On July 23, 2014, I walked out of the Federal Reserve Bank in Chicago with a bag of money. The Federal Reserve doesn't make loans or take deposits from individuals, but they gave me money anyhow. I smiled at the guard as I walked out; stay with me and I’ll tell you how you can do the same thing. The Federal Reserve is responsible for the monetary system of the United States. They design and print our money, they set interest rates, they regulate financial institutions, and they function as a bank for the nation’s banks. The integrity of the country’s financial system depends on the Federal Reserve System. There are twelve branches of the Federal Reserve around the US. One of those branches is in Chicago, and just off the lobby is the Money Museum. ... read more

In my first year as cabin crew I think I ventured to Chicago almost every month. One month I actually went four times in a row. Was just such a nice trip. I normally prefer heading east to the likes of japan and Singapore but when it comes to America there is just something about Chicago. Such a great city. So I was so excited to be heading back on a trip after almost two years having not been there. We only get about 24hours there, so it is just a nightstop. One of my good friends from work, James, was on it and I knew couple other people which was good. We got to hotel about 8pm. We stay right on Michigan Avenue which is just so amazing and right in the heart of it ... read more

My travels may have come to an end a week ago, but my blog is just wrapping up now. Between recovering from jetlag, spending my only week at home with my family, and moving my life down to Chicago to start work tomorrow, the blog just got a bit delayed. My apologies to my avid readers, but pretend that the quality of this post is that much greater because I’ve had a week to distill my experiences (see, I can even convince myself). Since posting last, I closed out my trip by visiting Istanbul, the Greek island of Chios, and Athens. For those who are geographically inclined, my route for the latter half of my trip was basically a clockwise semicircle from the UK to Athens. The plane tickets for this leg weren’t the cheapest, but ... read more

FINAL PAGE Friday 4th July HAPPY 4TH JULY EVERYONE :) a public holiday here of course and 150,000 people including ourselves travel to the Navy Pier in Chicago. We take the shuttle from our hotel and then catch the train, not entirely sure where to get off we alight a couple of stops too early but eventually find a trolley bus going straight to the Navy Pier. We meet up with my brother Andrew and meet his girlfriend Cheryl for the first time, they both live in Indiana and have come in on the train for the weekend. We all stroll along the 3,300 foot pier which is at the edge of Lake Michigan and on to Millenium Park. The architecture is impressive, including the Trump Tower and the gardens are spectacular, there are lots of ... read more

I wasn't going to write another blog but this traveling home business is worthy of something. We began at 430 in the morning in Cork. Were kindly driven to the airport for our 635am flight. Thankfully took off on time. We took the Stansted Express to the middle of London & the underground to Heathrow. We had to 'mind the gap' a few times as we changed lines & trains. The guy at the Stansted ticket desk wasn't kidding. Took ~2hrs total.our flight to Chicago was delayed because the plane didn't arrive on time. The flight itself was mostly uneventful. I don't know how I got lucky enough to be right smack dab in the middle of the 5 person row. Wasn't as bad as I thought as I could choose which side I wanted food/drinks ... read more

Geo: 41.8861, -87.6364Today, we drove from Madison, WI to Chicago and arrived in the city around 9:30 am. I had found, through a search on the internet, that you could park RVs in McCormick Place. McCormick Place is a convention center just off the interstate in downtown. They have a 24 hour manned parking lot for trucks, buses, and RVs....and only $30/night. And, it is only 3 miles from Jeff and Malia's apartment.Jeff picked us up, took us on a drive around the city, and then we went back to their apartment. They live in a beautiful high rise building that borders the Chicago River canal and Lake Michigan. The apartment is awesome, and it is surrounded by incredible sites, attractions, and restaurants/bars.Jeff and Malia took us on a walking tour of the city, we had ... read more

Well it’s been one week of training here in Chicago. For those of you unfamiliar with the happenings, the program I am in is called GESI. Global Engagement something something. It is a program based at Northwestern University that revolves around connecting students to real communities in the world that are being assisted by NGOs. We work for those NGOs and in turn learn about working in development. My program has me in Chicago this week, then I am in India for eight weeks, then I return home for three days to report on my findings (or sneak out and steal a car to drive back to my girlfriend). So I actually have a lot to cover on this blog. This will be my last report in America! But I feel this is a good time ... read more

Started out by trying to find my cat for a half hour so I could get him situated before I left. Ran a couple errands, picked up Katie, quick stop to see Grandpa and we were on our way! Chicago's flights were grounded due to weather & ended up getting delayed. Finally got out to O'Hare. Then we had to wait for a gate to open & by the time we got to our next gate, we were boarding! Much nicer sitting in a large plane. We arrive in London early tomorrow & have a handful of hours to switch airports, then onto Madrid! I am very proud to say I have a backpack and small tote bag for two weeks. Room to shop! Looking forward to reading my airport book-Red Velvet Cupcake Murder, watching the ... read more
