for an early flight out of St. Louis.... read more

Geo: 37.209, -93.2916Summer for us was the longest 127 days you can imagine....because that's how long it took for our log home to sell. 127 days of checking on an empty house, paying two utility bills and two mortgages, and not knowing if our home would sell in 127 days or 1,027 days. We were prepared financially to be patient. We were not prepared mentally. No vacation, buyers asking strange questions, the house being empty was freaky, etc. We said our prayers daily from April through Labor Day ~ when our house was under contract, finally. We are leaving for St Louis tomorrow and I'm outta my mind excited tonight!! Yay!!! I've been working extra all year building-up my time and Kamie always has plenty of extra time so this is not just a journey to ... read more

My first show in Branson was The Dublin Tenors and Celtic Ladies. It was a great concert with both groups performing on their own and then together. The Dublin Tenors entertained everyone with some great step dancing. I went to see the Oak Ridge Boys in a really impressive venue called The Mansion. I had seen them probably over 30 years ago and they still put on an incredible show. Joe Bonsall still has the energy and moves from years ago. William Golden still has his signature long beard and hair and can still bring a tear to your eye when he sings a favorite Gospel song. Richard Sterban still impresses with his bass solo in Elvira and Duane Allen still does amazing as the lead vocal of the group. A group of senior citizens that ... read more

The drive from Frank Russell Campground on Mark Twain Lake near Monroe City MO to Thibaut Point Campground on Harry S. Truman Lake near Warsaw MO took a little over three hours and was uneventful. Mark Twain Lake and Harry S. Truman Lake – how much more Missouri can a fella get than that? Both are U.S. Army Corps of Engineers facilities, and both are fantastic “get away from it all” locations. I spent all day Friday, October 14, 2016 with my younger cousin who lives in nearby Osceola MO but whom I haven’t seen (beyond a couple of brief encounters at funerals, etc.) since I entered the Marine Corps in 1967. Fred is like many cousins – our age difference was too great to bond us as children and next thing you know everyone is ... read more
