We are now on the Big Island of Hawaii (called Hawaii). We have been driving around a lot looking at scenery. Lots of waterfalls. I don't have time to write much but here are a few pictures. Matt... read more

Hi everyone, We are settling in again at The Breakers in Waikiki. It is like going back 50 years but surrounded by all the amenities of mdern life - great restaurants, bookstores, theatres, etc. This is my first attempt at travel blogging so I hope to attach some photos. Just a couple as I'm working dial-up from our hotel room - as I said like going back in time at The Breakers! I asked the younger staff about a future broadband wireless connection and they only laughed. I guess what can I expect from the "hotel" housing the official Japanese tea ceremony center for all of Hawaii.... read more

We arrived in Hawaii on Friday moring at 1.00am after a 30 hour journey. On Friday we took a look around Waikiki. Found the beach and shops and rested. On Saturday we went to Pearl Harbor to the Arizona memorial. Also went to the submarine museum and the Missouri Battleship. On Sunday we went on a city bus around most of the island. We stopped at a Pinapple plantation and went around a garden there. Also there was the largest hedge-maze in the world - Heather likes those things so we went through it. We also stopped at a couple of beaches on the North Shore - supposed to be big surfing places with huges waves, but it was calm when we were there. The North of the island is much greener, with mountains behind the ... read more

Wednesday I left for Hawaii for a week.. The trip there was crazy!! I caught a bus to Seattle and then had a look around the city, then caught a flight to San Francisco and a flight to Honolulu... I took friggin forever!!! I was not all that impressed with Seattle.. maybe because I was there all by myself lugging around heaps of luggage. I felt a little nervous as there were heaps of scary people (I would not like to be walking around by myself at night thats for sure!). There was also a huge anti George Bush rally on so millions of people in the streets.. Anyway when i finally arrived in Honolulu it was so hot... YAY!! I bused to Waikiki to meet Katrina at the hostel we were staying at. By this ... read more

Hi there! I know I didn't write you for a long time, but believe it or not, there was a good reason behind it. I really had to study for my midterms, which I finished yesterday. In the last time I wasn't doing so many things. I was staying a lot in my appartment, which wasn't bad at all. It's really comfortable and we have sometimes action in front of the building. Did you know that Hawaii has an Octoberfest, too?! But to be honest with you... it sucks! Some weeks ago we had a nice street parade and almost every friday there is a big firework going on. So it's not bad at all to stay at home. But I have to admit that I'm really interested in checking out the other islands of hawaii. ... read more

We were not looking forward to the journey to LA as it looked like we would have to sit in Maui airport for 6 hours and then in Honolulu airport for another 5. However, upon checking-in in Maui we were offered a free change to an early flight to Honolulu and then in Honolulu we found that we could check in our bags at lunchtime for that evening's LA flight and leave the airport... With our free half day we hopped on a bus bound for Waikiki. The journey took about an hour but went through chinatown and the historic parts of Honolulu so it was worth the 2 dollar fare! Waikiki was very busy due to simultaneously hosting the World Triathlon Championships and a Surfing competion. We revisited our old honeymoon haunts (they're renovating the ... read more

We landed in Honolulu (on the island of Oahu) on time and after a remarkably comfortable night flight. As we had already been to Oahu (on honeymoon almost 4 years to the day) we had decided to spend our week on Maui instead. We had already booked accomodation but had been unable to buy domestic air tickets online without a US credit card. Therefore, we walked over to the domestic air terminal in search of passage. After checking both Hawaiian Air and Aloha Air but found that they both wanted the same amount - so we went with Aloha because they sounded more fun and seats on the next plane. The flight to Maui was perhaps the shortest in history (about 20 mins) and we proceeded to our hostel ("Banana Bungalow" in Wailuku). We spent the ... read more
