Geo: 41.8861, -87.6364Dear friends and family,Just a quick entry from the United Club at O'Hare, enjoying our free snacky things awaiting a 6:15 pm (Central) flight to Paree. Ou est le loo? Yes, I'm ready. We drove to Chicago straight after church yesterday, and arrived at the Willer household just before 6pm. Roger and Carole have kindly allowed us to "park" our car with them for the 5 week duration of our trip, and are a wonderful Bed and Breakfast facility! Our visit with them was most pleasant, but we can't believe it's been that many years since they left NE Ohio! We visited them once after that but 23 years?! Love the fascinating variety of houses in their mature neighborhood. Thank you, Carole & Roger. We fly tonight on a Boeing 777, and for those ... read more

The 44th and the 45th President of the United States in the same blog After we came home from our vacation in the US last summer life has been hectic and we haven't had time to write much on the blog. But here it comes, much belated, the fourth and last entry from the trip. Here we will tell you what we did the last two days of the trip when we were in Chicago. The 44th President of the United States, Barack Obama, studied and worked his way to the power in Chicago. When we took a walk in his old neighbourhood we visited a few Obama related sites. • We saw the house the Obama family lived in before they made the White House in Washington DC their home. Well, we couldn't see much ... read more

DAY 6 - Saturday, July 2, 2016 Eau Claire, Wisconsin to Chicago, IL to Fair Oaks, IN I had an early start (AGAIN) and drove us to Dunkin Donuts. Then on to Janesville, WI. Where we got some Wisconsin cheeses. This is a good time to share a funny phenomenon. Somehow I’ve been driving through the bulk of the states. Then we switch drivers, Jaedon and now Geoff. Then they manage to drive us across the state-line into the new state - wuuu-hoooo!!! Easy for them :) I was happy to give Geoff the helm today because we drove through Chicago. WOW! We were going to stop at the “Bean” at one of the parks but the Taste of Chicago was going on and traffic was crazy plus no parking for a rig our size. We ... read more

Jan and her friend, Jackie have been friends since their college days many years ago at SIU. They started a tradition of making an annual "road trip" back then. Their road trips evolved into trips all over America together. I guess this could be considered another of their road trips and for the first time, I get to go along. When I retired, I promised Jan that since she has always been so good about all of the snowmobiling I do in the winter and even goes with me on some of the trips, that I would take her somewhere warm and beautiful to get away from the Chicago winter. So I guess this is a combination trip. This morning, we are heading to O'Hare Airport to depart for Maui, Hawaii. We've all been there before ... read more

Geo: 41.8861, -87.6364Today was a super-fun-family-filled day in Chicago! So fun, in fact, that I am writing this entry almost two months later (eeeks). I remember we had breakfast at a great little place by our hotel, went to the Chicago Planetarium, then the Shedd Aquarium (sooo fun and sooo big), saw a 5D SpongeBob movie (hubby and Finn LOVED it!), took an Uber ride to Giordano's, ate wayyyy too much excellent Giordano's food (again), and then waddled back to the hotel room. It was very cold and dark and so I semi-slept, tried to take a nap. We got back up at around 9pm and then later we walked to Navy Pier and saw an amazing New Year's Fireworks display that lasted... get this....17 or 18 FULL MINUTES!! Awesome Blossom!! It was sooo much fun ... read more

Geo: 41.8861, -87.6364Today was such a fun day! We woke-up extra early, showered, and we easily caught the 6:30am hotel airport shuttle. KC airport aka MCI is tiny. I was surprised. Security only had one slow-moving line. We were checked-in and had an hour so I got some Starbucks and they had some Starbucks Christmas ornaments that made my entire morning happy! Little glass cups that are Christmas ornaments. I. LUV. The barista at the counter was extra friendly, too.As I sat admiring my new purchase, it was time to board the plane. So, we got on the plane with lots of crying babies and families and we were all buckled-in when they announced that it was snowing in Chicago so all incoming flights were grounded. They announced the flight was not cancelled but delayed about ... read more

Our final stop in the U.S. was Chicago… and what a way to say goodbye! It wasn’t love at first sight; as we stepped off the night bus from hell with some interesting individuals, we were a little apprehensive… This was made worse when we started chatting to Steven in Starbucks, who told us some terrifying figures about gun crime in Chicago. He also gave us some great tips and discussed the NHS and the demise of education with us before we headed off to find our hostel to dump the bags. As it was, Wicker Park was a really lovely area, complete with Aldi and Stan’s Donuts, both of which we visited almost every day! Anyway, it was now only 8am and we had time to kill until we could actually get into our room ... read more

Literally Chicago is one of the best cities I've been to. I cannot say that's the best USA city I've been to but I really love Chicago a lot because it's comparable to New York City. I seriously don't like New York just because it's too crowded (though I did love the attractions) and it's just that I just don't think like it's so relaxed. It's almost like New York City you can go there all year long. However, in Chicago, you cannot beat the weather. Chicago is known as the "Windy City," which means that it's like the coldest cities in America. It's seriously like the opposite of hottest good city like Austin and San Antonio, Texas. Back into discussion about Chicago. Chicago is very famous almost like New York but beats the city in ... read more

The best road trips are spontaneous. Well, as spontaneous as they can be. You still need to pack clothes, food and supplies, and travel goods, especially if you plan to camp out, but I digress. What better trip to take suddenly than a cruise on the good ol’ American highway, Route 66? A route well known for its eccentric attractions like the World’s Biggest Bottle of Ketchup, the Blue Whale of Catoosa, and plenty of outrageous museums. Personally, I was rooting for a trip down the Oregon Trail, because I’ve always wanted to visit Yellowstone National Park. Did you know there are more than 10,000 hot springs and geysers in the park, including the famous Old Faithful? But alas, my friends and I settled for the age-old trip down Route 66, to get our kicks. We ... read more
