Greetings from Maine! Sorry that I haven't blogged in a few days! We've either been too busy or haven't had internet access. I have a lot to share, though and some great pictures as well! On Tuesday, we drove into Maine to see a cloud of mist and haze. We kept telling the girls that it was beautiful, but it was hard for them to believe us because they couldn't see much of the harbor. That night, we pulled into Acadia National Park and camped at Blackwoods Campground. Needless to say, it was raining and Tony and I were completely over all of the "wetness"! Wednesday morning, we drove to a hiking trail called Bubble Rock. Maddie and Tony had heard about it the night before at a park ranger geology talk. The rock was left ... read more

Day 4 - Arcadia National Park - Maine It was such a rainy day today but we ventured out to tour the Acadia National Park. At the visitors center we purchased a CD driving tour. It was a good investment as it also includes photos of the places we were to see. The CD was very helpful. We traveled all around Mt. Desert Island and Acadia. We also saw the Bass Harbor Lighthouse which is located on the southern most tip of the island. We pretty much covered the whole 108 square miles of Mt. Desert Island. Before going back to our hotel we stopped at the Atlantic Brewery and had a sampling of their microbrews. We purchased a few of them to try out with Aunt Carol when we meet with her in a couple ... read more

Sunday - June 21, 2009 We had a leisurely breakfast at the Gosnold Arms looking over the bay. The blueberry pancakes were so good. Then we headed South to Pemoquid Point to see the lighthouse. The lighthouse was closed but the view was nice and we took some pictures by the water and surrounding area. After leaving there we stopped at Fort William Henry in Pemaquid. Next we went to the Breakwater Lighthouse in Rockland. This lighthouse is situated way out into the water where you have to walk along a breakfront to get to it. The breakfront is made up of huge flat rocks which lead to the lighthouse. We didn’t get to go out to it because the waves were starting to crash up and we didn’t want to get wet. It seemed pretty ... read more

TRAVELOGUE Thursday May 14, 2009 Bar Harbor, Maine Hello again everyone ~ We sailed into Bar Harbor, Maine around 8:00 a.m. It was a hazy day in Bar Harbor, no fog or clouds, just hazy. As we glided along the channel into Bar Harbor we noticed “our” Ghost Ship - The Margaret Todd - the four masted sailing ship that I took a picture of through the fog at sunset two years ago. She was anchored out in the harbor and because it is so early in the season, that is exactly where she stayed. After breakfast, we took the tender ashore and hopped on our tour bus. Today we were touring Acadia National Park, Cadillac Mountain, Thunder Hole, a mansion at the College of the Atlantic and the Oceanarium (to learn all about lobsters). As ... read more

So last week was our second week in our Canada/New England run. We spent Monday in Halifax - fighting fires. Day 2 we ported in Bar Harbour, where a bunch of us got off and went for lunch. Lisa’s boyfriend Josh (firefighter on the ship) wanted lobster, and we all laughed when our waitress insisted on schooling Josh in proper-lobster eating. I ordered lobster tail. So fresh and delicious! Day 3 we ported in St. John, New Brunswick and our only purpose was to get Humberto a birthday present. After running into Humberto that morning at boat drill, he decided that he would come shopping with us. So, we lied and said the hoodie Canada sweater was for my Dad for his birthday (which is in fact approaching! Happy Birthday Dad!) and even had Humberto try ... read more

In the very North-East corner of the United States is Bar Harbor, Maine. Bar Harbor is a quaint and picturesque town on Mount Desert Island in the Acadia National Park. Precipice Trail head, while short in distance at 1.3 kms it rises about 350 metres along the eastern face of Mount Champlain with many rungs and ladders along the way. it is definitely not for those scared of heights. Many sections of the trail are very narrow and a slip would be the end of you. This also provided a great challenge and some magnificent views of Frenchman Bay.... read more

This week has been our first week of our new itinerary, so we’ve been getting used to the new schedule. It was also a SUPER easy week work-wise, as we had 5 youth onboard - bit of a difference from last week’s 60! We each worked less hours in Kids Korner, but also performed extra duties as cruise staff (hosting karaoke, helping with crowd control during immigration, swiping passenger cards as they exit ship, etc.) I’ve had lots of extra time on my hands so I’ve been doing lots of knitting, as well as watching the first season of “Heroes” that I borrowed from the crew bar. (GREAT show for anyone who watches it!) Steph, Nicole, and I have been in Basic Safety training all week, so every day we had a couple hours of training. ... read more

We made a quick stop at the garden located on scenic loop, said hi to the frogs, and then headed over to Beehive trail. To get to the trailhead we had to go to Sand Beach and walk to the other side of the beach. There were a lot more people than the first day we came but the fog condition was slightly the same. Beehive trail is considered difficult trail because of the steepness and cliff you have to climb on. We walked passed the entrance to the trail so we had to walk back a bit. From the point approaching the trailhead, there was a group of hikers chitchatting and pointing up the mountains to hikers who were climbing up on the cliff. They were literally on the cliff. It didn't take long from the ... read more

It's hiking day on Acadia Mountain Trail. The beginning of the trail was largely covered with trees so it was shady but not cool. It was pretty hot today. Even though the initial part of the trail was a gradual ascent, the heat was too unbearable that we had to make a few stops to catch our breath. And during that time, I discovered that we should get a hell out of the shade as soon as possible. The biggest mosquito I had ever seen landed on my arm attempting to get some lunch from me. I quickly smashed it, and then more came so we at that point hurried up the mountain to get away from all these blood sucking creatures. It was definitely hot and humid and I kept thinking how far were we ... read more
