Day 2 – mileage 271 - Ashland – Louisville Kentucky We started the day early and the weather was good after the evening thunderstorms that went on forever. We loved the countryside. It consisted of green rolling hills, blue sky, and no traffic. It was truly peaceful. Our first stop was Lexington Kentucky. As we drove into town, we saw the many stately old homes. We stopped at the Mary Todd Lincoln house. As we were making pictures, we met a family with a 7-year-old daughter. Her goal was to visit all the president’s wife’s houses. She had a pinwheel of pictures and information for all the spouses. Our next stop was the Dixie Cup water tower. On the way we were on Hwy 421. It seems so weird to be on a highway many states ... read more

We made our drive northward toward Louisville. Andrew has a cousin who lives in Louisville, and we were hoping to make her Christening tomorrow. The weather was intense for the drive. At one point, rain started coming down so hard that visibility was severely impaired. It was a situation where we had to slow way down to see but were afraid of getting rear ended by someone else who didn't slow down. We pulled over as soon as we could to let the worst of the storm pass, but it was an anxious few minutes there. On our drive, we stopped at Mammoth Caves. I had the historic tour reserved for us and Paul and Colleen. Unfortunately, due to needing to be in certain towns for a Super Charger for the Tesla, they couldn't end up ... read more

So how do 4 strong, opiniated women agree on the where/when/what/how for this amazing trip?? Actually it's easier than you would think. Heather usually takes lead and has ideas on where to cruise. Kelly travelled in Europe last years, so we were able to pick her brain on the logistics of the travel. Kelly also requested it be mid-June to insure her kids are out of school before we leave. Sister #2 started researching for tours/excursions. Once it was decided we would go to Rome 4 days before our cruise, I begged to get to go to Paris for a few days first. It worked!!! We actually got an amazing deal on our cruise (booked over a year ago). For the first time I got to upgrade from an 'inside' cabin to an 'oceanview' cabin. And ... read more

We had a quiet night at the Crackerbarrel lot, that is except for the delivery truck that showed up to unload at 4AM. No one says that "Free Camping" comes without price. Back on the road, we continued down I79 to Charleston WV, where we picked up I64 west to Lexington, then over to Elizabethtown, then finally down to Bowling Green. There we landed for a visit with Lea Ann, one of Cathy's old buddies from her childhood. They were both vagabond "Campbells Soup Kids" traveling around the country, living for a while near whatever Campbells plant their Dads were assigned to. LeeAnn and her husband have a beautiful old home in suburban Bowling Green filled with fantastic art and artifacts from all over. They also have horses and chickens, and the gals collected a dozen ... read more

After a great 48 mile ride yesterday, I arrived at Bob and Barbara Carper’s home,( the parents of Craig Carper). Ever since I arrived, I have been treated to a five star experience at their spectacular home on 89 acres in Eastern Kentucky. There are two ponds on the property, one with its own cabin; just a small project Bob threw together in his spare time. Their home sits above the larger pond, and the view from the home looks across the pond for miles. It’s wonderfully relaxing to just sit and gaze out the sun room at the countless birds, and other sights. Ahhh! It’s going to be hard to leave. Yesterday, after being treated to a wonderful BBQ dinner at their favorite restaurant, I was given the insiders tour of Owensboro. This city sits ... read more
