well we're just waiting for our bus to take us to the airport so here's our story from the last few days. Friday: We decided to get out of this touristy city 'waikiki' and go north. We made our way on the public bus system and who was did i see but one of our clients from work (kingst). Julie remember John from hospice, old CEO of Northern Districts cricket. Crazy!! anyway, our biggest mission for the day was to see a turtle. On the way we found a great local cafe in Haleiwa that sold awesome food and have become very addicted to a 'rio bowl' which is fresh fruit, granola and sambazon (like a blueberry). YUMMY!! We then went to a beautiful beach and cooled off for a couple of hours. We have discovered ... read more

Hi everybody! This is already my second journal. My semester will start on September 6th so I have to use the time to write you some journals... Well finally I arrived on the beautiful Island named O'ahu on August 20th. This is where I'm going to 'study' for a whole semester. The first feeling when you get out of the plane is overwhelming. The temperature is fantastic. Not too hot, not too humid. Just perfect. The only thing that is kind of annoying is the tourism on this island. Many things seem to be artificial, but you get to used to this pretty fast. So I guess this is it for now. Just let me know if you like the journals or if I should change the style. It would be very helpful. Have a nice ... read more

We arrived in one of the oldest Air NZ planes but it got us there! no tv seats :( We got into a nice 20+ temperature in honolulu airport so it was a nice contrast, considering i was wearing my ice breaker top and socks!!... sweatie! Anyway, we woke to a lovely trash compctor at bout 6 in the morning and so we started our day. It was a lovely day, lots of sun and large americans! We deicided to walk up to diamond head point. we asked the locals and they said it was a 10 minute walk, or just 2 miles away. After a 1 hr walk we finally found it and then ... read more

More beaches We drove to north this time to see other beaches. We ate some good food at Mediterranean restaurant. The first beach we hit was Hapuna Beach. Its a very beautiful, full of really soft sandy like valvet. I absolutely loved it. Then we went to Spencer Beach. I bought Rahul a music instrument for his birthday, so we tried playing that on the beach. This was much more quieter and also had a camping place. If we knew, we probably would have camped there, right on the beach. On the way back, we also caught a really nice sunset. Last day - more snorkeling Today was Rahul's birthday and our last day on Hawaii. I could not believe the trip was getting over, it was such a perfect trip. We spent the morning packing ... read more

Today was day to drive to Volcano National park. The drive was nice, especially with our convertible. On the way we could already see lava from many years in layers. We wanted to camp there, so we thought we should first get a spot and then head into the park. It was a smart move given that we got really delayed at night. After setting camp, we went into the park and took the Crater rim drive. On the way we saw Lava tubes, devastation trail and numerous crater lookouts. Then we went on Chain of Craters drive which is again full of all craters. We also took a short Petroglyph trail which has some patroglyphs carved on the lava rocks. No one has been able to decipher those yet. On the way we saw some ... read more

Getting there We started for airport in the afternoon for flight to Kona at 2:55p.m. Flight was on time and totally full. Most of the people got off at Maui our first stop and a more popular holiday destination. We reached Kona airport by 7:00pm. The airport was a big surprise. We were expecting it to be small, but this was, well... lets say very different. First we got off the plane by a ladder, the old fashioned way. The airport was a set of huts, yes, thatch roof huts, no air-conditioning, no sophisticated machinery, a very primitive nice airport. From the airport we headed off to get the car. Getting the car took looong time, waiting outside in warm air, looking at other people arriving. Then when it was our turn, they upgraded us to ... read more

We have been blessed to have survived and enjoyed our marriage since 1987. In June 2005, we had an opportunity to have an anniversary in a tropical island. Oahu Hawaii. Excellent. I told my wife we better enjoy traveling while we can still walk. While we still have our health. Thank you Lord for giving us this fantastic adventure. Five days in Oahu. Not a long time but we did what we can. After getting our luggage, we proceeded to get our rental van. Got a map of the island. Proceeded to our hotel at Waikiki. No problem. The flight was okay from Colorado Springs. Stop over in Las Vegas. Then Hawaii. No lost luggage. Nice clean rental van. Got to the hotel around 8:00 pm. We can still feel the warm breeze. Awesome weather. ... read more

The other day in the other year my friend asked me where we should go away for a week in the summer. I said: "I dunno!" Then I phoned her in an hour and told her to pack up her stuff because we are going to Hawaii. I am from Europe and Hawaii seems such a dream for me so we got very excited!! We stayed in a hotel in Waikiki and we did the same things that people do in Hawaii. I am not going into details now! :) The photos were taken at the Polynesian Cultural Center in Oahu. Az egyik nap par evvel ezelott a baratnom megkerdezte, hogy hova menjunk iden nyaralni! Mondom neki: "Passz!" Aztan par ora mulva megis felhivtam es mondtam neki, asszony csomagolj, mert megyunk Hawaii-ra. Hawaii, nekunk europaiaknak hatalmas ... read more

31/05/05: Picture downhill skiing and then 1 hour later basking in the tropical Hawaiian sun. Many people don’t know this but Hawaii gives you the opportunity to do this. Coming from someone that hasn’t even seen snow before, let alone been skiing, I thought that it was best not to indulge in this escapade. Besides, I think snowfall in summer is minimal on the mountain summits. You can, however, experience natures power on the opposite temperature spectrum and stand next to a river of 1150 deg C molten lava. This can be done all year round but the unusual, although very obvious (if you think about it) characteristic of active volcanoes is that the landscape is always changing. New land is added/destroyed each day which makes it very difficult for tour guides to predict the daily ... read more
